  • You Won't Want to Leave!

"My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and could have easily stayed another 5. The home is immaculate! We were shocked at how clean it is, and how much attention the owners put in to every detail to ensure their guests will have what they need. The river is mesmerizing, the wildlife abundant, several times we commented on how quiet and peaceful it was. We originally planned to do some sightseeing in the area, but once we got to the home we decided not to leave! We will definitely be back!!"

  • A Great Week Was Had By All!

"Our family of 5 adults and dog spent a week at the Spider Lake cabin in mid-June 2016. As others have said, the pictures don't do the cabin justice. The very private setting is perfect for relaxing on land and lake. There are also lots of ways to expend as much energy as you want as well. Some of our folks said they felt they were staying in a tree-house. We heard the ATVs only a few times and generally things were very quiet. The house is very well stocked with all sorts of necessities and extras, such as dishware and other kitchen supplies, linens and towels, comfort seating and table seating throughout, power outlets everywhere, some great DVDs, candles, flashlights, and more. Some of the things we especially liked were all the swim toys, paddle boat, kayaks, hummingbird feeders, books/brochures on birds, lakes, and area attractions, ceiling fans, hooks everywhere, plenty of hot water, calls of the loons, fire pit and more. Despite my advanced age, I had my first authentic S'more at the fire pit - fantastic! There's a special rack of S'more supplies at Gary's Grocery in Birchwood. We had great luck with a couple of meals out - lunch on the deck at the Hungry Minnow in Birchwood, the Friday fish fry at Prop's on Long Lake (ate outside on a night with a beautiful sunset), and lunch at Angler’s in Hayward. In terms of wildlife we saw many deer (be very alert when driving), a bald eagle, turtles, loons, hummingbirds, orioles, and something like a muskrat. We heard tons of birds and on a couple of occasions an apparent pack of wolves (very far away!). The cabin had a limited supply of bug spray - be sure to bring some - the biggest annoyances were mosquitos and flies. The water level on the Spider Lake chain was great. We were able to kayak from the cabin (lake #1) all of the way to lake #5. On a calm day, it's a relatively easy trek. Was one of the best things we did all week. We found the Marketplace Foods grocery in Rice Lake to be excellent (there is one in Hayward as well). The adjacent liquor store has everything you could want - loads of craft beers. There's a good vet in Rice Lake if you need one (Rice Lake Animal Hospital). The owner was very responsive to all our questions - responding in less than a day on all counts. The property is very clean and we highly recommend it to others."

  • Get away from it all

"Ann's home is truly a refuge away from the hurried pace that my husband and I usually live. It is about 25 minutes to the nearest grocery store in Ladysmith. Renters may want to stop at Woodman's in Eau Claire before coming to the cabin, but Gordy's and Walmart in Ladysmith have most things that you will need. The home is beautifully decorated, comfortably furnished and well-stocked. It was roomy and a perfect place to have some quiet down time or to gather with friends/family. I love cooking, bird watching and enjoying quiet music while reading - the home was perfect for all of these. The loft was perfect for watching movies that we had rented at the RedBox at Walmart in Ladysmith. The best antique store that we found in the area was on the main drag in Chetek. While relaxing at home, we saw many deer, Baltimore Orioles and hummingbirds fighting over the nectar at the hummingbird feeders, bald eagles over the river and even an osprey! The only disappointment was that the advertised hot tub is no longer for renter use. Ann was delightful and responsive to our needs. We are grateful that she shared her home with us."
