  • Look No Further!

"We rented this house the first week of August 2016. The owners, Alice & Eli, were a pleasure to work with and quickly answered all of our questions. Alice was waiting for us at the house the first day and gave us the tour and highlights of things we should know. The house is beautiful. We especially enjoyed the large screened porch, the well-designed kitchen and the huge walk-in shower. This house has lots of charm and character and seems much more like someone’s year-round residence than a vacation rental. There are beautiful antiques, shelves overflowing with books and everything needed for a comfortable vacation week. There’s no Wi-Fi but we had good coverage through our Verizon phones. We spent many hours kayaking on Bryant Pond (AKA Lake Christopher). The lake is assessable by a steep natural path to a set of docks. There’s no beach but there is a ladder that made getting out of our kayaks relatively easy. The lake is fairly large and there were limited power boats and no jet skis on the lake while we were there. The house is a very short distance off a main road with a great convenience store (plus ice cream and delicious pizza) moments away. We’ve vacationed in this area many times over the past years and enjoy the location for its proximity to the North Conway NH area and the availability of ‘civilization’ in the nearby towns of Oxford, Norway, Paris and Bethel. (Be sure to visit the Hungry Hollow Country Store on your way or on one of your tips out! Also check out Brian’s Bistro in Rumford.) You should know that there is an active rail line across the street from the house. A single freight train comes through each weeknight between 10 and 11. We enjoyed the sights and sounds as it came and went out each night to watch it pass by. You should also know that there is a house next door that rents to groups of up to 24 people. We had the ‘neighbors from hell’ during our week that put a serious damper on the quality of our vacation. Eli noted that issues from there are rare. Your results should vary. Overall excellent!"

  • Family Gathering at Glen House

"We had a great week ... There were 16 of us and at times 18'..... There to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Ages ranged from 70s to 5 and no one lacked for something to do.... A couple of minor issues which Gretcen handled promptly and efficiently without any major inconvenience at all ... We catered several dinners which were done very well. The house was great, well equipped and left us wanting for very little.... Would definitely go back."

  • Wonderful stay!

"We had a wonderful stay at The House on the Hill. We had a wedding to attend in Bethel, which is about 15 mins. away, but we decided to rent this home so we could have more family time. It was the perfect decision for us. The home is so well appointed, with everything easily accessible, and lots of complimentary extras that we were not expecting, such as coffee, teas, condiments, and even a dozen fresh eggs from a local farm. The bedrooms are very well appointed with high quality sheets and blankets and the beds were very comfortable. Extra towels, blankets, and toiletries, were available, if needed. The upstairs bathroom has a shower only, which we were fine with, while the downstairs bathroom has a tub/shower unit. There was plenty of hot water and the water pressure was great. What impressed me the most was the cleanliness of this home, the attention to detail, and the ease of use for things such as the tv remote, the coffeepot, and the dishwasher. It is obvious that a lot of time and thought has gone into making guests feel at home. Anne was great to work with and very accommodating. I hope we can return someday. Oh, and if you are staying in the summer, like we did, you will love falling asleep to the loons singing on the lake nearby. Heavenly!"

  • Family reunion for our 60th wedding anniversary

"Our children, grandchildren and grea granddaughter came from several states to celebrate with us. Bentham House proved to be more than we had hoped to have. The house was beautiful and spacious giving us opportunities to be together or to be in small groups. The variety of activities in the house and in the community kept everyone busy. I feared the young adults would be bored but they were very busy. And the play room was a hit with our great granddaughter. The kitchen was well appointed. It was perfect and we have many wonderful memories at Bingham House."
