  • Better than we could have imagined

"This was our first time renting on VRBO, so we weren't sure what to expect. I am happy to report that the experience was better than we could have imagined. If every VRBO property is as great as this one, we will never stay in a hotel again. We felt comfortable and at home from the moment we walked in the door til the moment we left. The house was clean, warm, comfortable, inviting, and well-decorated. Every amenity we needed was present and accounted for. The property listing was accurate and the house actually seemed larger on the inside than we expected. We were greatly pleased that linens and towels were all provided. Our favorite surprise was the abundance of children's books and games that were present. We spent hours playing games with our kids and reading them books, which made for extra special family bonding time that we didn't expect. Although we didn't really spend all that much time in the house because we were out and about doing fun activities most of the time, the family time in the house was priceless. The kids also had a great time climbing the big hill behind the house and hiking and exploring in the nearby woods. Activities we participated in while on vacation were: Mini-golf in Gatlinburg, hiking/mountain climbing at the Newfound Gap Overlook, touring the museum at the Smoky Mountain National Forest Visitor Center, Snow Tubing in Scaly Mountain, Gem Mining at Jackson Hole, Climbing down by the massive waterfall at Dry Falls, Visiting Highlands, Playing at the local park, feeding cows next to the local park, having a blast at the fun factory, and visiting the War Memorial. Thanks for the awesome vacation experience! The price was a great value for the awesome experience. Hopefully the property is available again next year."

  • Another Great Stay

"This was our second time staying here, and I can easily see us returning again in the future. That should say a lot. My wife and I timed our trip to enjoy the fall colors, which were gorgeous. We spent a lot of time enjoying the adjacent Highlands Pass property, which is one of the things we really enjoy about staying at the lodge. By the way, to be sure, when you rent the lodge, you are renting the whole thing. It’s not like you rent rooms along with other folks. You get the whole place to yourself, and this place is HUGE. The lodge is spacious inside, with tons of bedrooms and bathrooms (upstairs and down). The upstairs kitchen is awesome. The grounds include 2 ponds, waterfalls, and walking trails. But the feature we like most is the front porch. It’s so relaxing to sit out there and enjoy the view of the ponds and woods. There are lots of chairs (several different kinds), so it’s easy to find one that you’re comfortable in. There’s a hammock as well. My wife and I literally sat out there for hours just talking, catching up, watching the birds, listening to the wind blowing through the falling leaves, and relaxing. It’s porch therapy. It’s the gold standard of porches—we find ourselves speaking fondly of it every now and again as we reflect on our vacations. To be sure, this is an older property, but it’s well-maintained and still in very good condition. If you’re expecting a 5-star stay with everything brand new, and not a speck of dust anywhere, then stay in a $1000 a night high-rise hotel in the city. This place is out in the sticks, so you’ll see a spider or wasp every now and again. The property manager is great, and easy to work with. They are quick to respond if you have any questions before and during your stay. There are plenty of good grocery stores in Franklin, and lots of nice antique shops between Franklin and the lodge. We didn’t have cell phone reception (both our phones use AT&T towers), but there is good solid Internet service. So you may want to get a Skype (or other similar) account set up in advance, and preload it with some minutes if you want to make calls using your smart phone. There is a landline there for incoming calls, emergencies, or to call the property manager (who is local). Overall, we had another wonderful stay, and are thankful to have a place like this available for such a reasonable rate. We highly recommend it."
