"Southern Breeze" an Oceanside Luxury at Debordieu Colony

Year Purchased: 1992

Why the Owner Chose Georgetown

DeBordieu is a private oceanfront residential community of exceptional quality, encompassing 2,700 acres of ancient oaks and pines, tidal marshes and creeks with access to the Atlantic Ocean. Located on a quiet stretch of South Carolina's coast between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, DeBordieu is near everything and at the same time a million miles away.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The climate is perfect! Spring and Fall temps average in the 60's & 70's, Summer - the 80's and 90's. The Club's Championship golf course has been nationally acclaimed as one of Pete Dye's best. The colonial style clubhouse is spectacular and the ten-acre Beach Club has an oceanfront pool, gazebo bar and several dining options. With eight clay courts(four lighted) two hard courts and a comprehensive pro shop, few communities offer comparable tennis facilities. As for the younger crowd-kids can enjoy a variety of fun activities at our youth center.

Owner's Map of Georgetown

Early in our lives, we vacationed at the beach in rental and family homes. In the 1990's we bought property and have created countless family memories of our own. We built our permanent home on the coast in 2004 and we enjoy it each day.

We stayed at Southern Breeze in August. The house is beautiful inside with plenty of room for all of our families. We loved the elevator...it was wonderful for my 89 year old Grandmother and allowed her to move throughout the house with ease. However, we had problems with the air conditioner keeping up. A maintenance worker came by and attempted to fix it but unfortunately it didn't ever get repaired. Also, the ice maker in the refrigerator did not work. Unfortunately, there was mosquito infestation problem at DeBordieu that week. We couldn't walk outside for two minutes without being eaten alive. All of us had numerous bites all over. When we went to the community pool, everyone was talking about the mosquito issue. Finally, at the end of the week, mosquito planes & trucks came to spray. Things got a little better then. I can see how DeBordieu would be a great place to visit if just a few things had gone a little better. Southern Breeze was a very nice house but I doubt we will return.

Owner response:We very much appreciate the review and would like to respond given the fact that we are in our 20th rental season at "Southern Breeze." The positve comments are welcomed and we certainly look forward to your reconsideration of our home when you realize the impact of a direct lightning strike on Monday, July 25. Significant damage involved the replacement of the upstairs (main level) a/c unit and repairs of the following: elevator, security system, televisions, internet service. All of these issues were addressed immediately and repairs were made within the week...all done while renters were in our home. At the time we were not aware that lightning had damaged the lower level (bedroom) a/c unit. It had been serviced when the upstairs unit was replaced. In fact, the a/c contractor verifying that it was sustaining the appropriate cooling levels was likely the "maintenance man" to whom you referred. Several weeks later the unit stopped working and was replaced within the same week. We desire that our guests enjoy our second home as much as we do. We will continue to make every effort to ensure an outstanding experience.

We are having a heavenly week at Southern Breeze! Your home is as beautiful as it is comfortable! We have enjoyed peaceful walks on the beach and many hours finding nature's treasures - spectacular shells, an abundance of starfish (which we kept tossing back in the ocean), and silly crabs. The wildlife at DeBordieu is abundant - birds, fish, alligators, deer, turtles, etc. We took tons of amazing photos! Of course the golfing in this region is another huge draw for us - we enjoyed at least 18 holes every day!! We are absolutely in love with Southern Breeze and our goal is to return every year! Well, the beach is calling me again, so off I go! Thank you for sharing your home!!

We can't say enough about your beautiful home! Three generations were never in each other's way. Everything was perfect and we enjoyed every gorgeous day on the beach and elsewhere. Thank you for your suggestions on Frank's Outback! Your generous supply of dishes, etc. were so appreciated. We hope to return.

We had a lovely week in your comfortable home. We played golf and tennis every day so we are ready to return to our cold country full of energy. Thanks for sharing your property with us.

Our vacation to SC with family has been so enjoyable - your lovely, cozy home has made it possible for us to stay together "as a family should be." Thank you for the opportunity. We're here from Texas, NC, and SC. I noticed the Rotarian magazine on the coffee table. I, too, am a Rotarian from Weatherford, TX. I'm a third generation Rotarian. I served as President in '97-'98. Our club is around 115 members. Our family stayed in Kiawah Beach four years ago in another Rotarian's home. I saw it advertised in the R magazine. We.ve fished, walked on the beach, played games, assembled jigsaw puzzles, laughed, cooked and ate - good family time, I'm the mother of these two sons on the east coast. Seeing them once a year really isn't enough (and my adult grandsons). Again, it's been great. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful very comfortable home with us for our annual family vacation together. We had three "going into third grade" grandchildren-all who enjoy crabbing, hunting for shells, and the beach. This is third generation of going to SC beaches in the summer. This is our 2nd year at DeBordieu & we love it. Thanks again for your hospitality!
