  • Great house!

"The Rusticator is a perfect house for a family vacation in Acadia. It is a short walk to all of the shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor, and a short drive to Acadia. You can even walk from the front door of the house to the top of Cadillac Mountain (only 4 miles away) by hopping on the Great Meadow trail that is about 1/2 mile away. The house is clean and well maintained, and the kitchen is perfect for cooking large meals with room for everyone to help out."

  • Great Cabin in Acadia

"This cabin is perfect for a week in Acadia!! It is centrally located, between Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Easy access to the carriage trails with very detailed walking directions. The efficiency kitchen arrangement suited us very well for preparing a light breakfast with coffee, packing a lunch and dining out for dinner (we did cook lobster outside on the deck on a foggy Thursday for lunch and it was so easy and delicious we did it all over again Friday night!!). The cabin has heaters that quickly take the chill off when turned on for just a few minutes in the morning. The fireplace would be lovely on a cool night but we stayed on a week that didn't get too cool. Hosts communicate readily and are very helpful if you have specific questions. Plenty of brochures and a journal from past visitors provide information on things to do. There are very detailed hiking books on Acadia hikes and carriage trails which we found extremely helpful. Hosts even provide a backpack, binoculars, and a small cooler for your use. The cabin is comfortable, with good lighting, and space to unpack clothes (although there is no formal closet, there is a bar with hangers). We used the loft for storing our suitcases since we didn't need the extra bed. There is a house nearby which had guests, but the privacy fence and the arrangement of the two buildings is situated nicely so the neighbors do not feel too close. Check in and check out is a breeze. Thank you Margaret for providing such a warm and well cared for place!! I hope we can return some day and hike a few more trails. 1 hour ago"

  • Great location, clean room, and friendly hosts

"We traveled to Bar Harbor to see Acadia and found the location perfect for catching the free shuttle into the park. The house's location made it very easy to walk to Bar Harbor's shops and restaurants. We met the owners of the house who were very welcoming and friendly. During our stay, we used the backyard grill, which was a nice bonus considering the refrigerator for the unit made it easy to store food purchased at the local supermarket. The rental unit is attached to the main house, but since there is no one "above" the roof of the rental, it's very quiet. An AC unit helps keep the unit cool, but we rarely needed it during our stay in late August, as the nights get fairly brisk. The books in the unit came in handy when planning our trips into the national park. The microwave, cooktop, and various cups and cutlery made cooking in fairly easy when we weren't enjoying Bar Harbor's restaurants. Overall, we'd recommend Gone Fishing for friends and family and hope to revisit someday."

  • Place was great! Seemed to be dead center in the middle of everything in Bar Harbor!

"The place worked out great! It was just my wife and I but we enjoyed having the extra space! The place is located dead center in the middle of everything! We were a 25 yard walk from the grocery store across the street but set back away from the road enough to keep it very quiet! Bar Island bridge which exists during low tide and disappears during high tide was a 5 minute walk from the house! We found ourselves spending the day in Acadia walking trails, coming back to buy pounds of lobster, scallops etc at the grocery store across the way each day, and sitting back and enjoying some great meals! Store will cook them there for you! Due to great proximity of the house, we could just walk out the door and wander after dinner down to the shops to look around or walk down by the bay! Everything was a few minute walk! I highly recommend the house due to its fantastic location! I recommend buying the lobsters in the store at $6.99 a pound and letting them cook them for you! So much more affordable then paying triple for them in the restaurants! Especially if you are a large group! Take advantage of the convenience of being in the house!"
