The apartment in Soulard was absolutely perfect for our weekend. We arrived a little early, and the owner offered us our choice of the two apartments since another renter had canceled at the last minute. After looking over both apartments, we opted for this one because of the appeal of the nook beds. Both apartments look amazing and offer a TON of space. The three of us shared the bedroom, and there was so much room, we could each have personal space as needed. The weather was rainy all weekend, and the owner took extra special care that we had severe weather instructions, flashlights, extra bedding, and umbrellas. She went above and beyond! The location is ideal for accessing the highways, downtown, etc. We were able to walk to the Soulard Market if we needed snacks or food to make a meal, and it was a short walk to the Lafayette Square area. A short drive took us to the Tower Grove neighborhood for a great selection of restaurants, too. There are stairs to the apartments and in the apartments, so you will want to factor that in if stairs are an issue for you or anyone in your travel group. I would definitely stay with these owners again. Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a *wonderful* experience above The Porch. The first thing we noticed was the wonderful, spacious kitchen. And so many kitchen ammenities -- it felt like home. The fireplace in the kitchen/dining space was beautiful. The feel of the space was just right for us: very open with high ceilings, well lit with great sun streaming through beautiful old windows. A large, comfy bed in a large, spacious bedroom. Beautiful bathroom with both a walk-in shower and a large tub. The place was in very nice condition and very clean. The owner was lovely and personable. The ability to have a relationship, brief though it may be, with the owner is one of the best things about "home stay" opportunities like this. Only minor suggestions for improvement might be... * the couches in the living room provide a nice aesthetic, but aren't very comfortable or practical. * a coat rack or hall tree (and maybe a nice boot-tray?) by the door would be nice. All-in-all -- a *wonderful* stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

The apartment was as described and the area was great. The owners were easy to deal with prior to and once we arrived. Had a couple of small issues but they responded quickly to them. I would not recommend this to anyone who has trouble with stairs. I was traveling with my parents, in their 70's, who found the stairs to be a bit much after several days. But this was my error not the owners as they has sent me pictures of the stairs etc.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Soulard! The apartment was spacious, clean and at a perfect location! We walked downtown and to all the local restaurants daily. The people of Soulard are so warm and friendly. The restaurants are excellent with two ice cream places very close (that's why we walked alot!) The Soulard Market is right next door with wonderful produce at a very reasonable price! We will refer this to many of our friends and will return again! Thanks so much to Kathy and all the locals who made our stay so personable and enjoyable!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We recently had friends get married in the St. Louis area. If you are interested in the sights around downtown and the Soulard area, this apartment is really a no brainer. You're practically next door to the Soulard Farmers Market, Bogarts BBQ and all of the great night life that Soulard has to offer. You're also a short walk to downtown, Busch Stadium, the Arch and the Budweiser factory tour. The apartment was clean, bigger than we expected and the pictures are accurate but don't do it justice. Working with the owner was a breeze and everything went with out a hitch. I would recommend this apartment to anyone that is visiting St. Louis and wants to branch out from staying at big hotels. We couldn't be happier or more satisfied with our stay at the Soulard Apartment, it was great!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks for the review! We loved having you, and hope you come back soon.

My wife and I have stayed at this location two times now and we love it. It is spotlessly clean and very spacious. The host and hostess know all about the area and are truly wonderful folks. The Farmer's Market and Bogart's, both right across the street, were 2 of my highlights. Soulard is a very vibrant area and most things are in walking distance. I have already recommended this place to friends and will contnue to do so knowing they will be as impressed as I have been.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Parts of this building pre-date the civil war. After purchasing the building in 2004, we spent several years renovating the building to meet historic standards. We opened a wine and gift store with a wine patio on the first level. The second level consists of 2 seperate 2 story apartments, the larger of which we rent for short term rental.
Why the Owner Chose St. Louis:
We love the city, especially Soulard, but live in the county. The apartment is a wonderful city getaway for us. There are great restaurants as well as music everynight of the week, from an Irish session to jazz and blues....all within walking distance.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
We can walk to a Cardinals game, bike to Illinois on the the Great River Road bike trail, shop at the oldest farmers market this side of the Mississippi, dine at top notch restaurants and listen to some of the best blues & jazz anywhere in the midwest. All in one neighborhood. We have stocked the apartment with information on some of our favorite restaurants, bars, and shops.
