  • Window fans would be a good idea.

"The cabin is a nice one and nicely appointed. The rental price is also attractive. The downside is no AC, and we were there in early August during a heatwave. Allen recently put ceiling fans in nearly all of the rooms, but on hot and muggy nights this mostly just stirs the air that's already there. The real key is window fans. We actually went out and bought three inexpensive 20" Walmart window fans late on the night we arrived (about $60). The outside air was 10 degrees cooler at 9pm, and in ten minutes the window fans reduced the inside air by that same 10 degrees. My relatives were shocked by how much more pleasant and livable the rooms became in just those few minutes."

  • Absolutely phenomenal!

"This chalet and property on the Laurel River is absolutely phenomenal for a restful, secluded break. The woods and river are truly quiet and peaceful. There's only foot traffic along the river during the daytime. The evenings are dark - free of light pollution, and the chorus of the tree frogs and cicadas, etc. at night is the only sound over the rushing of the river below. The home, itself, is the perfect balance of modern convenience and rustic character. We spent our days hiking the trail while hubby fished the river. It was lovely in the early spring so we didn't avail ourselves of the deck, firepit or grill because of the chilly weather, but this is as close to a perfect retreat as one can get - fully equipped for a great time in a sylvan setting! Hot Springs is a quaint town just a few minutes up the road on the Appalachian Trail, with eclectic dining and shopping. I can't say enough about this property and location - it is truly a hidden gem for folks that want some quality alone time with family/friends."
