  • Great Cabin in Acadia

"This cabin is perfect for a week in Acadia!! It is centrally located, between Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Easy access to the carriage trails with very detailed walking directions. The efficiency kitchen arrangement suited us very well for preparing a light breakfast with coffee, packing a lunch and dining out for dinner (we did cook lobster outside on the deck on a foggy Thursday for lunch and it was so easy and delicious we did it all over again Friday night!!). The cabin has heaters that quickly take the chill off when turned on for just a few minutes in the morning. The fireplace would be lovely on a cool night but we stayed on a week that didn't get too cool. Hosts communicate readily and are very helpful if you have specific questions. Plenty of brochures and a journal from past visitors provide information on things to do. There are very detailed hiking books on Acadia hikes and carriage trails which we found extremely helpful. Hosts even provide a backpack, binoculars, and a small cooler for your use. The cabin is comfortable, with good lighting, and space to unpack clothes (although there is no formal closet, there is a bar with hangers). We used the loft for storing our suitcases since we didn't need the extra bed. There is a house nearby which had guests, but the privacy fence and the arrangement of the two buildings is situated nicely so the neighbors do not feel too close. Check in and check out is a breeze. Thank you Margaret for providing such a warm and well cared for place!! I hope we can return some day and hike a few more trails. 1 hour ago"

  • Wonderful home in Southwest Harbor, Acadia

"We (2 couples) loved this spacious, comfortable home in Southwest Harbor and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Southwest Harbor is on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island and was the perfect base for our five day stay. The house is exactly as pictured, with everything you need, including some very thoughtful extras (loved the muffins! the wine! the Halloween candy! the fruit!) The kitchen is outfitted remarkably well for a rental, the beds are very comfortable, each of the three bedrooms has its own bath, and there is even Netflix available. The owners are on site but not intrusive in the least (in fact, we never even saw them in 5 days) and were very responsive and pleasant to deal with by email, phone, text. Their suggestions for places to eat and things to do are spot on. We have stayed in SWH before and can attest to the excellent food at The Rogue Cafe, Red Sky, and Thurston's. Really, a lovely place. Thanks, Sarah and Paul, for sharing your home."

  • Cozy, Convenient Perfect for our family of 4

"Each year we select a different destination on our bucket list. This year it was Acadia. We have been using VRBO to rent homes at our various destination for at least 15 years now. This year was no different. We diligently looked at each property, compared amenities, price, distance to Acadia and finally decided on Blackwood's Cottage and we were so happy with our selection! The home is cozy, warm and comfortable. It's eclectic decorations and refurbished antiques give it just the right charm. Our family loved happy hour on the large deck and nightly smore's around the bonfire. Otter Creek is a charming little village and is just 3 minutes to one of the entrances to Acadia and less than 10 minutes to downtown Bar Harbor. We honestly loved not being in the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. We went in to town to shop, people watch or enjoy a meal at a restaurant but were so happy to come home to the quiet side to enjoy our relaxing evenings. This home sits right on Rt. 3 which to us was perfect. We could walk right down the road to do the South trail hike to the top of Cadillac mountain and jump right on the road in our car if we wanted to explore the various small harbor towns that make up Mount Desert Island. This home was clean, comfortable and loaded with extras like linens, towels, paper products and detergents that made our stay that much nicer. Thank you Peggy for sharing your home with us."

  • What a View !!!

"My husband and I stayed at Sea Meadow the second week of Sept. What a wonderful time of year to visit the the Maine coast....warm days and cooler nights. It was so peaceful and relaxing sitting on the deck enjoying the view or walking the shoreline at low tide. We explored the surrounding area and ate fantastic seafood. The cottage was perfect...very clean...and supplied with all the comforts of home. We hope to return next year."
