  • Spacious, comfortable home for a family vacation

"Island Watch is a spacious home that is both comfortable and casual -- excellent venue for our family of 8 adults and two small children. There is a great view from the large deck with perimeter benches and a table with 6 chairs. A pretty glassed-in porch connects the deck to the house. The large great room has a dining table and chairs for 10 at one end, seating with a beautiful, word-burning stone fireplace in the middle, and a bar and stools at other end. The lower level has a sitting room and full kitchen; bedroom; laundry and bath. There are 6 bedrooms and 5 baths on main and second floors. The kitchen very well stocked – dishes and tableware for at least 16. There is virtually every utensil and form of cookware including lobster cooker and large propane grill. There is also a large yard and lovely plantings/gardens. Island Watch is a 5-minute drive into center of SW Harbor; or walk down the back path -- though the walk is a bit strenuous with tricky footing in places along the way. It is an easy drive to everything on the island and then nice to be away from the crush of people when you are "at home." The owners were very accommodating throughout the entire process and during our stay and were immediately responsive to emails in advance of the trip. The home belonged to Margery's mother. They stopped by to check in and provide advice about the area all of which was very helpful. They responded quickly to questions and provided child equipment upon request. The property is pet friendly. We would definitely return. We had a 5-star vacation here, and we would have given Island Watch a 5-star review except for three things -- great room furniture is not especially comfortable (this was not an issue for us because the weather was nice so we spent a lot of time on the deck, but during a rainy week, this would have been disappointing), though there are dozens of kitchen utensils and pans, they are not very well organized so it took a bit of effort to appreciate what was there, the lower level is a bit damp (if we had used this space, it would have needed a dehumidifier), and finally, the house could have been cleaner upon arrival. Let me emphasize that none of this would stop us from returning or recommending the property. It was an excellent choice and we enjoyed it fully. We offer thanks to the Bucks for their hospitality."

  • Perfect balance of rustic and convenient in wonderful setting

"The space was well designed to allow cross currents of cooling air, and to bring the family together while offering individual privacy. We loved the books and pictures and specimens collected, which reminded us of our old camp; also loved the hot showers and ample counter space and natural light. Lofty ceilings and mellow wood walls added elegant rusticity. A passel of boys lost themselves on the beach, on the water, in the meadows. We collected the sunsets (different every night) like beautiful beach stones. Everyone wants to come again. Thank you!"

  • Excellent

"Having stayed in the area (at a hotel) before we pretty much knew the whereabouts. This time we decided to rent a house close to the beach for a few days. The location was close to the water and to all amenities offered at Deer Isle. The house is very well maintained. A minor plumbing issue was fixed immediately by the owners by arranging for a professional to come first thing in the morning. The house offers privacy, quiet environment, easy access to the beach and an overall great experience. We would recommend to anyone."

  • Absolute Heaven!

"Beautifully built cabin in a lovely location. Peaceful, cozy, all the comforts of home and an amazing view...and so much to do on the peninsula! Although it was April and many places weren't open yet, there was plenty of places to eat and shop. We'll be back - thanks to Linda and Michael for sharing this lovely place!"
