"Unbelievable! Superlative; a perfect solution to our dream vacation in Maine. Located in an area surrounded by secluded harbor towns with NO traffic lights! One hour by car to travel to Bar Harbor and Acadia. The view from the house of the cove at sunrise, the ocean at dusk...and stars in the sky at night are breathtaking. The house is off the road and surrounded by mature trees at the edge of the typical rocky coast. The interior decorations, layout are as described and you feel you are "down East". The housekeeping is immaculate, clean and fresh . The decor is detailed with appointments, are picture perfect and yet homey...yet like visiting family. The welcome with wine and the friendship bread was a pleasant surprise. Hanging out, relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, sipping wine...and having time to converse or just read a book...lounge in the hammock and nap...all with a breeze and scent of salty air! Thankful to be away from it all. The desktop photo on my computer now is the photo of the ocean and rocky shore from the house! Views for everywhere are keepers. And what is a vacation without special food adventures? At the house, the kitchen featured CuisinArt, cast iron and a gigantic lobster pot and is well stocked, great for steamed lobster dinners in; or for that occasional special romantic evening dining in. We found lobster available fresh off the boats in the harbor at reduced prices only found in Maine. We had our Boxer/Lab dog along and enjoyed local restaurants for breakfast on occasion, lunches on the wharf, and dinners on the friendly as well. The location provides opportunities to play tourist at Acadia and Bar Harbor, or just enjoy watching the activity of the lobster boats in the harbors, a visit to U.S. Bell...for a dinner bell or quilt? How about lunch on the wharf at Corea Harbor? The locals are friendly and very helpful. Sally is a superb hostess; we travel often and she is outstanding in her professional yet personal manner in providing responsive, timely support and recommendations. We plan to return...the greatest complement we can offer. Thank you for the perfect, memorable vacation location."

  • A Peaceful Cabin on Coastal Maine

"We stayed a short time (4 days) in this clean, quiet, attractive cabin looking out over Union River Bay with great views, and did I mention the quiet? I didn't realize that I don't miss traffic noise and light pollution until we stayed here; very enjoyable. This was our base for exploring the area (we'd stayed nearby previously) and Acadia NP and MDI. Very convenient to all. And you're a short hop to Ellsworth for anything you may need. Another plus for me was that I was off the grid (Virgin Mobile) in this area so got a break from calls and email, but only had to go a few miles to pick up a signal. Sometimes we just need to get back to basics to enjoy ourselves. The cabin came with everything we needed, so you don't need to haul a lot of stuff to set up housekeeping here. Russ and Dawn were enjoyable to work with, especially on short notice, and we set up our stay via a few emails and calls. No surprises. We even met the mom on arrival and she conveniently facilitated the lease. Thanks for the pleasant stay and we may visit again. P.S. I don't want to forget to mention dinner at our favorite Maine seafood restaurant, Union River Lobster Pot, in Ellsworth. Try their superb scallops, I had them twice, baked and fried, and they were really great. Enjoy!"

  • Perfect, cozy, relaxing spot

"My boyfriend and I stayed in this lovely cottage while exploring Acadia. It was perfect for the two of us! Much more spacious than the pictures show. The flowers were welcoming as was the sunny, open entryway/living room. We were half an hour from most of the hikes we wanted to do but very close to Southwest Harbor which was a classy and quaint town with just enough delicious restaurants and activity to keep us satisfied. We even got pizza one early evening and brought it back to the cottage and sat outside on the patio and ate pizza and drank beers. We had scrumptious seafood in town a few nights as well. It was peaceful and private and felt like we were in our own little world. There were a few hikes we also did close to the cottage and Bass Harbor lighthouse was just a few minutes down the road. We had wanted to extend our stay because we were enjoying our time so much but someone else was arriving. Leslie was great on the phone when we were first exploring options and we are so thankful we decided on this location once we became familiar with a few of the other towns we were checking out online. If you want a home away from home that is close enough to different activities and great food but far enough that you aren't right in the thick of tourist hell, this is definitely a perfect option."

  • Beautiful

"Due to some road construction and other things that slowed us down, we arrived after dark. The street was a little hard to see and I'm sure we surprised a neighbor because we drove down his long driveway before realizing our error. The housekeeper had some family issues so she forgot to leave the porch light on. With the help of the headlights, we found the key and let ourselves in. I have to say the house is beautiful. We had a hard time finding the second and third bedroom because of a cryptic note on the door to the lower level, which is where they were along with the laundry room and the second bathroom. Those bedrooms had lovely screened-in balconies with wonderful views of the trees and water. The house is partially built into the cliff. The main floor and third floor balconies also had great views. The beds were made up and the house was clean. There was something gritty in the drawers that my sister used, probably sand. Everything the owner told us would be there, was there. Even the pantry items came in handy. The only thing missing was powdered creamer which I left the rest of mine for the next renters. The sunrises and sunsets weren't quite as lovely as promised, but it seemed that our week was the week for a lot of fog. Renters should be reminded how isolated the house is out on the peninsula. I would skip the Sunrise Cafe in Lubec--our breakfast took a long time to get and the eggs were overdone and the bacon wasn't done enough. We did enjoy the crab rolls at Uncle Kippy's by the IGA. Be warned, they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was hard to find a place close by that served whole lobsters so we drove to Betty's Crabmeat in Pembrook and picked up 6 1-1/4 pound soft-shell lobsters at the nice price of $6.99 a pound that I cooked. Betty is a sweetheart and not only stayed on the phone with us and talked us to her little shop but told me exactly how to cook the lobsters. I was traveling with my sister and my brother and we're all in our 60's. We explored several state and national parks. We didn't see much wildlife except for birds and the porcupine we surprised coming down Birch Point. The whale watching tour didn't produce much in the way of whales, but we saw quite a few porpoises, seals and seabirds, including cormorants. We had a wonderful time. We probably won't be back to Maine because we have lots of other places to explore before we get to the point that we can't, but we loved Maine. Our country is beautiful"
