  • Lovely Historic, Top Floor Apartment

"We were two couples heading down to Lexington to enjoy some cycling, eating out, eating in, relaxing and also wanted to find a space in the heart of Lexington which reflected the beautiful historic homes, and had an eat in kitchen. The space is absolutely perfect for 2 people and great for 4 people if one couple is willing to sleep on a queen size pull out couch (we bought a memory foam mattress to put on the pull out couch and plan to bring it next time we stay there). The couch is located in a living room that has pocket doors so you can easily create two bedrooms by closing the doors which leaves the small, well appointed kitchen as common space. We were there in winter so didn't get the chance to eat in the lovely garden below but plan to go back next summer to enjoy it and even do some vegetable kababs on the grill. Peter and Jean were wonderful to deal with and even gave me a short tour of the even more impressive McDowell House below the apartment. The other reviews are 100% accurate with regards to the art (many of Peter's paintings), the wall paper, the furniture, the kitchen that you can cook in, and a great selection of books. We go to Lexington regularly and this will become one of our places to stay over and over again. We are really happy to have found it."

  • Bucolic Interlude

"We were looking for a place to meet with friends for a 3 day excursion and happened upon this beautiful 1820 farmhouse near Lexington, Va. This charming house has been kept true to its history, with some added features, such as a back porch and deck, a/c, etc. A long winding gravel road takes you through a working farm and the cows and other animals until you reach this gorgeous house. The house, itself, is well appointed, with just about everything you can think of that you'd need; then there is the artwork and historical certificates and plaques hanging on the walls of all rooms; and the views are amazing. For the more adventurous, there is an 1850 cemetery across the parking area and up the hill, but you have to scale a fence and make your way through the cows to get to it. The location is just about perfect, half way between Natural Bridge and Lexington. Every evening we enjoyed our cocktail hour while sitting on the back porch looking at the birds and animals and the grand vistas. We want to thank the owners and especially, Joyce, who made our stay so welcoming. As another reviewer mentioned, there are notes all over the house, explaining switches and other features to make it easy to stay there. Next time we come to Lexington, we will definitely try to stay here...again, thank you so much for allowing us the privilege of staying here."

  • Time stands still

"This is perfect if you are looking to stay in a quaint, historical home. Town is only 20 minutes away but the property is so secluded. The stream is within walking distance. The owners went above and beyond to welcome us."

  • Perfectly cozy and stocked on a beautiful property.

"It is obvious that the owners put a lot of love and detail in their backdoor cabin. There is no amenity missed and they strive for the comfort of their guests. We stayed for four nights and never left the property. We spent our mornings kayaking on the small pond (perfect size for my 6 year old to be independent), zip lining from the tree house (only sized for the kids), and hiking by the creek and up the mountain. We spent our afternoons with a visit to the hot tub, playing boards games (all provided), and checking out the cabin's library of movies. Our evenings were around the fire enjoying each other and the setting. It was exactly what we wanted for our little vacation. Thank you to Kathy and her family. We are very grateful."
