  • Great cabin, excellent view of the river.

"The cabin was a great experience. I had my 3 sons and my 2 grandsons with me. Ages ranging from 3 years old to 31. The 3 and 5 year old enjoyed the bunk beds, the fire pit, and skipping rocks in the river. My 14 year old son enjoyed having Internet, playing checkers with his older brothers and grilling with me. My 2 older sons enjoyed the back porch, just watching the river and their sons playing outside. We took a hike in the Smokies and was able to see s black bear with her cubs. The location is great. It is a quiet area, very peaceful. My youngest son has already requested to go and stay at this cabin again."

  • A peaceful getaway!

"This cabin was great! Very cozy, very clean and with a nice view of the river. The sound of rushing water was the only sound around. We loved being on the “quiet side of the Smokies”! Warning to those not familiar with Townsend – most of the restaurants and shops are closed during the off season. You’ll have to drive to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg for much excitement. But the local coffee shop (Artistic Bean) and the grocery store (IGA) had everything we needed, including firewood. The only improvement we could think of would be adding some counter space in the bathrooms - the pedestal sinks are pretty but there is no place to sit anything. Our family had a great time here – we just wish we had a few more days to enjoy the peaceful getaway."

  • Sweeping mountain views and great Thanksgiving atmosphere

"We stayed at Bears Den Lodge this past Thanksgiving with 18 family members and had a wonderful time. The sweeping views of the smoky mountains are impressive when you first walk into the lodge. The floor to ceiling windows and expansive deck allow you to take in the full view. The property was clean with fresh sheets, towels and a few nice fall decor touches. They even had fresh flowers in the kitchen which was a nice touch. They did have a Keurig coffee maker, but it was missing a part and the other coffee maker was broken. After reaching out to Sarah, the owner, though, two property managers came and remedied the situation by going into town and buying 2 coffee makers. We were so thankful for their quick response and prompt return on the night before Thanksgiving. The bedrooms were enough for all of us and the kids got to sleep in the game room which they liked. They probably would have like a bathroom close to the game room, but there were plenty inside the lodge. We were thankful for the extra refrigerator and ice maker in the pantry. We would not have been able to cool all of our food without them. The stacked stone fireplace was gorgeous and the ledge around it provided a perfect resting spot to sit and take in the fire. The close proximity to the Smoky Mountains allowed us to drive into the park each day and go on long hikes and return to the comfort of the lodge. Unfortunately, the pool was not open and we didn't make plans to take in the golf course, but there was still plenty to do. Only a few things I would want to mention so that they prepare for the next guests is that the kitchen be stocked with better utensils and cleaned a bit better. There was no whisk and only one spatula. Since we were cooking several big meals, it would have been nice to easily reach for these things, but we found ourselves looking in every drawer and coming up short. The oven, while it looks nice in the photo, had seen better days and the cooktop could have used a deep cleaning. There was also a sippy cup left sitting near the top of the hood in the kitchen. It may have been that the cleaning crew missed a few details, but it did not affect our overall stay. All in all, I would recommend Bears Den to anyone with a large family wanting a great fall getaway."
