  • Wonderful, attractive and cozy!

"We loved our time at Big Bear Pen. Bart was very helpful with questions and recommendations. The mountain house was cozy, well-equipped, clean, and just as described. It was truly a lovely and cozy place to stay. I would definitely consider staying here again and I would recommend it to others. One recommendation...the woodstove in the main room is great, but the usual wood (for fireplaces) doesn't quite fit in there. It would be good to either provide an axe to chop the wood shorter (My husband collected some wood outside, but the firewood one buys at the store is too long and needs to be chopped in half.), or to bring one. Other than this, it was a wonderful place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!"

  • Phenomenal!

"A new bar has been set for cabin/cottage rentals and the bar has been set HIGH! My wife, 2 kids (7 and almost 3) stayed in Willow Cottage (and please, call it a cottage - "cabin" does not do it justice!) for 8 nights at the end of April. From the moment we entered the front door, we couldn't get over details, furnishings, layout, grounds, etc., etc. My 7-year old daughter felt as though she were a princess in her very own castle and my almost 3-year old son loved running around the grounds. During the day, the back patio was the perfect place to sit and relax with a book while the kids played in the sandbox and backyard. Even with temps in the 80s (warm for our Ohio blood) we were kept cool by the roof, fan, and stone patio. And in the evening, we would light a fire and enjoy a glass of wine (just the adults). With the amount of activities to do onsite, we never felt the need to "get out and do something." We could wander up the hill for a hike, play by the river, fish, or play games in the huge fields. We cooked great breakfasts during the day, grilled out for dinner, and made plenty of s'mores. The dark night skies (NO light from any town) were aglow by thousands of stars and since I brought my telescope, we were able to get some great views of Jupiter and the moon. The location is fantastic since it's only about 15-20 minutes to Wayensville and other locations. Waynesville has some nice shops, art galleries, and restaurants (try Chef's Table - great food). We made two trips up to the Pisgah Inn (once for breakfast and once for lunch) along the Blue Ridge Parkway (only about 25 minutes away). The BRP is close and the drive is great. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this location. One of the best vacations we had in a long time. Thanks!"

  • Fantastic property!!

"The cottage is well taken care of! Plenty of room for your entire family, every thing works and it's very nice! 3 Bdr, 2 full baths...dinning room, complete kitchen, cable channels and Wi-Fi.. The property has a covered wrap around porch and rocking chairs.. For the money, this hands down is the best value in the area. The owner (Mary) provides you with complete instructions as to what may be turned off in the breaker and the location of the wood supplied for the outdoor fire pit! When I'm in the area again, we will definitely be staying at this property. It's only a few minutes from Brevard and a lot nice shops and restaurants. I forgot to mention that the cottage also has ADA access, lift ramp for the house and an ADA access restroom. If you want the feel of home away from home, this is the place for you! We enjoyed it and I'm sure you will as well. Respectfully, Rick Johnson"

  • Very comfortable rental for five people, great condition

"We were very happy with our stay at this property. It was as described and provided comfortable accommodations for our family. The location for us was perfect and we liked the remote feel. The only downside is that it is not very child friendly (we have a toddler) and there are steep stairs inside and out, windows very low to the floor we could not open (it is three stories up), and furniture (deer horn lamps) that we had to move. The garbage must also be loaded into your car and driven 5 minutes away, and no second rolls of toilet paper were given so we had to purchase our own. Other than those small inconveniences it was perfect!"
