  • PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!

"My husband and I had a terrific time staying at this cottage. We arrived on Dec 21, 2016 and checked out on Dec 26, 2016. The cottage was super clean was not a speck of dust anywhere. The bathroom was spotless. The bed lines were very clean as well. These are all things that I look for since I am a Professional cleaning person. This is what I do for a living clean houses. The kitchen was fully equipped with all the items that we needed. The Cottage is a very small and cozy. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all. The main house sits on the same property but honestly I did not even know if anyone was at home. Seeing the farm animals was wonderful and being able to feed the 2 cats we seen was a delight also as we was missing our 5 cats that we have at home. The mountain view is just wonderful. Very secluded and a great getaway for a man and woman. We will def be back in the near future. Thanks so much"

  • Fantastic Stay!

"Beautiful surroundings + charming, clean, and spacious lodging + responsive, accommodating hosts = a fantastic weekend. The Lodge was a perfect weekend getaway destination for our group. We felt welcome from our very first moment of arrival, as we pulled up the pebbled driveway for our first view of the Lodge, lit up with Christmas lights. The inside was equally charming and quite spacious - more than adequate for our group of a dozen adults to spread out and relax. The chilly weather (which we expected, as it was December in the mountains) kept us inside most of the weekend, but there was no lack of things to do: we enjoyed the hot tub, air hockey, foosball, and pool table, and the dining room table was perfect for board games (we brought some of our own, but the house also had several puzzles and games available). We were also impressed with the size of the movie and video game collection. The kitchen was very well stocked and labeled - we had brought some of our own cooking implements just in case, but found that the Lodge itself had pretty much everything we needed already. In short, there was plenty to do, and it was a perfect mountain weekend getaway for our group. Also, we want to thank Ed for being so responsive and flexible in all of our communications. He was a very accommodating and generous host: the instructions/directions he sent us ahead of time were perfect, and ensured that we had no problems whatsoever during our stay. We highly recommend a stay to anyone looking, and hope to make it back ourselves in the future!"

  • Great City Escape

"Great location for traveling to Old Rag. Secluded, and overall clean property. The home was completely renovated in 2010 and nicely appointed. Well stocked with basic necessities and full size appliances. We appreciated the ice maker and fire wood however there wasn't enough for more than 1 fire. The bed sheets did not appear clean with various hairs, but bathrooms were extremely clean! Upstairs bed is very uncomfotable and needs replaced. What would make this cottage even more comfortable would be a new bed and a small sectional downstairs for 2+ people to stretch out on. T.V. and DVD player were nice but we couldn't get the antennae to work after multiple attempts to get the local news/weather and a radio would be helpful. The pond was large and we saw fish jumping, a bald eagle and a heron. Could not find the trails on the property. Enjoyed the ride to Sperryville and a nice dinner at Thornton River Grille. They have a gourmet grocery store attached to the restaurant too with everything you'll need. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time at Maggie's Cottage. Great mix of relaxation and adventure"
