  • As comfortable as home

"Sow's Ear was an absolute delight for our family of 3. It only took one day of close attention to get our 5yo daughter to look and not touch all of the interesting decorations spread around the house. The kids room is adjacent to the stairs so wouldn't recommend for under 3's without bringing a portable gate, but otherwise great. The house is very new and super comfortable. With the windows closed it is super quiet. When open, you get a fantastic airflow. The natural light throughout is also great. Although on a neighborhood side street, it is easy walk into NE Harbor (5 min or less, faster on bike), which also has a new co-working space if you need that sort of thing during your stay. The location is very convenient to everything on the island with easy bus access if you don't want to drive. The kitchen is fully setup for whatever you need and the furniture is newer and comfortable. the gardens are truly remarkable and very relaxing. Having access to the garage for storing bikes was great, so I didn't have to keep them tethered to the car the entire week. Also, don't miss a visit to the Naturalist's Notebook store in NEH. Also learned that the street you come into ties into scenic Sargent's Drive so it makes the drive home and in the morning all that much more appealing when going to other parts of the island."

  • charming historic cottage

"We had a perfect week in Brooklin. The historic house is utterly charming. Brooklin is pretty remote, and the place has no internet, and no TV. For us, though, all those things were a plus. We enjoyed the wonderful relaxed quiet of the house, its extensive library and game collection, the piano, the beach (a prime spot for hunting sea glass!) and, perhaps especially, the porch, where I spent many hours reading and drinking coffee. We explored Deer Isle, had pizza and pastries at Tinder Hearth, did some book shopping in Blue Hill, but mostly we read and skipped rocks and swam. A delightful week. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We very much hope to return!"

  • Perfect Get Away From It All

"I was looking for a quiet place to spend a week with my girls (12 and 15) that would be peaceful, fun, and close enough to Bar Harbor to visit but far enough to feel like we were getting away from it all. I really could not have found a more perfect place; John and Liz made us feel so welcomed it was like being in our own home, not a rental, right from the start. The house itself is really beautifully situated; the beach is right down a path out the back steps, the sun sparkles through the windows in the mornings, the stars sparkle at night and the waves, when it's windy, will put you to sleep. It's on a hushed country road with few cars; the quiet in the air is stunning, especially at night. We also fell in love with the dogs - especially Maddie, who we miss - it was like a fringe benefit! Everything we needed was there; bikes to ride and wood for the outdoor fire pit and even fresh eggs from the chickens. We stopped at Tradewinds in Blue Hill on the way for food - which I recommend - but the cottage has what you would need otherwise - towels and sheets and blankets and a kitchen stocked with the basics, pots and pans and utensils, washer/dryer, dishwasher, etc. Pretty much whatever you need is there, making it a lot easier to unpack and unwind. Liz and John are great hosts, the house is sweet and cozy, and it was as perfect a week as I could have imagined. If you are trying to avoid the bustle of Bar Harbor but want to be close enough to get there for dinner or day trips (about 45 minutes), you can't do better. Liz also recommended a boat trip in Bass Harbor (Island Cruises) which was an absolute must, a great way to spend an afternoon. Thanks Liz and John for helping us make lifelong memories, we hope to come back!"

  • Perfect Maine Cottage... really!

"My husband and I stayed at Sea Meadow and were very happy with everything! You are right on the water and the 180 degree views of the bay, lighthouse and Cadillac Mountain are incredible. The cottage was beautiful, clean and very well cared for. We had wonderful meals at a few of the local restaurants. It is very convenient to the Wooden Boat School and a great place to stay if you are thinking of taking courses there. We will definitely be back next year!"
