  • Wonderful farmhouse for a retreat!

"Our group of 11 stayed at Orchard Beach Farmhouse for a writers' retreat and it was perfect. The living space is huge with enough seating for everyone, plus there were several other little nooks inside and out where groups could split off for quiet time or for smaller conversations. We loved all of the fabulous decorations, and I'd like to get my own bowling alley counter tops :). The house was close to activities for those of us who wanted to go wine tasting, horseback riding, or walk to the beach. And we enjoyed the outdoor space to view the lunar eclipse/supermoon (if only it hadn't been so cloudy!). Thanks for a lovely place to stay!"

  • Family Vacation

"Our family has stayed in several homes along lake michigan but it seems like we always come back to our favorite... "The SummerHouse." Colleen the property manager is wonderful to work with and could not be more accomodating. She is always available for any questions about the home or area and very quick to address any concerns there may be. The two story home (first level / walkout basement to pool) is perfect for families with a wide range of ages. Two bedrooms upstairs, and one bedroom downstairs in addition to 4th bed/sleeping quarters makes it possible to seperate those who may go to bed early and those who stay up late. There is a large fully stocked kitchen that has everything you need to make family dinners at home with plenty of seating around the kitchen island or dining room table. There is a deck that spans that entire back of the home and very large concrete patio with ample furniture to lounge around the pool. The pool has a diving board for the kids and automatic cover for the parents convience and piece of mind. The backyard is great for the kids to blow off energy on the swing set or a game of whiffle ball and has a fire pit at the rear of the property for snacks and stories as the night winds down. The home is a very short walk to a large nicely maintained private beach area. The SummerHouse located in Union Pier is only a 5 minute drive away from restaurants and some nightlife in downtown New Buffalo, but far enough away in a quite neighborhood for some relaxing vacation time. There is a small market and a wonderful deli a short walk away for those who would prefer not to leave Union Pier. Must do area activites include visiting the Galien River County Park where there is a fishing dock and a sky platform that overlooks the river and wildlife area. The New Buffalo Township Office has a splash park for kids, a nature trail, and full court basketball court as well. Just a short drive up the road you can rent kayaks and spend an hour or two paddling on the Galien River. We will return to the SummerHouse without a doubt! - John B. and Family - Indianapolis, IN"

  • Cute cottage with a great location

"We enjoyed our week in Cottage C. It's roomy and comfortable on the whole. The layout is a little odd--with two bedrooms and two bathrooms off the kitchen--but it worked surprisingly well to allow everyone privacy and quiet after the kids went to sleep. We loved the outdoor spaces--all the decks and the patio, and especially the little screened porch off the master bedroom. The community of cottages is adorable and quiet (despite one very sour neighbor who seemed offended by our very existence and lost her head when my husband mistakenly came into the parking lot through the exit--God forbid!). I do wish the kitchen were a little more accommodating: Even with all of our meals prepared or prepped in advance, I struggled a little. And I was disappointed by the cleanliness when we arrived: When I wiped off the kitchen table, the cloth came away brown (Yuck!), and the kitchen trash can lid looked like it had never been cleaned before. On the upside, though, it's less than 1/4 mile to the beach at McKinley Street (which is by far the better of the two nearby beaches--quiet and sandy), an easy and pleasant walk. You can literally come here, park your car, and never drive anywhere all week since little restaurants and shops are a half mile down Townline. It's a great spot, on the whole."

  • Clean, beautiful, centrally located space!

"We really loved our stay at Breeze. The condo is beautiful, with tons of space for our family of four. The open kitchen/living area was great for us to all hang out, and having the bedrooms on the other end of the condo was nice since we were traveling with younger kids. Harbert was nice, and it was easy to get to New Buffalo, St Joe, etc. we'd stay here again for sure! A couple negatives... The condo is backing up to the train, and at an intersection. When a train comes, you get clanging bells and train horns that are really loud. Also, all the bedrooms have very lightweight curtains. Great for the lofty vibe, but not great for kids going to bed early or anyone sleeping in. Also, the silverware in the kitchen was super cheap, picnic quality. I know a vacation rental will have cheaper stuff, but this was too low budget for such a nice place. None of these are deal breakers, though, it's still a great condo! Also, putting a guestbook out would be fun. Other rentals we've stayed in have done that, and I love seeing other peoples recommendations for things to do!"
