This neo classic beach house sits on a tidal pond with the most beautiful beach on the island at the end of your driveway. You don’t need a car, as it is just a short walk to the ferry dock and town. A post and beam house with loftlike spaces, the downstairs has a kitchen/living/dining area and French doors opening out onto a covered porch oceanside and a back deck with water views.
The master bedroom, with king bed and huge en suite bathtub, looks out to sea with a private balcony. The Green Room has a queen bed and its own balcony, while the Birds' Nest has four twin beds, two up a ladder in a loft. Two rooms share a separate bath with walk-in rain shower. Grounds are complete with outdoor shower, lily pond, lawns for croquet, water toys, rowboat, goldfinches and pheasants. Wifi but no TV! Laze in hammocks and rediscover peace and love. Sleep to the sound of the waves.

Very nice house with room to spare for our eight. Location is perfect for walking to town, ferry, beach, restaurants, salt pond docks, and most Island restaurants. Perfect place to stay for a trip without a car. Great views of ocean, salt pond and small fresh pond in side yard. Can be combined with cottage next door (same owner) for an extended family outing.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Tnx so much! We try to make improvements every year but really no improvement can be made on the location. . .

My family and I have been coming to Block Island for more than 30 years, and this was one of our best weeks on the Island ever--in large part because Hannah's Hideaway was a very comfortable house that made us feel right at home. Opening the French doors at the front and back of the house made us feel like we were living outside--there was a "hot porch" mostly in the sun and a "cool porch" in the shade. It was awesome to be able to cross the road and be at the beach, and walk 10 minutes and be downtown. All in all, one of the best rentals on Block Island.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Tnx for the lovely review. My daughter Hannah and I keep trying to make it better every year. But we can't really boast that much, because it's location, location, location!

Just returned from an extended Girls Weekend at this wonderful beach home. There were eight of us, and we had plenty of room. Comfortable beds. Great casual decor with fun details. Everything you needed was on-site. Outdoor shower was great. Location cannot be beat....walk into town in less than 10 minutes. Right across the road from the beach. Claudia was very accommodating and welcoming. She was available if needed and never intrusive. We had a fantastic trip. A great house for families, friends, reunions. Note: WiFi is weak as it's coming from the adjoining rental home next door. **Overall: highly recommended!!**Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Tnx so much! Glad you had a good time! True that DSL is pathetic. However, not just because of weak signal—pretty iffy islandwide. Worse in the fog, too.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: A former journalist (People, Life) and now vacation property owner/manager on Block Island, once known as Claudia's Island, Claudia Glenn Dowling has honed her bedmaking skills and seldom travels without a truckload of substandard chairs. You can Google me at Claudia's Surf City.
Why the Owner Chose Block Island:
I ran a surf shop, Claudia's Surf City, in the summers long ago. With my brother, a skilled carpenter, we converted it into a cottage. When my daughter got married, the family expanded, and we built Hannah's Honeymoon Hideaway, a post and beam house. Our first guests came in 2006, and we continue to improve Hannah's Hideaway every year, polishing it, if possible, to a brighter sheen. It is now the sine qua non of simplicity, functioning as perfectly as a beach house as a shell for a nautilus. You can see more pix and videos in links on Claudia's Surf City
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Though on the beach and close to the ferry dock and town, you can retreat to a private world that feels far from mainland cares. After even a weekend on Block Island you feel as if you've had a wonderful break from reality.
