  • Excellent Cabin

"My husband and I have never been in the Franklin area as we always venture to Brevard to see Pisgah, Dupont and Gorges. This was a nice treat to be relatively close to the Great Smokies in Cherokee. Plenty of places to hike and fish. We even ventured further north to Cataloochee Valley to see the Elk. WELL WORTH THE 2 HOUR DRIVE, however if you are prone to car sickness the roads would not be good for you in Cataloochee. The cabin is excellent. Beautifully decorated, comfortable, well stocked. Porches were amazing. The shower had great water pressure and tons of hot water, well needed after a full day in the mountains. I would recommend this cabin to families or couples. The living room was very accommodating, TV's worked great, plenty of channels. The drive is not bad, we made it up the driveway in a Honda Accord, just have to be careful to make sure no ruts or mounds are in the way. (There were not when we were there) During our time in Franklin, Cherokee and Cataloochee Valley we saw 11 Elk (4 males, 7 females), 6 wild turkeys a deer, a woodchuck, and a possum. My husband swears he saw the hind end of the bear, but I didn't see it so it doesn't count."

  • Highly recommended

"Stayed 6 nights and wish we had stayed longer. The views from the sunroom and back deck were fantastic; we spent most of our time (including every meal) in the sunroom, which has huge windows on 3 sides. We saw a wide variety of birds (including 14 species of warblers, hawks, ravens, orioles and many others); being able to see birds from ABOVE as they flew below us was really neat. Chipmunks and beautiful flowers in yard. The clarity of the stars at night was amazing - great view of the Milky Way, and saw many falling stars and satellites. Even with a new moon, the starlight was so bright that it never seemed fully dark at night. The cabin itself was just the right size, thoughtfully laid out, and uncluttered. Linens/towels were soft and clean, the down comforters were especially nice. I agree with the owner's suggestion to bring all the groceries you will want for your full stay - the one time that we went to Cherokee for supplies, we regretted the time 'missed' at the cabin. One of the most special things about the location was the peace and quiet - almost no signs or sounds of civilization. We found ourselves talking in hushed voices, even though we were all alone. We did not turn on the TV at all during our visit. With Verizon cell service, I could get/send emails/texts (but wished I hadn't), but could not get service for phone calls. I was able to get good radio reception of a public radio station in Tennessee, and listened to that while cooking (if you must keep up with the news). It was also really appreciated that we could bring our dog along. We plan to come back in different seasons - would be lovely in the spring and when the leaves are turning in the fall. Thanks Jim!!"

  • Loved this property!

"Our family of 10 (age 20 and up) thoroughly enjoyed this property. It was spacious and beautifully decorated. The porch view is stunning and the trail through the woods to the rock cliff overlook was also amazing! We cooked or grilled every evening and made a few treks down the mountain to Waynesville, Lake Junaluska and the surrounding area. Our kids took one day trip to Asheville and another afternoon to raft the Tuckasegee River. There's plenty of flat space at this property to play yard games (We love cornhole and kuub). The ping pong table also got a work out. We spent most of our time though on the deck in rocking chairs, enjoying the cool breezes and admiring the beautiful view all around. The drive up from the highway is not for the faint of heart; lots of switchbacks but we had no trouble even after dark. A beautiful place to hang out, relax and enjoy great conversation. You will not be disappointed. This is a beautiful home in a prime location. Thanks also to Mark for being so helpful and responsive."

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were disappointed in the jacuzzi it was an oversized bathtub with jets, we had hopes for a multi person hot tub, out bad though. We called and asked about a grill were told no grill and when we arrived yeah we saw one, went to the store bought $60?steaks and ... No gas. The home was great just aliterate dusty."
