  • A great return trip to Schoodic

"My husband and I have vacationed in this area of the Schoodic peninsula multiple times as this is our favorite place on earth! This is the 3rd home we have rented and agreed that the view and location was the best yet. Every morning was spent either on the deck or in the living room drinking coffee and watching the amazing sunrises and in the evenings , we savored the last lingering light of day while we anticipated when we would see the light at Petit Manan lighthouse first begin to flash. Not enough can be said about how relaxing and restoring this piece of heaven is. The home is open and light, clean and well supplied with all your needs. We prepared alot of our own meals just so that we didn't have to leave each day! Tom provided us with the most complete info that we have ever received in advance to prepare us for our stay . As we were familiar with the area, we did not require it as much, but to a first time visitor to Maine or Schoodic , it would be invaluable. We especially enjoyed the guide to pronounciations! Having lived in the mid coast area of Maine ( moved from the midwest), we could have used that when we first arrived! We hope to return again and highly recommend this property. Thanks Tom and Anna"

  • Excellent. Well worth the cost.

"It is a lovely place, neatly tucked away in a wooded area. There is a brief, but rigorous, walk down to the bay where there is a mussel bed. It was well worth the drive and the quiet welcoming environment made it feel as if we had the place all to ourselves. The inn keepers were helpful and prvoided a great place to relax. It was a nice place for heading into Bar Harbor for the day."

  • Perfect location for lovers of nature and serenity

"The cottage exceeded our expectations. When we arrived everything was prepared for our two weeks' stay at the clean and well maintained property. The owner provides helpful directions for the use of household appliances and plenty of material concerning trips, restaurants, shopping etc. Cooking our dinners most of the time was made easy in the well equipped kitchen. The location is perfect and we liked observing the change of tides. We spent a lot of time watching gulls, cormorants, a blue heron and even bald eagles across the cove. We did some hiking in the near vicinity and especially loved Tunk Pond. The Acadia Loop offered great views, but the Schoodic Peninsula Loop was even more fascinating and not so crowded. We were very impressed by a boat trip on the R.L.Gott starting from Bass Harbour watching seals, various sea birds and several bald eagles. A 45-minute flight in a Cessna operated by Acadia Air Tours revealed the dimensions and beauty of the region. We would highly recommend this place and area to anyone who wants an undisturbed vacation in a comfortable cottage surrounded by fascinating sea- and landscapes."

  • Perfect Getaway

"We had a great week at Surchin's End. The cottage was all we had hoped for -- peaceful, spacious, comfortable, thoughtfully decorated and equipped, lovely. Just right for cooking, eating in, and planning our next adventure. A tranquil water and mountain view from the deck, Adirondack chairs near the water, interesting books and places to read and write, and wonderful artwork throughout made this a special place that felt like home. The location was quite convenient -- great for exploring all that the Schoodic area has to offer, but close enough to Bar Harbor and MDI for day trips and dinners. I especially recommend checking out the Frenchman's Bay Conservancy's map of short hikes and the Park Service's new bike/multi-use trails at Schoodic Woods. The Schoodic area is beautiful, quiet, and restorative. We hiked up Baker Hill, which has spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay, and saw only one other person. There were more things to see and do than we could cram into a week, and we hope to return."
