"My wife and I have visited the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park area for 15 of the last 20 years. We started our stays in hotels in Bar Harbor, then moved to bed and breakfasts. When our daughters arrived we traveled by RV and stayed in camp grounds on Mt. Desert Island. Once our daughters were old enough, we began renting homes for our weeks' visits. We usually visit in the first week of August, so we rented homes on Long Pond, but the last two years we came early in the season and rented near Bar Harbor. This home is three minutes by car from the center of Bar Harbor, and is very convenient to the supermarket and restaurants. You can walk to town. It is also only a couple of minutes away from the park's entrance, and five minutes from the Eagle Lake carriage road. This house is the nicest we've stayed in - the place feels brand new. Everything is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. On the first floor is a living room and a modern, fully stocked eat-in kitchen, with everything you need except food. We were left wanting for nothing. There is a large outside deck behind the kitchen with a gas grill and table and chairs, and the view from the deck is beautiful. We spent a good part of our day on the deck when we were at the house. Despite the home's closeness to Bar Harbor, It has a very very private feel about it and the area is very quiet. And as promised, we were visited by a half dozen humming birds as they came to the feeder on the deck. The deck overlooks a huge back yard with plenty of room for the kids and dog to run around in. Off one side of the kitchen is a master bedroom with a king-sized bed with a very comfortable memory foam mattress, and en-suite bath with jacuzzi tub; to the other side of the kitchen is a half bath with washer and dryer. The second floor has two bedrooms and a full bath, again all tastefully decorated. One bedroom is set up with a couch and love seat in addition to the bed and looks out at the view. This room also has books ands ands games you can use during your visit. Our teenaged daughters stayed upstairs and liked it very much. We had occasion to meet the owner, and she is every bit as lovely as her home. She communicated with us quickly during the initial contact, promptly sent out the contract, and our security deposit arrived two days after we returned home. We absolutely recommend staying here, and will return next year. You won't be disappointed!"

  • Great home with everything you need!

"Our time at Windaway was very enjoyable. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed. We even cooked Thanksgiving dinner there! Matt, the homeowner, was friendly and accommodating, even going out of his way to locate a turkey baster for us when it was the one thing the kitchen didn't already have. The home was more spacious than it appears in the photos, and our two families felt we could stretch out no problem. The home was impeccably clean with towels & linens that were of high quality. Beds were more comfortable than my own! The walk down to the water is a bonus, and the view from the house itself is quite nice, although there is not a sweeping water view from downstairs. In short, we thought this home exceeded expectations and we felt sure that Matt would have happily helped us out if there had been any issues, but there weren't. He was also kind & welcoming to our dog, who liked him in return. As mentioned in the listing, many popular Acadia trail heads are about a 20-25 minute drive away, so this house lets you access everything, but also get away from it all. Great spot!"

  • We had a great time! The home was perfect!

"The home we stayed the week in offered everything we needed. It was better than advertised! The kayaks were a great bonus to be able to use! We love Mt Desert! This is our second vacation here! Acadia park has so much for everyone! We hiked, watched the sunset on Cadillac mountain and rode our motorcycles thru the park several times. We rode our motorcycles coastal scenic Hi way Rt 1 north to Lubec, Maine. We rode our motorcycles to Rangeley Mountain and enjoyed those views! Dining and shopping in Bar Harbor is always a treat! I'm sure we'll return in a few years and hopefully this home will be available!"

  • Winter break December 2016

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful spacious cottage located in a beautiful, quaint part of the island (Otter Creek). The cottage was fully stocked with all necessary amenities including fire wood for the fireplace. This was our annual year end vacation to visit family who live in Bar Harbor and provided a wonderful venue for all of our family to gather for dinner while in town. We hope to return again soon and this cottage will be out first choice location to stay."
