  • Wonderful Family Vacation in Acadia

"We had a wonderful week at BassTerre. We knew that Acadia would be spectacular, but was so thrilled to see that BassTerre was equally terrific. The property is just as described, but the view and private setting is even more impressive than shown. We really appreciated the owners many recommendations, and the cottage had absolutely everything we needed to make us feel at home. Our kids explored the shoreline each day, going on countless “buoy hunts” and we loved the huge front lawn for family games of badminton and soccer.(as well as building evening campfires on the beach!) Great location to get to the park and most of our days were spent hiking and exploring Acadia. If you are trying to avoid the bustle of Bar Harbor but want to be close enough to get there for dinner or day trips (about 30 minutes), you can't do better. Southwest Harbor is less than 10 minutes away with many lovely shops and restaurants and Bass Harbor is only 5 minutes away (Island Cruises, out of Bass Harbor, is a must!) The views from the cottage and deck were absolutely breathtaking, lobster boats were fun to watch and hear, an eagle flying overhead, deer in the early morning, and being able to step out to our private beach was priceless. Lobster was available just about everywhere, but we really enjoyed ordering it fresh from the Goose Cove lobstermen and enjoying it on our deck while watching the sunset. So beautiful, so Maine, so thankful for it all. Will definitely return to BassTerre for more family memories!"

  • Refreshing week on the Maine Coast

"Three well-maintained, cozy, charming cottages at the end of a quiet dirt road offer a spectacular view over Frenchman's Bay, access to the beach, and a great jumping-off point for day-trips to Acadia National Park or around Mount Desert Isle. After adventures, this is a great place to return to for an evening on the deck or at the fire pit. We grilled, cooked lobster in the well-provided kitchen, took long walks along the shore, and enjoyed the autumnal smell of the piney woods. Local sites and restaurants were within easy striking distance. Pet-friendly. Owners are very responsive and friendly. We will be back next year!"

  • Perfect Place for an Acadia National Park Getaway

"Could not have asked for a better place to stay near Acadia to celebrate a 40th birthday. The house was clean, comfortable, and well equipped (even came stocked with park maps and firewood!) and perfectly located, with easy access to Acadia National Park. The weather was on the cooler side during the visit, but the space heaters did the trick and the weather certainly made time around the fireplace that much more enjoyable. We didn't get to spend much time out on the porches due to the weather, but imagine they would be lovely in the warmer weather. The communal areas were spacious, yet felt cozy - perfect for hanging out and relaxing. The bedrooms were very comfortable, and the view from the master bedroom was breathtaking. Would definitely recommend staying at the Hummingbird!"
