  • Relaxing Getaway

"My husband and I were looking for a relaxing private getaway this year and Heron Watch was perfect! The property was just amazing and we found it was not really necessary to leave once we got there. We enjoyed the private cove for swimming and kayaking. The yard was expansive and there was plenty of room to have yard games set up or just relax in the awesome Adirondack chairs that are provided. We spent our time exploring around the entire peninsula with our kayaks. Our daughter joined us later into our trip and it was really nice that the house came with two kayaks as well so our daughter was able to explore with us. At night the stars were just amazing however, the lightening bugs put on a pretty impressive show as well. The house is well cared for and very comfortable for a family of 4 or more. The views from every room in the front of the house are just amazing and change with the sun and tide throughout the day. We opened all of the windows and enjoyed the fresh air that flows throughout the house. Deer Isle is a great place to really get away and not be involved with traffic and tourist traps. We would recommend this property to families young and old. There is handicap access as well. By the way, there is a resident heron at Heron Watch. We saw her every day in the grassy area of the cove. We also had a beautiful little song bird that sat on the boat tie near the Adirondacks daily and sang us some lovely tunes as well as a deer that was seen on the property in the early evenings. Magical experience in a hidden gem on Deer Isle."

  • Fantastic spot!

"The pictures don't lie. The property is stunning and my boys (7 and 10) couldn't get enough of playing on the rocks, watching the crabs and other critters when the tide went in and out, and enjoying the open space on the cove. Cheryl was wonderful to deal with, had great suggestions for activities in the area, and was attentive to all our needs. The perfect host! We hiked out to Barred Island, found beautiful shells on Sand Beach, kayaked to Little Sheep, took a lobster boat cruise on the Isle au Haut mailboat, and went on a harbor tour with Old Quarry. Kids got to swim at the quarry pond on Green Island--a real treat. The house itself was very clean and comfortable, with tons of great reading material and amazing views of the cove. The fire pit was set up for us when we arrived and we made good use of it, roasting smores and enjoying the beautiful evenings. We loved exploring Stonington and Deer Isle and definitely hope to return! Thank you for your hospitality!"

  • Perfect balance of rustic and convenient in wonderful setting

"The space was well designed to allow cross currents of cooling air, and to bring the family together while offering individual privacy. We loved the books and pictures and specimens collected, which reminded us of our old camp; also loved the hot showers and ample counter space and natural light. Lofty ceilings and mellow wood walls added elegant rusticity. A passel of boys lost themselves on the beach, on the water, in the meadows. We collected the sunsets (different every night) like beautiful beach stones. Everyone wants to come again. Thank you!"

  • Lovely, comfortable stay in an ideal location!

"We had a terrific stay at Birdsong! The cabin is beautiful, comfortable and clean, and it was perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 kids (11 & 8) and a large dog. We visit MDI every summer and enjoy relaxing on the quiet side, but also spend a lot of time inside the park. We were looking for a more central location to minimize driving time and couldn't have imagined a more ideal spot! Very close to Long Pond and Somes Pond for kayaking and swimming. Another nearby bonus is Beech Hill Farm, where you can get fresh and delicious food to enjoy while winding down at the cabin. Lisa is friendly and responsive and has provided lots of useful information at the cabin. We highly recommend Birdsong and hope to be back!"
