  • Comfortable home with an outstanding location

"My husband and I stayed 9/18 through 9/23. Had a very good time. The house felt like home as soon as we got there. The fishing at the lake was good in the evening and at night. Catfish abound :). Would definitely like to go back maybe with the whole family next year"

  • Wonderful respite from a chaotic world!

"Three couples and pooches hung here for a crisp November weekend. Air was crisp, nights were spectacular and bonds of friendship bolstered over fire, conservation, cooking and commiserating. Lovely place. We hope to return and repeat..."

  • Fantastic family getaway!

"Our family enjoyed spending time on the fabulous dock--fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding kept everyone busy and happy. We loved our visits from the deer, who we could see from the deck and kitchen window. The two levels in the house provided plenty of room. The downstairs with its separate entrance was nice for the younger folks who wanted to stay up a little later. We look forward to returning to Hatcher Creek Retreat next year."

"Our combined families from VA and SC came together for 4 nights for our annual Christmas get together at this wonderful home. The owner is exceptionally easy to work with, answers questions right away and works hard to make your stay memorable. When I mentioned we were coming together for Christmas, the owner said she would leave up the decorations as she had for the guests before us. What a nice touch to have a beautiful fully decorated home for our January gathering. The home is spacious and beautiful but also very comfortable and inviting. The layout is perfect for different activities and the design allows for amazing lake and sunset views. The hot tub was a daily hit as was the outdoor fire pit (lots of firewood provided). We brought our camp chairs to use around the fire but never unpacked them, the owners have plenty of seating provided and extra chairs in the closet. The dock also has a great layout with large table, swing, boathouse with equipment, paddle boat (which we used daily) and kayak. The nighttime fishing light is fun entertainment as it draws the fish towards it. The men played hours of pool, the kids played many of the board games and loved the play set outside, meal prep was easy with the well equipped kitchen and the sound system was a nice extra that was great for the hottub and even out on the deck. We loved the large dining table and having a fire in the double sided fireplace during our holiday meal. We watched six deer meander by the house one evening and a duck visited us on the dock. A very peaceful place indeed. The fact that there isn't WiFi turned out to be a blessing. Cel phones work just fine and if you have a smart phone you can still get on the internet. But we found that everyone decided to put their phones down and enjoy our time together. Our group ages 1 through 73 really made the most of the trip. This was our first visit to Smith Mtn Lake but certainly won't be our last. We all can't wait to return to this home for another gathering, maybe in the summer next time so we can enjoy more of what the lake has to offer. The owner really thinks of everything for a perfect visit."
