  • Getaway : return trip

"Went last year in august- came home and Immediately booked 2 weeks this august. We just returned. Love the central location to Duluth- Apostle island seashore, Ashland and with a little streach: Bayfield. The cabin is quite remote, but their are several other cabins on the other side of the river in sight, and canoeists passing by. Wifi is very good. We watched the olympics nightly- reception was great. Last year we never really turned on the TV. Water is pristeen clean 63 to 65 degrees. Canoeing is great. The best canoe needs some TLC soon. We mentioned it to the caretaker and would bet that it will be attended to timely. The semi- dated cabin is really clean, and the caretaker maintains it well. Very peacefull setting. Kitchen and whole property is very well equipped. We were there for the last day of the meteor shower- Cloudy night- otherwise we would have had a nice show. If we don't spend our next summer vacation canoe camping the Namekagan or Fambeau, we will probably return again. Two weeks was so much nicer than one."

  • Perfect Family Cabin

"Everyone from the 4 year old to the grandparents agreed that this was a great family getaway. The cabin is very well equipped and clean. There was plenty of room for all 8 of us to have some private space as well as shared time all week. We enjoyed the remoteness and safety of the area, as well as visits by eagles, loons and hummingbirds. One huge bald eagle even perched on a log in the firepit. The boat launch was not far away, and the dock made for easy access to decent fishing and daily water play with the many toys. The swimming area was safe for the kids and the water remakably clear. Communication with the property owner was easy, and responses prompt and courteous. We would recommend this property to our friends and family and to you!"

  • Perfect! Clean, super comfortable, beautiful location

"After 30 years of hit and miss lake cabin experiences - this one was finally JUST PERFECT! The well appointed, wonderfully private, and nicely updated log home includes it's own sweet little inlet and a great little beach for embarking in kayaks to explore a secluded and quiet chain of deep, small lakes. Very comfortable and clean beds and furniture, plenty of table lamps for the readers in the bunch. Well stocked kitchen - not one unpleasant surprise. Not ONE! We'll be back! ...P.S. Only 10 minutes from Birchwood - highly recommend the Paul's Pizza Den there - the smoked baby back ribs are amazing, and the Bear Bait dessert is scrumptious!"

  • A Perfect Getaway

"This really exceeded our expectations. We saw the pictures on the website and thought, wow, it looks nice. Then when we arrived, it was even nicer than the pictures. A group of 11 of us spent 3 nights at the barn. There were 4 couples and 3 singles. Each couple got their own bedroom and the singles shared the upstairs loft bedrooms. It worked out perfectly. Plenty of bathrooms and beds. A few of us work in restaurants cooking/bartending so we made lots of elaborate meals. There was plenty of equipment and supplies to cook for 11 adults easily...once we figured out the trick to the cooktop. (ask the caretaker) With two refrigerators, there was plenty of room to store the food. Tons of firewood for the fireplace, hot tub, sauna and fire pit. We used all of them. Even with 11 adults, there was plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing, or hang out together. And, splitting the cost 11 ways made for a very cost effective getaway. There's movies, classic video games, ping pong, shuffle board, board games, trails and lots of books. There is no wi-fi and cell coverage is spotty...so you have plenty of excuses not to do any work. :-) Highly recommended."
