"My wife and I have stayed at several lake houses on several Texas lakes, and this one was a very pleasant find. This was our first time on Lake Whitney and the views from this property were just stunning! On the first morning, I made sure to grab my cup of coffee and head to the bluff overlooking the lake and enjoy my very own sunrise while listening to the birds singing and the water lapping upon the rocks. It was truly a Rockwell moment. After my wife woke, we got ready in a good sized master bathroom with double sinks and a separate tub and shower. My wife took a few moments while I was getting ready, and enjoyed a cup of coffee on the upper covered deck with access from double doors off the master bedroom as well.
After taking our time, we jumped in our jeep and headed into Clifton TX., which was a very pleasant drive taking just under 20 minutes to get there. The town was one of the many pure Texas historical small towns of about 3000 people, and we enjoyed an awesome county breakfast at Johnny's Place. We learned about the town and the restaurant from an informative notebook on a side table in the Lake House, filled with information on the surrounding area for those who may not be familiar with it. (Like Us) For a small town diner, we were surprised to find it packed, but after experiencing the hospitality and the incredible Texas county cooking, we figured out why! We even went back for breakfast the next morning! There was also a very nice Brookshire Brothers just up the street were we were able to get the items we needed to enjoy some of our own home cooking at the lake house.
A few notes about the lake house itself, access to the lake is via a steep stone walkway with a metal handrail to get you to the rock entrance to the water itself. Children and those who have mobility issues will need to be careful. As the lake house is heavily wooded around it (great for privacy), you can expect our favorite Texas tiny critters to be part of the welcoming committee. Make sure you bring some insect repellent or grab some at the Brookshire Brothers if you take my advice and visit Clifton while you are there. This is by no means a deterrent, as anyone who has stayed on a lake would be well aware of this.
Another huge benefit of leasing this Lake House, is the fact that the owner also owns 2 very nice Pontoon Boats that are available at very reasonable prices.
We will definitely be returning to the Lakeside Cottage"
