My perfect vacation
My perfect vacation
I have been to Italy several times over the past decade, and this house is my idea of a heavenly vacation. It is perched on a hillside cliff (volcanic tufa below), fresh air, sunlight, cool breezes are bountiful, delicious prepared foods are a stone's throw away. There are no cars so it is very quiet. Given the location (and I had a car) it is easy to explore the nearby towns (Orvieto, Viterbo, Pitigliano), go for a swim at Lago Bolsena, or stay home to read, cook, and lounge on the lovely terrace. I am fussy when it comes to cleanliness; thankfully the house is clean so I did not have to spend a day cleaning. The owners have an arrangement with a local woman who does a good job with the upkeep. It is quiet and comfortable, cotton linens, clean towels, clean fridge. Everything was in working order, the kitchen and bathroom are a nice blend of old and new. Civita is an unusual place, and tourists (mostly from Italy and Germany, it seems) walk up the footbridge to stroll around the small town, take photos, buy a postcard, sit, eat, and bask in the peaceful sun. They come and go during the day. I rented a car for my road trips and local shopping. The town nearby has all I needed, bread, meats, cheeses, and a larger super market as well. Most times, however, I just strolled up the street to eat at one of the several bruscheterrias, and restaurants, all owned and managed by a few local families who have lived there for generations. I am already planning my next trip, with two friends, so they too can enjoy all that Civita has to offer.

Pure Beauty and Inspiration
Pure Beauty and Inspiration
I am a Songwriter from Switzerland and I desperately needed some new ideas. So I decided to check the internet for a nice place to find peace and isolation. This house was the best decision I can imagine. I had more output here in a couple of days than in several months at home. The place is full of good vibes, you feel every moment that it was made by an architect who wanted to create the perfect hideaway for himself and his family. The house is bigger than it looks on the pictures, an antique three storey palazzo situated in a village that is like a journey to a medieval dream, on top of a hill with a stunning view. It has enough space for up to 6 Persons, a bright living room with a fireplace, a cozy kitchen and an incredible terrace facing the bridge and the fantastic landscape. The interior design is very tasteful and made me feel like home immediately. It was very clean and well-maintained, everything was easy to find. Cinzia, the person who was there at my arrival to let me enter the house speaks very good english. You can get an acceptable mobile internet connection in the house if you want it. Civita has some nice restaurants, outside of the season open during daytime, in summer in the evenings as well. There are some tourists, but at night you can sit on the piazza completely by yourself, just accompanied by two or three cats. The landscape is absolutely unique, the beautiful Lake of Bolsena and the medieval city of Orvieto are just 15 minutes way. In a bit more than an hour you can drive to Rome, to the coast or the hot springs of Saturnia. I would recommend the place to every artist who is looking for positive new ideas, but also to lovers, young families or friends who want to spend a great time together completely escaped from all the rush of everyday life. Three days after coming home I booked it again for my next holidays.
