  • Magical

"The saltwater farmhouse is absolutely magical. The view of the ocean across the field is outstanding. We absolutely fell in love with this property. The weather was perfect and we just relaxed and walked to the rocky coast periodically to check out the tide pools and otherwise just enjoyed the ambiance. Our dogs loved the wide space to run and the swims in the ocean. The puffin tour leaving from Port Clyde is a must do if you are there at the right time of the year. Bring supplies because Rockland seems to be the closest sizable grocery store and it is a 30 minute drive at least."

  • Enchanting!

"This was our second year to spend a week in September at the Carousel. We will definitely want to return again and again. The house is beautifully located on a bluff overlooking the ocean with a deck that offers gorgeous views of the sunrise, the ocean with working lobster boats and, of course, the sound of surf pounding below. One special feature that we loved was the way the sun warms the deck in the morning so that even on chilly September morings it was comfortable to sit outside and enjoy coffee with the view. Inside, the house is well equipped for cooking and relaxing. We loved the comfortable living room with its many windows, making it possible to enjoy the view even on rainy or stormy days. There are two bedrooms downstairs, each with its own bathroom (beautifully rennovated) and a bed upstairs in the loft. The only problem I could find with the house is that a couple sleeping upstairs cannot access a bathroom without going through one of the downstairs bedrooms. If children are sleeping in the loft ths might be ok, but not for, say, a third couple. Otherwise, I would say the house is perfect. If you prefer to do something other than sit on the deck, there are lovely places to visit nearby - for example, the Marshall Point Lighthouse, the little village of Port Clyde, Drift-in Beach, the Lobster Lane Used Bookstore (unfortunately only open on weekends) and Monhegan Island which has a nice boat ride to get there and some wonderful hiking. The house and its surroundings are all a very special experience!"

  • A blissful retreat with everything we need!

"The farmhouse, everything in it, the surroundings, were all as described and just fabulous. There are so many high points. Where to begin? To have so much space -- what a luxury. The barn swing in a thunderstorm! The Vulcan stove (how can we ever cook on anything else again?) The eclectic decor -- a touch of Italy and Southern France in a historic New England farmhouse. (In honor of that, we had a game of boules on the driveway.) The shower! (I took photos -- that's going in my "next" house!) The ping pong table, (my long-armed husband was able to retrieve a bunch of the ping-pong balls that had all rolled into the same spot under the barn!) Barbecuing on the patio. Walks to the water. Kayaking on the river (thank you Bill Michaud! He rents the kayaks out of the Outsiders Inn in Friendship.) The amazing flocks of wild turkeys. The little farm at the top of the street -- where we got to meet all the animals (goats, sheep, donkey, geese, turkeys, chickens, ducks) each with their own story. A swim off Martin Point. The perseids meteor shower -- thank you skies for clearing on the peak night. Wallace grocery store -- excellent, especially their generous lobster rolls and the French bread brought in from Atlantic Bakery in Rockland. The Olson House. And yes, close enough to other points of interest. We revisited The Farnsworth Museum in Rockland. Thank you for being dog-friendly! I think our dog had the best vacation of any of us, almost! We can't recommend the farm highly enough. Perfect place, perfect setting! The Gunters"

  • Terrific cozy cottage perfect for our family of 4

"We chose this cottage based on its location to several of the attractions and towns we wanted to visit. We are from Virginia so we wanted to have a home base in Maine while we could explore but we also needed a place that supplied linens, towels, and a furnished kitchen. We wanted to be off of the beaten path not in a camp ground. This cottage offered privacy and plenty to do. Our children are (9 & 10) and enjoyed the use of the kayaks around the pond as did we. There were a great selection and amount of supplied life vests. They were able to explore in the water and the land (small beach and woods). The screened in porch was one of our favorite places - eating, reading, and game playing. Even when it rained, we sat outside not getting wet. We had brought a few of our favorite games from home but we found there were tons of games to choose from already at the cottage. The kitchen was small but totally usable. We would eat a later lunch out exploring then come home and eat a light dinner on the porch. We found everything we needed in the kitchen. The local grocery store was about 15 minutes away (if that) and there were several farm stands close by. I would and have already recommended this cottage to friends and family. I hope to be able to go back again!"
