  • Interesting property in a small town

"Booking this property was straightforward with all communication being quick and easy, including a change to our dates - thank you Vernell. Finding the property was straightforward and our stay was enjoyable. We liked the open plan layout of the main floor, but we didn't really use the lower floor - it did seem quite dark and a little less welcoming. If you like your privacy be aware the bathroom opens directly off the main living area. There was lots of local information available, as well as games, books and magazines. Also a starter breakfast pack - thanks again. We loved Nutters ice cream - as did many locals! I needed more time to try other flavours. We also ate at Captain Benders tavern and had good food and service. There is a lot to see in the area - particularly if you are interested in the civil war. We were a little disappointed in the C&O canal - we hadn't realised it was completely disused and dry (although there is a small section with water at Williamsport). Harpers Ferry is definitely worth a visit, and we also caught a concert at the Western Maryland Blues Fest in Hagerstown. Overall a successful trip"

  • Can't wait to return

"We just returned from an amazing time at this chalet. As everyone else mentioned, the views can't be beat! The deck, hot tub, and view are perfect, and we loved how quiet it was there. The inside was very comfortable also. We barely used the living area, but the couch seemed comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, and I was grateful for the thorough and accurate descriptions of what we'd find so we knew what to take with us...and take what you need because it's a trip to get to a grocery store. The downstairs bed was comfortable and the bathroom was as nice as described. Erika and Tim were extremely responsive before our stay and also when we had trouble locating something in the chalet. They contacted us right away to make sure everything was good. We went during the week, which made it especially quiet on the mountain. We didn't see anyone on our hikes, and The Woods golf course was pretty empty and a great deal...lunch there was good also if you don't want to fix all your own meals. As others mentioned, I wouldn't want to share this space with anyone who wasn't a close friend or family because the bedroom areas aren't very private, but it could be great for a family as long as you don't have young kids (the stairs are steep). As described, there's no internet (which makes it more of a getaway), and our phones (Verizon) didn't work well either, but good enough to get a call or email out when we needed...with a little patience. This is a true getaway, and we had to extend our stay by a day because we really didn't want to leave! Thanks for sharing your little piece of heaven."

  • Home away from home!

"From my initial contact with Sandy and Brian regarding renting The Lookout, I knew we had found an ideal vacation spot. Sandy and Brian are such thoughtful and hospitable hosts; the enjoyment and comfort of their guests is clearly a priority. The house itself was immaculate with everything we could possibly need, and immediately felt like "home." During our stay, nature treated us to many beautiful sunsets enjoyed from the deck; each one different than the evening before. We visited both Antietam (the CD tour provided by Sandy and Brian was wonderful), and Harpers Ferry twice, did some local antiquing, and highly recommend a trip to the Boonsboro Museum of History. Only open on Sunday afternoons in the summer, we spent a solid couple of hours with the proprietor, Mr. Bast, who has a most extensive, personal collection of Civil War relics and memorabilia as well as antique firearms, china and glassware, and artifacts from ancient civilizations around the world. Our visit with Mr. Bast was a definite highlight of our trip. Only two things were lacking during our stay at The Lookout ~ WiFi, (which wasn't a big issue, since we just went to the local library several times to "check in") and more time to enjoy the house and all the area has to offer. Thank you, Sandy and Brian, for providing your guests a lovely place to stay while exploring a most critical time period in our nation's history."
