About this property
The Cub (On The River)
We have a Log Cabin on the River for rent. This one is The Cub No Pets allowed in this one. Nestled in a picturesque mountain valley in Western North Carolina, our hand built cabin is located on the French Broad River, surrounded by the National Forest and the mountains that gave the Blue Ridge its name. Privately situated, our two-bedroom cabin has excellent views, with lots of wide open space around it, with meadows, mountains or water around it, the shady front porch is a favorite spot come rain or shine. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway you won’t find a nicer spot to settle in for a while. If an active outdoor vacation is more your style, River Lodge Log Cabins is a great place to come home to after a hard day of hiking, biking or rafting. Our riverfront cabin offers the perfect vacation getaway for couples of all ages, small families. The cabin has a vaulted ceiling in the main room, two private queen bedrooms with antique furnishings, and a bath with a shower in each bedroom. The large sunny kitchen includes a side-by-side refrigerator, a gas cook stove, a convection oven/toaster, a microwave, dishwasher, and a coffee maker, and has a comfortable dining area. The covered back porch has a hand-made swing, a roomy private hot tub and a gas grill in the yard. Other amenities include full linen service for 4, a satellite TV, Central Heat and Air and a gas fireplace (Winter Use Only). The cabin accommodates up to 4 persons. Our Hot Springs, NC cabin rental is conveniently located just a short drive northwest from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. We have safe, easy access year-round for all types of vehicles. Many guests will appreciate the large level parking areas. This is a log cabin we built ourselves. We used tongue and groove paneling on the walls and ceilings, and the floors are a fabulous mixture of colors of wood flooring. The metal roof makes music out of rainstorms! You’ll enjoy unique features such as handmade wood countertops and trim you just don’t get in “factory-built” cabins, plus the satisfaction of knowing that local labor and love were part of creating our cabin for your enjoyment, here by the riverside. About the host
Hosted by Mary Pangle

Ken, Dakota and myself (Mary) Pangle were born and raised in Hot Springs, NC and are active members of their local church (Zion Missionary Baptist). As owners of Pangle’s Construction, LLC, we are involved in road and bridge construction, site development and property management, as well as the River Lodge Log Cabins riverfront rentals. We operate a sawmill across from their home on Meadow Fork Rd., where we produce custom lumber, including some of the materials used in building our riverfront cabin.
While Ken’s out on the job, I juggle the joys of motherhood and caring for our home with the various office duties of the construction and cabin rental businesses — answering the phones, doing the bookkeeping, reservations, and managing the website. In addition, I oversee the cabin housekeeping & maintenance so I still enjoy spending time with my family.
Discover the beauty of Hot Springs — take a relaxing vacation at the "River Lodge Log Cabins". As lifetime residents, Mary and Ken know firsthand what a great place Madison County is to work and play, and they look forward to sharing it with you.

Why they chose this property
We built this cabin on this piece of property near my grandparents place. This property joins the River which a lot of places does not. We got into the vacation rental business for a income for our retirement and something to hand over to our son (Dakota).
What makes this property unique
Sit on the porch or sit by the river with the light sparkling on the water as the wind rustles the leaves, and wave to the rafters as they come by. Take a picnic to enjoy next to the river.
As the sun fades over the river, everyone can enjoy a good meal (fresh trout, perhaps?) cooked on the gas grill and a well-deserved soak in the hot tub. Try to stay awake long enough to watch the stars come out — the Milky Way can put on a big show up here!
Enjoy a scenic drive in any direction — we are surrounded by the National Forest and its natural unspoiled beauty.
Don’t forget your camera — you might miss a once-in-a-lifetime shot! Keep a lookout for the wildlife — deer, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, mink, groundhogs, otters, and yes, even black bears.
Bald eagles, kestrels, hawks, great blue herons, ospreys, falcons, purple martins, cedar waxwings, ravens, swallows, indigo buntings, goldfinches and an array of waterfowl can be spotted while sitting right on the front porch of your log cabin.
The large sloping lawn is a great place to enjoy the wide-open spaces — whether playing badminton, Frisbee, croquet (not supplied bring your own). In the evening you can sit by the fire ring, gaze at the stars or catch lightning bugs, dependent on age and inclination.
Walking out the door of your log cabin you can enjoy rafting, tubing and trout fishing, an easy stroll or bike tour down River Road, hiking or backpacking on the Appalachian Trail.
Cyclists will enjoy our two nearby mountain bike courses, or a quick run downriver to the Paint Rock Corridor (and the Tennessee state line) and back. River Road is coaster-bike friendly!
So many choices!
