  • Lovely Host, Lovely apartment, Lovely area

"Marina was the most welcoming and friendly host, and greeted us (we were hot and tired) with a smile and a bottle of chilled water, which was exactly what we needed. Marina knows what a traveler needs, as is obvious from the facilities in the apartment. The fridge is full of chilled water, half and half; there is complimentary tea and coffee, lovely shampoos, conditioners, soaps, body wash. There are robes, umbrellas , hair dryers, DVDs, sewing kit, all kinds of useful things that one might have forgotten to bring. The apartment is artsy and comfortable and is in such a great location - right in the middle of the West Village, which is full of gorgeous restaurants, coffee shops, little stores; there is jazz and theater close by. We were so pleased we decided to stay here. I highly recommend this apartment, and could not have asked for a nicer host. Thank you, Marina."

  • Harlem Brownstone Apartment

"We stayed in Joycelyn's apartment from September 16 - 19. First off she was very accommodating with getting us in a few hours earlier than normal check in since our flights got us there around lunch time. The basement apartment is fabulous. The rooms were spacious enough for the four of us. The beds and furniture were in excellent condition and comfortable. There were AC units in both bedrooms and living room so you can adjust the temperature to your liking. Being someone who needs the white noise to sleep I was very happy to find those in the bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes (even though we didn't use them) and was a good size. We used the back yard area the first night we were there and couldn't believe how quiet the neighborhood was. Staying in a basement apartment you're always worried about noise coming from those above you, but it never happened. As for the neighborhood - I loved it. We were very close to Sexy Taco which is a fabulous place to grab some shrimp tacos! We felt very safe there. I even went for a run to the upper part of Central Park and back up to 120th St. The apartment is VERY close to the 2 & 3 line trains, but unfortunately the lines went down for the weekend we were there. We were able to walk comfortably to the A/C/E lines at the corner of Central Park West (about 6 blocks away) to get to the Museum of Natural History and Midtown. I will definitely use Joycelyn's apartment on my next group trip to New York. Thanks again for such a pleasant stay!"

  • Quiet apartment in great Upper West neighborhood

"Because there are few reviews of this on VRBO (log book in apartment shows many rentals), I've included a few extra details.  Bottom line: we will stay here again. The apartment is offered by a management company.  Although this likely increases the price, the assistance offered in regards to email, telephone and the set-up and maintenance of the apartment is a good tradeoff. This apartment in the back of the second floor of a brownstone is located in a toney and quiet residential Westside neighborhood with very convenient access to transportation, shopping and restaurants. No street  noise whatsoever. The floor plan itself is small but  efficient (the pictures on the website are accurate).  A big plus in summer are the two  quiet AC units: one  in the  main room /kitchenette area and one in the  small  bedroom.  They are more than adequate. (I don't know about cold weather heating.)  The supply of  small items had hits and misses. The bedroom and living room, the latter with its small barstool dining table,  are  excellent spaces to spend the few hours you will stay in the apartment. Although the appliances in the kitchenette are good, the counter space for food preparation is very small. While toasting bread, making an omelet on the 4 burner cooktop, boiling a cup of  water or preparing a frozen dinner (yuck) in the  microwave is simple, preparing a more involved meal is not easy. The cabinets over the counter are very high: you need a step stool (supplied) to access beyond the first shelf. These last few comments on the kitchenette may not be applicable to many renters. We found it a minor inconvenience.  It's a great place to stay.  We will surely come back to stay here."
