Why the Owner Chose Grass Valley

This was our family home. My husband and I built it. It is not a "kit". He designed it and with a good bit of "blood, sweat and tears". It was built with the care of the quality craftsman that he is. We raised our son here. He grew up playing in the creek and hiking in the woods. He is now 22 and with the economy the way it is, renting this home to nice folks helps us finance his education. It is a lovely home in a lovely location. We hope you enjoy staying in it as much as we enjoyed living in it for all those years. Diane Stevenson (OWNER)

The Unique Benefits at this House

I love the creek and hiking in the woods. Follow the trail across the creek and up to the top of the property where you will enjoy a spectacular sunset. Walking into the house is like something magical. It really is a unique and special place to spend some well-deserved downtime.

B
Bridgeport State Park on the Yuba River

Historic Covered Bridge on the South Yuba River. Great beaches and swimming hole. Great for picnics or hiking the miles of trails along either side of it.

C
The Independence Trail

Wonderful hiking trail just out of Nevada City that is wheelchair accessible. Hike one direction back to scenic pools and waterfall and the other directions to scenic views of the Yuba.

D
Edwards Crossing to Perdan Crossing

Hike right along the Yuba either from Perdan Crossing to Edwards or the other way around for spectacular views of the river and secluded swimming holes all along the way.

Owner's Map of Grass Valley

Cozy cabin in the woods

Guest: Monica (Sunol)
Date of Stay: 12/02/11 Review Submitted: 12/08/11

Our family has stayed in the log house 3 times over the last few years and it has always been a wonderful experience. The house is so well kept and cozy! There is a lot to do in the area and we have really enjoyed the hiking, shopping, dining, and exploring. We travel quite often and like to rent houses as an alternative to staying in a hotel with our family and we have found this house to be extremely well stocked and very comfortable. The homeowner has a complete kitchen, games, and movies for you to enjoy which is wonderful because the house is so cozy you won't really want to leave. Our son even chose this house as the place to spend his 16th birthday because of the wonderful memories we have here! Thank you to Diane for keeping such a wonderful place to visit.

Special Place

Guest: JR (Watsonville, CA, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/11/11 Review Submitted: 10/09/11

We chose this property because of the location, the stream, the hot tub, as well as how the house looked in the photos. We found everything we were looking for and more! Photos were accurate, and we found house even better in person. We really appreciated the specialness of the log construction and the attention to detail...lovely window placement, sweet reading loft...more. [Note: The property is in a residential area - the backyard leads down to the stream and there is open land on the other side of the creek, but there are neighbors on both sides of the house]. Though we really enjoyed getting out to the beautiful places in the area - along the Yuba River, up to the lake country near Sierra City, hiking various trails - for us a big part of what we are looking for in the one week we have to get away, is a comfortable space to spend time in and relax. Satellite TV and wireless internet really work for us, as does a daily soak in a hot tub.We like to stock up and cook in, and the kitchen and country style dining table worked great for us (We did stumble upon the India Oven in Grass Valley. If you like Indian food, they had a great buffet, served Fri - Sun). It was only two of us, and we loved having space to spread out, but it would be a great place for a family or group of friends. We had a fun evening of ping pong in the game room. For me, however, the most special by far was the stillness in the early mornings and the gentle sound of the stream running through the night. Diane obviously cares for her property and takes care of those who come to share it. We appreciated it and all of her help! We would highly recommend the house to others...and definitely hope to return in the future.

Owner response:It is my intention that all my guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay in my vacation rental homes. This log house was our family home and I love it and I love sharing it with others. I have set it up so that it is a comfortable place for a vacation or just a weekend away from the city! I hope I will have happy and satisfied guests for many years to come. Thank you all!

"Best vacation house ever"

Guest: NO nickname (North Bay Ca)
Date of Stay: 08/03/11 Review Submitted: 08/12/11

From the mouth of a seventeen year old who missed all his friends - in the beginning. Our stay at the log house was the best because there was so much for all of us to do even if we never left the property. Having the swimming hole, rope swing etc was made for our adventurous grandsons. The beds were comfy and we had privacy inside the pleasant bedrooms. The only quirk was the road construction on Rt 49 but that's California in the summer. Got to get it done before the snow flies. Surrounding Gold Country was barely explored because there was so much to see. We'll be back!

Owner response:This house comes with much of its own charm - the fact that is a log house, the expansive decks, the creek, the swimming hole, the hiking trails, the big back yard, wild turkey and deer wandering through, the moon rising over the hill behind the house. Add to these gifts, the hammocks, the rope swings, the SPA, the jacuzzi bathtub, the rec room, ping pong, numerous games, books and videos, the BBQ, the sand beach..... This is one great house in which to vacation! Enjoy!

Grass Valley Wedding Base Camp

Guest: Dan (Davis)
Date of Stay: 05/20/11 Review Submitted: 06/04/11

My wife and I and eight of our closest friends used this house as "base camp" for a weekend when we we had our wedding at Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley. The place had plenty of room for everyone and a great big kitchen for us to cook breakfast in. Unfortunately, my wife and I were so busy with the wedding that we didn't have time to enjoy the hot tub, the beautiful creek in back, or the ping pong table in the basement. Our friends had a great time sitting by the creek and swimming in it. Overall, this is a beautiful and roomy place to stay for those who are willing to drive 15-20 minutes to Grass Valley and there are plenty of fun things to do right at the cabin.

A weekend get a way

Guest: Mujeres (Sacramento)
Date of Stay: 04/09/10 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

Mujeres Ayudando la Raza Spent the weekend there and we had a Blast. The cabin was clean with plenty of room for 7 people and more. There is a map of trails you can go on. Jane and Diane are great!! They have two dogs who are amazing and will go with you on the trails to lead the way. The deck has plenty of room with a BBQ grill. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to have a good time and likes being out in nature. It is a great place to stay you won't regret it!

Owner response:Actually, this review is for my other vacation rental house. I didn't realize that the guest had sent it connected to the link for my log house and not my Gold Run Mountain House. I am trying to get this moved to the proper place but am told that it can only be moved by the person who sent it. It is a great review of my property http://www.vrbo.com/140231 not http://www.vrbo.com/140245, So pleased to have happy guests. It is my intention that all my guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The trails are an added adventure if you are inclined to hike. The trail head for the Pickering Bar trail is about 100 feet from the end of my driveway. It is a 2 mile hike to the American River. There is a gorgeous rock outcropping where you can stop to rest along the way that allows you spectacular views of the American River Canyon. The river is a great place for a picnic, a dip in the pools, a photographic experience and more. ....or you can go down the other part of the trail to an old gold mining area - also with fabulous views, a pond, a very cool tunnel, an old miner's cabin, a waterfall (in spring).... The spa on the deck and the hammocks allow for wonderful relaxation after a day of hiking. We enjoy having guests out here. We are available if you have questions, but are very conscientious about allowing you all the privacy you want. This property is in a very quiet and private location. Please enjoy your stay and come again!

Perfect Log House

Guest: Kristina (Annandale, VA, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/20/10 Review Submitted: 12/22/10

Diane went out of her way to accommodate our extended stay. Thanks to her, we were able to keep our family together during a temporary military assignment. The furnished log house had all the amenities that we could ever need and more. Diane had a genuine concern for our comfort and her customer service was outstanding. When one of the hammocks broke in the backyard, she quickly replaced it even though it was not a serious issue for our family. Her beautiful and quiet Alta Sierra log house provide us with the perfect home away from home.

Owner response:Thank you Kristina and Tyson for this glowing review. It was a genuine pleasure meeting you and your children and an even bigger pleasure having you at my log home for the 2 1/2 months that you were staying in the Grass Valley area. You kept my home in excellent condition and left it in excellent condition. You would be welcome back at any time.

super awesome log home

Guest: Jimmy Jimson (El Cerrito)
Date of Stay: 09/10/10 Review Submitted: 09/20/10

My friends and I had an incredible weekend at the log home for a special occasion. The first night, we played ping pong late into the night and had the best time. All the amenities were in order: lots of towels, great kitchen, clean hot tub (that gets HOT if you like it that way), great deck, and a beautiful backyard next to the creek. Lots of notes to let us know how certain things in the house work, etc. -- this was all a good representation of the thoughtfulness that these owners put into their rental. Highly recommend.

So wonderful we couldn't even believe it

Guest: Mitch (San Leandro, CA)
Date of Stay: 02/05/10 Review Submitted: 06/24/10

The house was extremely nice, open, inviting, clean, well maintained, and had plenty of room for two full families. The kitchen had everything we needed. The dining room table seated the 7 of us easily. The furniture in the house was very nice and attractive, and yet sturdy enough we weren't concerned about our kids harming any of it. The owner was wonderful and helpful and made sure the place was well stocked with everything we would want and then some. The location was fantastic. It was close to Grass Valley where we enjoyed visiting the Empire Mine State Park, found plenty of decent food to eat, and a good size grocery store too. The stream out back was lovely and inviting and the kids spent a lot of time in it and panning for gold. It was a fantastic way to spend our spring break. Well worth the money.

Our church used this property for a men's leadership retreat and found it to be very accomodating for our group of 9 men. The guys loved it. Plenty of room, sleeping quarters were great, and the big harvest table was nice to for meals and for some of our business meeting time. We will certainly come again.

What an awesome getaway! Plenty of room for a family of 5 (and puppy) to spread out; all the amenities of home. We used the house as a launching pad for day trips to the American and Yuba Rivers + gold town in Grass Valley. Thanks Diane for a wonderful place to stay. ~ Brian, Cyndi, Darryl, Evan, Austin, and Maile (our Aussie).
