  • Great accommodation with breathtaking views

"This is a well maintained, bright, clean and spacious home in a wonderful location with a splendid view. It is well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen and large games room with table tennis. Day trips in the area include Highlands, Bryson City, Asheville and Smoky Mountains National Park which has a very good visitor's center. There are trails to the many waterfalls in the area approximately an hour's drive from the house in several directions. The property lends itself to family gatherings that include children. Weather permitting, the deck, overlooking layers of hills and mountains, is the best place for meals. The evening sky is not to be missed! While the house is very private and fairly remote at the end of a long climbing driveway, there is good grocery shopping nearby in Franklin and easy access to roads and freeways."

  • Perfect for a family; Clean and Friendly

"This cottage was absolutely perfect! I will recommend it to all of my friends and family and fully intend to return to the area and I would not consider staying anywhere else. Our vacation consisted of a road trip from FL and we used this as a home base. We saw Charlestown, SC the first day, arriving late at the cottage where the owners had everything warm and ready for us. The next day we went into town, after a great recommendation from the owners for a place to have breakfast, and then did some local gem mining. With daylight left, we decided to drive to see Craggy Gardens north of Asheville - an amazing view of the Smokey Mountains and a beautiful, scenic drive. Once again we got home too late to utilize the full kitchen, but were uber grateful for the really (REALLY) comfortable beds! The next day we went to TN, Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, driving through two National Forests and passing the most beautiful river and white water rapids! Small children, long car rides, my daughter's special blanket got covered in chocolate milk - it was so nice to go "home" and find the pantry stocked with laundry detergent and we were able to wash and dry all the laundry of 2 small children. On a side note, also about children, the mine right behind the cottage - across the highway - was perfect! They let us set up a play-yard for the littlest one right at the flume and let my daughter play all over the property when she was tired of mining, but we weren't done. So this cottage is very convenient to that activity. Maybe a 5 minute drive all said and done, if that. Last day we put the furniture back to where it was supposed to be, returned all of the cute decor I didn't want my daughter to break, and headed out. To be honest, I wish we had more time. The cottage had great hot water, an abundance of towels, dishes, pots and pans, a fun layout and upstairs a twin as well as queen bed... so it actually did sleep a full 5 people. Oh and the meadow behind it was huge and a great place for kids to run. Honestly I would never consider another place. I looked at a lot of cottages and this was the only one that seemed to have easy access, paved roads, but still had a view and a secluded (but not too secluded) feel. The privacy of the loft bedroom will be nice when we come back. And plenty of room for play yards to be set up as cribs if you need them (but bring them-none there.. and actually I think that's better anyway). Gas heat worked well. I'm out of room! I could go on.."

  • Wonderful vacation

"We spent over 3 weeks in this mountain getaway. The owner, Trudy Upshaw did everything possible to insure that our stay was comfortable and memorable. The evenings sitting on the porch in the cool air was so refreshing. We loved feeding the birds. There were plenty of creature comforts and it felt like home. From the minute you walk in, the house felt warm and inviting. Our experience was very much like camping in the woods with a mountain view but staying in a house with all the things that you need. It's location is not only convenient to Franklin which is a great and friendly little town but we went whitewater rafting, boating, took a ride on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad, and even went on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is so much to do if you want to be active. I am a bicyclist and the local bike shop in Franklin helped me out when I broke a wheel. The Smokey Mountain Bike Shop is wonderful and they provided me with riding routes as well. We would definitely stay again!!!!"

  • Very nice secluded cabin

"The cabin was everything described. It is beautiful and surround by forest. We had a most enjoyable time. I only have a couple of complaints, none of which were Laurie's fault as she was called away on a family emergency. The cabin was not open when we arrived. I had to hunt for over 3 hours to find a local number to call to get it open. Some of the dishes were dirty and the outside garbage had not been emptied. The directions are a bit unclear. Once your turn on Wildwood Acres Rd , just go straight past the short, brick columns on the left. We definitely recommend this cabin!"
