A great retreat for a small get-together, fishing or snowmobiling trip, Yellowstone vacation, corporate retreat, or couples getaway. Whispering Pines, located 45 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park, sits on 2 acres of heavily wooded pine trees in an easy-to-access, out-of-the-way subdivision.

Island Park has so much to offer the outdoor person. The cabin is off Yale-Kilgore Road about 7 miles west of Idaho Highway 20. Peace and serenity surround the lodge. Over 3500 square feet provide lots of elbow room here. The two-car attached garage is uncommon for rentals in the area. Relaxing on the peaceful, large deck surrounded by the woods finishes off the day of enjoying outdoor activities, geological wonders, and wildlife.

You'll see reflections of the forests and wildlife in the decor and comfortable furniture throughout the cabin. The living room has views of the woods and features a massive floor to vault natural river rock gas fireplace.

Main Floor: Master BR, reclining sofas & chairs: The living room features a massive 2-1/2 story natural river rock fireplace with a large wrap-around hearth, comfortable reclining sofas and chairs, and two doors leading out to the deck. A wall-mounted HD satellite TV/Blue-ray disk player is handy for news and entertainment.

The wrap-around deck holds two six-foot picnic tables, lots of deck chairs, a child's bench, and two gas barbeque grills.

The kitchen has an open floor plan with wood floors, most cooking supplies, appliances, cookbooks, and staples. We hazard to guess this is best-stocked kitchen you've seen in a vacation rental. So you won't need to haul or buy most seasonings, sweeteners, dry goods, oil, foil, things to boil. Bring your own canned goods and perishables. (There are small full-line grocery stores in West Yellowstone and Ashton--both about 35 miles north and south, respectively.) Four built-in bar stools and dining area to seat 10.

A wide variety of books, brochures, and magazines are located throughout the cabin: the local area, wildlife, recreation, cooking, condensed novels, fact books, travel, childrens and teens books, inspirational, poetry, history.

The main floor master suite is the 'River Room' and has a private door to the deck. It features a king-size log pole bed, private bath with a soaking tub and a separate glass shower, and double sinks. Another bathroom with a shower (no tub) is handy on the main floor. Laundry facilities are also on the main floor.

Second Floor: two loft areas, three themed bedrooms: The open balcony area on the upper level offers views of a nearby mountain and great lounge and conversation seating looking down on the living room, the rock fireplace, and into the woods--wonderful retreat for reading, games, visiting, contemplating the universe, daydreaming, or napping. Bedroom two (the 'Bear Room') on the upper level has a queen-size log pole bed and room for a crib, cot, or airbed (all available in the cabin). Bedroom three (the 'Moose Room'), also on the upper level, has another queen-size log bed and a queen sofa bed. Bedroom four (the 'Buffalo Room'), on the upper level, has a full-size log pole bed and features a bonus loft with a set of twin-size log bunk beds. All rooms furnished with dressers and seating; the Bear and Moose rooms have closets.

Bonus room: entertainment, games, satellite TV: The recreational room above the garage is the 'Yellowstone Room': a large space decorated with a wall quilt and photos of Yellowstone and the Tetons and equipped with an entertainment center--VCR, DVD player, satellite TV, game console--foosball table, a full-size futon, sofa, love seat, two recliners, plenty of floor pillows, an air bed, custom log board game table, and lots of floor space for games and gathering. You'll find in this room a loft area (the 'soft loft), a large choice of games (from Monopoly and Yatzee to Twister, crocodile golf, and brain games) videos (including Yellowstone, wildlife, & family videos), puzzles, and books, a white board, for a variety of entertainment options. There is even an old sewing machine if you want to stitch a bit.

Cell-phone service may not be available in the cabin depending on your carrier. So you can truly 'get away' if you want. (Stepping outside may improve your signal; the metal roof may interfere with interior reception.) NO internet or land telephone connection is provided at the cabin. There are local businesses that may provide internet capabilities.

More extras:
A few small toys and stuffed animals, Lincoln Logs, etc., are available to keep the younger ones occupied. Lots of towels and extra sheets and blankets and warm throws fill the linen closet and cabinets. Some sweatshirts, light jackets, hats, gloves, ear warmers, hiking packs and poles are around the cabin in case you want to enjoy the cooler mountain evening air or want to take a walk around the neighborhood or in the Park. You can peruse gazeteers of the trails in Idaho and Montana, road atlases, area recreation pamphlets and brochures, log home magazines, etc.

We make sure you'll have plenty of napkins, paper towels, tissue, cleaning supplies, detergents, hand soap, shampoo, body wash, hair dryers, cuddly blankets, iPod players, night lights, kitchen wraps, foils, bags, tablecloths for in and out.

A firepit out in the woods is fun to sit on the logs and cook marshmallows, some-mores and hotdogs, quiet night firesides with memory and story sharing, and warming up. There is usually an extra cooler in the garage and a fishing pole or two. Within a few miles is Stoddard Mill Pond, a stocked pond for children.

When the snow is gone, we often see deer within several feet of the cabin--especially in the early evening and morning, huge owls, squirrels, chipmunks, marmots (rock chucks), grouse, bats, robins built a nest on the deck, chickadee, sometimes a mountain bluebird or hawk. While walking in the neighborhood we've seen moose; the neighbors have spotted bears in the north meadow, elk, and foxes. We hear coyotes when out in the evenings at times. Each month of the spring through fall, different colors of wildflowers show in the woods. You'll discover some great photo backgrounds just by the cabin or in it!

No, we don't have air conditioning, but rarely need it. We are at about 6,300 feet above sea level, and it cools down significantly every night. Although sometimes in July and in August, the high temperature may be in the 90s for a couple weeks, the nights can be 40 degrees cooler. The cabin has several ceiling fans and additional portable fans and heaters. The main floor has central heat with an auxilliary propane unit in the living room; the second level has in-wall individually-controlled heaters in each room.

During snowmobile season, we keep the driveway plowed and attempt to keep the walkways cleared. You can sled out north from the cabin into the neighbor's meadow (with permission) then northwest to Yale-Kilgore Road leading you to hundreds of miles of groomed trails. The driveway has sufficient cleared parking area for your trailers and trucks. Some of our guests back in the driveway to unload trailers beside or in front of the garage.

We have a new county home occupation permit, which ordinance was implemented in 2011 governing short-term rentals, and are in compliance (or beyond) all requirements for safety, health, capacity limits, neighborliness, and hospitality. We, therefore, have been required to lower our capacity even further to 10 people. You'll see we in-turn, lowered our year-round rates also.

Please, NO SMOKING ANYWHERE on property. No pets. No snowmobiles in garage.

The Whispering Pines Cabin was a perfect place for a large group. We all had our own space to retreat to when needed, the decor was warm and welcoming, and this has got to be the most thought-planning, well-stocked place I have ever came across in my travels; from the filled kitchen pantry and the luxurious sheets and towels to the many amenities throughout the house. Thank you for sharing this lovely place.

Owner response: Providing this cabin for your relaxing and enjoyable get-away and positive, exceptional, life-long memories is our mission.

This cabin is amazing! It is clean and beautifully decorated. The fireplace is amazing. Our kids loved the loft bunkbeds, and the big family room. The kitchen had everything you could need for cooking. The scenery is so peaceful and relaxing. You will not go wrong if you stay here! We had 6 in our group and this cabin was so large that you couldnt even hear the kids upstairs playing. This is a great family cabin with lots of toys and games for kids and adult alike. We will be back this summer. The Carroll Clan

I needed some time to relax and took my family up to The Whispering Pines cabin. We loved the garage for unpacking. From the moment of entry into it's knotty pine wood decor, we felt we found that peaceful cabin feel we were looking for. Each room brought more awes and excitement as we experienced the nicely decorated wood furnishings. The kitchen was furnished which made it easy to walk right in and start our vacation. The floor to ceiling fireplace was not only stunning and enjoyable from both floors, but soothing to sit next to and relax. Having a Gas BBQ available was great! Sitting out on the wrap around deck brought me that peace I was looking for. The bedrooms were all well decorated with their nature themes. The master was lovely and it had perfect access to the hot tub. One of our favorite places was the upstairs family room. This room offered us diverse entertainment, from Board Games, a DVD player and a Foosball Table. There was plenty of room for all our family fun. The outdoor fire pit would have added to our stay, but we just ran out of time to use it. I had a lovely time and told my children they would have to drag me away from there, kicking and screaming, in order to get me to leave. I had found the peace and serenity that I desired. Our family pans on coming back to this lovely cabin. Thanks, Charlene, for this great opportunity. Paula Ashcraft Pembroke Pines, FL

Owner response: Thanks so much; we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We welcome you to come visit us again soon. Through the fall of 2011, we are offering a free iPad with a two-week+ booking or an iPod for a one-week+ stay for any time this year. We are always looking to improve our guests' experience. We recently received our permit newly issued by Fremont County after successful inspection and fulfillment of new ordinance requirements. That's why we've had to reduce our maximum capacity to 10 people for a very large 4-bedroom property. (Plenty of room in the square-footage; it's the septic drain field that's restricted us.) We've also reduced our price and made it $300 for each night no matter what time of year. As always, though, we provide more than almost any cabin in the area. This truly is your HOME AWAY from home!

Everything about this cabin, from the stocked kitchen to the clean bedrooms and well kept property exceeded our expectations. Beautiful place to stay and the pictures here don't do the cabin justice. I highly recommend booking a stay here.

Our trip to the cabin Feb 2nd thru Feb 6th was incredible. We booked off the web site and pictures provided of the cabin (which were beautiful). We arrived as planned and was just amazed by the cabin and the accommodations that are provided with the cabin. It was more than we expected and are still simply amazed with the beauty of this cabin. Normally when someone say’s that it is stocked with dishes, spices, towels, etc. you are disappointed. However in this case, WOW there is a ton of everything supplied as far as even board games. We have rented cabins in the area before and this one is definitely the very best. The kids (grown up kids ?) had a riot playing foosball and having tournaments. Snowmobiling was also great. We will definitely be planning another trip. Charlene was great to work with booking the trip.

Stayed there in July with more than a bunch of family and friends with room layout, space and accommodations for all. Our kids were safe and yet had a great experience inside and out. There is no drywall in this cabin, this is a real log cabin with great huge stone fireplace 2 stories tall inside. Highly recommend it!

This was our first stay at the Whispering Pines (January, 2010). We will definately make this our winter vacation home for now on, we return to Island Park annually for an extended stay. The Whispering Pines is a gorgious cabin, it is very obvious the minute you walk through the door the owner takes great pride in their home. The location is great for snowmobilers, a little off the beaten path but gives you the privacy you want and the convenience of accessing the Island Park or West Yellowstone trail systems. I highly reccommend this cabin to anybody thinking about staying in Island Park. It is definately our first choice and we have stayed in several different cabins within the Yale-Kilore Rd area throughout the years. The Whispering Pines has all the comforts of home and beauty too. This is a beautiful cabin with enough room for your ENTIRE family without it being loud and tripping over everyone! It's quiet and the beds are very comfy! Of course the Bear room is the best! My family has stayed here many times and we always have enjoyed the area. Make sure you go to Big Springs!!!
