  • Beautiful farmhouse in a pastoral setting

""The Pie in the Sky" is a beautiful old farmhouse set in rolling hills north of Montpelier. The owners, Jay and Jude, have set aside half the house for guests, adding a number of luxury touches like a solarium, hot tub, and three-vent downstairs shower. They've managed to do so without letting the charm of the old rooms escape. Art and books abound inside. There's also a lovely small outside porch where we watched the sun set -- the views at the Pie and in the surrounding area are fabulous. Ducks and sheep added to the magic. The place is peaceful, high above a dirt road that doesnt boost much traffic. Despite the quiet, we found lots to do in the area, including wandering Montpelier, biking the ridge roads (had to pump our way up there of course), hiking the town forest, and appreciating the spectacular nurseries in the area -- Perennial Pleasures and the Vermont Flower Farm. The town of Plainfield is also a delight. Highly recommended; we'd love to return."

  • Perfect place of peace

"Our stay was too early for foliage and the local foliage festivals but instead we had beautiful warm air and breezes with cool evenings. It was wonderful to spend quiet time on the deck or dock or if it rained or was too cool, being inside was a pleasure as well. We've never experienced sunsets as beautiful as those from the deck. Our hosts made sure that the cottage was well equipped with anything we might need. The next time (and we are planning on another year) we know that except for personal things, there is little we need to take. We were able to enjoy great hikes and walks in the area. The glacial erratics are amazing allowing us to ponder how our earth evolved. Although there are plenty of places and things to see and do in the Northeast Kingdom, if you are looking for wide flat screen TVs, internet and cell service in the cottage, this is not your place. However, if you are looking for a place to re-create and find yourself and soul again, we recommend it heartily."

  • The home was very nice, cozy, clean and we had everything we needed. Gracious hosts.

"The home is very nice and clean; well decorated, roomy, well stocked and the manager is right next door. The owner/manager provided a Welcome Book with great information on local restaurants and attractions. Our only criticism was that the television didn't offer local networks and we are not familiar with the TV options that were available. The area has a little more traffic noise but we had the windows open and we slept fine anyway. Overall I would certainly recommend this home to anyone visiting the area. • CARA P.

"Laura, I cannot thank you enough, My family and I just came back from your beautiful cottage. We had the best vacation there ever. We fished a ton and caught a bunch of fish. My girls 11 and 7 had such a blast and caught fish. We went to Cabot which is so close and a maple syrup farm. I had my coffee on the screened in area. I fished while having coffee another morning. The cottage has everything you could possibly need including a k cup machine. It has a fire pit, a grill, a beautiful dock, you can walk to the boat place and rent a boat its about 4 houses down. It is the most peaceful place ever. The cottage has satellite tv and very comfortable beds. Laura I could go on and on, If I could give it 100 stars, I would. It is so private. We rented a boat and stopped in the middle of the lake to swim. There is also an amazing bakery down the street. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!! Save me a week for next year!!"
