Ubud villa description
Holidays in Bali don't come any better than having your own place to stay in the traditional village of Ubud, away from the big hotels, in a genuine friendly Balinese environment.
You will love the comfort and convenience of our new house, Paper Lotus. It's spacious and airy, comfortably furnished in contemporary tropical style with Balinese touches to remind you of its exotic location. You are only a moment away from the outside world via high speed wireless internet but you can choose to keep it all at a distance as you walk through ricefields untouched by the centuries and hear the distant sounds of the village musicians practising.
The living areas overlook the pool and bale and over household temples to the huge trees lining a near by river. Evenings are especially peaceful sitting outside in the balmy temperatures of this hill village, away from the bustle of the streets.
You will be looked after by Ibu Figo who will make sure everything is comfortable and can also arrange for meals to be brought in from our best local warungs. You can also opt to cook in your own kitchen, or go out to one of the nearby restaurants. Figo can help with this or Dewa will pop in for a while in the evening to see if you need anything.
The beds are very comfortable and roomy and each bedroom has its own bathroom with hot water rain showers, two of them being partly open to the sky. The main one has a bathtub with a pillowed headrest to use when reading or relaxing. All bedrooms overlook gardens or private courtyards.
If you need a car and driver we can arrange that and also to pick you up at the airport. We look forward to welcoming you to Paper Lotus very soon.

A perfect place to stay in Ubud
A perfect place to stay in Ubud
We loved our week at Paper Lotus! The home, pool and yard were immaculately cared for by Figo, who also cooked a delicious breakfast each day. The photos do not do this place justice. We felt like we were in our own private paradise. Downtown Ubud with its restaurants, shopping and dance shows were within walking distance. Our driver Gusti made each day so easy and convenient. There are not enough superlatives for our experience in Bali.

We stayed in the Villa Lotus Paper one week and we have spent wonderful holidays. The house is beautiful, well furnished and the location is good (10 - 15 minutes walk from Ubud center). The housekeeper and her family were very nice and helpful. I strongly recommand to stay here.

Owner response: I'm so pleased that you had a good time and enjoyed staying at the house. Ibu Figo is a treasure!
Very disappointing experience.
Very disappointing experience.
We rented this three bedroom villa in June 2011. However, when we arrived we found another family in residence at the villa. We were allocated two bedrooms in the villa, but the third bedroom was located in the separate staff quarters and was a very low standard. Meanwhile, the other family were situated just through a flimsy door in the villa so there was absolutely no privacy. We were also expected to share the "private" pool with the other family. Given that we had booked and paid for the whole villa, it was completely unacceptable. In our email exchange with the Australian owner, there was no mention of sharing the villa or of the bedrooms not being in the villa. After a telephone call to the owner, who didn't offer any solutions, we ended up having to urgently scout around Ubud for three hotel rooms in peak season. The owner refunded our deposit but that did not make up for the expense we incurred in last minute bookings or the time we lost on our hard-earned holiday. It was a very costly experience and we would highly recommend other travellers avoid this villa.

Owner response: This lady had asked us to allow her to rent 3 rooms for only 2 nights (which we don't normally do - minimum stay 3 days). On arrival she had already decided not to stay when we spoke. I had already explained that I had a guest in one of the rooms (not a family) and that the third bedroom available to her was on the top story but the bathroom for that room was on the ground floor. The room measures 6x3.5 metres and has a new queen spring bed and base, lamps, storage etc and an outside terrace with a magnificent view over the nearby river and ricefields. We have no live in staff (as mentioned in our listing)so there are no staff quarters. This is a guest bedroom, making the total of 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms that we usually have available. The connecting door between the two living areas of the house is 4 cm thick solid wood. The request was for 3 rooms and never at any stage mentioned exclusive use of the house and pool. This lady later regretted her decision to leave once she found that in Ubud there was no other comparable accommodation available for this price, as she later mentioned in an email. We had kept the space available for her for the rest of the two days in case she wished to come back.

Peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The warm days and evenings are ideal for a dip in the pool.We immensely enjoyed the spacious house with great Balinese furnishings. Comfortable bed and ensuite, everything spotless. All provided to make a meal or watch movies. Why would you cook? Marvellous food can be brought in from local restaurants and small warungs, and it is very cheap. We hired a car and driver or walked back from the town centre, passing interesting people and sights. Mini bus tours or hiring a driver and car can take you to many sights. The owners were most helpful in planning day trips and suggesting where to eat. Ubud is well known for its art, craft, spas, monkey forest and shopping. The locals are very friendly and we felt very safe. A fantastic opportunity to enjoy a new culture, even if it was only a week.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at Paper Lotus for 10 days and had a fabulous time. The property was gorgeous, and they looked after everthing beautifully. We ate out most nights because the local restaurant scene was so welcoming and there were so many places to try. There was a short walk to the main part of Ubud which helped to walk away any excess calories! We would love to go back. The local people were very friendly, and having our own space to return to at night was lovely. The bathrooms were heavenly, and sitting outside eating fresh fruit for breakfast - we loved it all. Highly recommended.

About the owner: After many years as a teacher in various countries, I came to Bali about thirty years ago and never really left! I started teaching people here to make handmade papers from pineapple and banana fibers and turned it into a business. We still do that and of course that is why paper features in the name of our house. I love the simple life here and getting to know Balinese culture. As well, in Ubud I have the chance to meet people from all over the world who come here to this village. From time to time, I go back to Australia where I was born and have my family. I feel so lucky to be able to know and love Bali.
Why the Owner Chose Ubud:
After living in Ubud for so long in rented accommodation ourselves, this house came like a lightning bolt to us! One wish and suddenly it was ours. Of course it came with a lot of hard work and effort too but I count this beautiful location as emanating from the famous magic of Bali. You will feel it when you are here too.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
There are so many things to do in Bali and especially around the area we live in. Walks through the rice field or along village roads are always interesting and refreshing to the spirit. Enjoying the tranquility, so far from the hustle and bustle of western life, sitting out in the bale with a drink with your loved one, family or friends. Get to know Balinese life and culture from within a Balinese village. Restaurants and quaint stores abound in Ubud. Artisans work in timeless ways to create unique works of art in silver, wood, bone, cloth and other materials. They are happy to meet you and discuss their work. Ubud literally means 'medicine' or 'healing' and you will find many traditional healers here, working through massage, herbal medicine or magic. It is easy to meet them and interesting to observe how they work. Not to mention soooo relaxing. I know you will enjoy this special place!
