  • Great Location with Disappointments Related to House and Owners

"We had a great week at the house with 23 family members staying in both sides of the duplex, however there were many problems with the house. The location and beach could not be better. This was fantastic. However, the week was riddled with daily communication with the owners of the property, as the a/c was not working properly in one side and the temperature was borderline manageable at night. We worked with hvac people who came and we were helpful and supportive to the owners. The problem was not fixed well and temp increased during our stay. Additionally, the sleeper sofa in that same unit (Stars) was broken and not useable, which was problematic for the number of people we had. We needed this sleeping option because the Alcove bedroom was too hot for the adults who were staying there. This was not fixed or replaced and impacted our stay. Anyone staying here needs to fully understand what "Alcove" bedroom means...it is not a proper bedroom with a door. It is essentially the entryway of the unit n the ground level and the owners have put a bed in there. So, it is open, not much privacy. This is not clearly stated on the listing, so our family would recommend that you not plan on anyone staying down there, except for a teenager perhaps. It is absolutely not acceptable as a bedroom for adults. The bathroom that "Alcove" bedroom guests must use is the powder room upstairs next to the kitchen on the main floor. There were some other issues with maintenance/upkeep in the house but these were many and fairly minor in our view. The last thing that is important to add is that the owners appeared to be helpful and in contact with us - until we asked for a discount for Stars unit for the week and we wanted to resolve this. Amy told us she would discuss this with Greg, and would get back to us, but never did. From this point on, they would not respond to our communications, which was very disappointing considering how much communication (friendly we thought) during the week we had and all the time we spent w the issues. It was clear to us that they were really not committed to resolving the issues to completion. We, ourselves, are landlords and find this very hard to understand, and unacceptable. We will not stay in this property again for this reason and the only reason we give 4 stars is for location and beach. Disappointing way to end a stay."

  • Picture perfect

"Pictures are on point, only thing missing are pictures of the dolphins you'll see playing or feeding. Thank you for sharing your home."

  • Very nice decor and clean. Quick walk to a beach access which was fantastic.

"This was a perfect spot for my family including 3 small children. The beach was quiet and no overcrowded at all. I couldn't be happier with the overall experience."

  • Perfect

"What a wonderful place to stay! I read all the reviews of A Pole in the Ayre and researched other properties before booking and I have to be honest this was more then I expected. Kitchen literally had every essential item one one need, bedrooms were large and cozy, and the open concept upstairs was what really brought it all together! After driving nearly 800 miles from upstate NY, this was definitely the place to relax for a week away from it all. Surf fishing was so so, but my son was able to catch many varietys of fish from the pier right next door. The beach, since it was off season was amazingly our own playground for the week! To playing soccer, baseball, throwing a football and lacrosse, the entire beach was just ours! The surround sound system throughout the house and on the back porch was a bonus! We enjoyed enough christmas music to last the rest of the season! Other activies we were able to get in included a round of golf 5 minutes away, and a nice trip to Wilmington to have lunch at the front street brewery and tour the Battleship! (Highly recommended). But the best part of it all would have been just relaxing on the porch overlooking the ocean where dolphins played right in front of the house. Further out, you could see large water spouts shoot in the air followed by whale tails breaking the water! ( wish I had brought binoculars). We really lucked out with not to shabby weather for the time of year! I left with a tan face. Overall, this house was just what was needed for us for the week and it was everything the reviews said and more! We would like to thank the homeowners for allowing us to stay there and enjoy this property! We can't wait to return next year!"
