Guestbook comments from the owner

We were very pleased with our stay. Mary was very nice! We were greeted by Ron and Mary who showed us around and had a huge bowl of snacks waiting for us. Our stay was very nice. We had lots of fun and enjoyed our time here. Mary knew we had kids with us and really put us at ease by being very understanding of kid behaviors. She also was so kind to bring us a Pack and Play for our one year old grandson. We didn't even have to ask for it. The beach was fun, the backyard was great and we loved seeing the wild turkeys. We would definitely come back!

Perfect for large family.

  • 5 of 5

We came to Couer d'Aline for a reunion of my husband's family. Since our immediate family doesn't get to spend a lot of time together, I wanted a place that would house the 10 of us (including 3 small children) under one roof. I also wanted to be walking distance to the lake and at least one park. It's like we won the lottery.

It also had a large, fenced yard which worked very well for the larger family get-togethers-an additional 30 or so people for dinners and games. This was so much better than going to a commercial venue: we were able to cook in the spacious kitchen (which had plenty of utensils and pots and pans, etc.) and seat everyone around the several tables on the deck and patio. And the kids had plenty of room to run around.

There is a small beach a couple of blocks away and Mary kindly provided beach chairs, towels and floats. Downtown and McEuen park are within a mile. Trails on Tubb's hill are also only a couple of blocks away.

Mary made sure that we had everything we needed: a pac 'n play for the 2-year old, detergent for the washer, shampoo and body wash in the bathrooms, snacks and drinks available when we arrived. She also very graciously allowed us 2 extra hours to check out.

In summary, I would say that the property more than met our expectations and needs. I would definitely recommend this for a large group.

Know what you are getting

  • 3 of 5

We recently visited Coeur d'Alene for a second time. This time for a mini family reunion with 12 people. While overall we did enjoy our Coeur d'alene visit, the accommodations with this rental, however, are a mixed bag.

PROS: The owner Mary was very helpful & hospitable upon our arrival. We appreciated the coffee beans, donuts and porch candles that she provided on our first night. The mattresses on the beds throughout were comfortable. The location of the house was a perfect spot. Minutes to Sanders beach, Tubbs Hill and a 10-15 minute walk to downtown.....especially with the street fair going on the weekend that we were there.

CONS: significant amount of deferred maintenance. Chief among this list is the back deck that is rotting in several locations. Decorative outdoor mats covered a good portion of the deck but we had to lay various objects on the deck to signal areas to avoid so no one will step through the rotting boards. Loose stairway handrails, appliances not working and wear & tear throughout the house was noticeable.

As noted in another recent review, the overview of the house should more clearly call out that 3 of the beds are in the basement with no windows or door exits, only via the stairwell. One of the smoke detectors in the basement was not working so we replaced the battery to help give us some piece of mind despite the potential risk.

Again we did appreciate Mary's hospitality and the fantastic location of the property.

We did share our feedback with the her upon our return home but did not receive a reply back. We rented many homes via VRBO & airBnB and this is the first time we felt compelled to write an online review so others can be informed of what they are getting/renting prior to arrival.

We love the town of Coeur d'alene and hope to return again someday soon, but will find another home next time.

Restfull week

  • 4 of 5

We did our annual family vacation and decided to go to Silverwood. Our family size is 13, so it is hard to find affordable accommodations for that size. While the house is older it had enough room for all of us and a nice back yard for the children to play in. We were concerned about the deck as it was "mushy" in some areas but were covered with rugs. Our main concern was the basement area where there were beds for 5 people. There is no access out of the basement in case of fire. We did call and talked with the owner about this and also told her that there were only a couple of smoke detectors and one was not working. She did have someone come over immediately with 4 detectors and we installed them throughout the house, which we appreciated. So...my main criticism of the house was access out of the basement in case of fire and maybe should be advertised as sleeping 8 with 5 more beds as an option because of the exit situation in the basement or make that known up front as we felt had we known, we probably would have found another place to stay because of safety..

Very clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house was so welcoming on arrival: all basic supplies in place; lights on; entertainment on. It made for a very nice late night arrival!

Everything about the house was comfortable as well: the back deck, the bedding, the furniture. And don't forget the interesting art collection. Location as well: historic neighborhood, close to lake, golf at the Resort and the downtown. We'd love to return.

Great location - older house with large patio

  • 3 of 5

This house is older (somewhat dated and in need of some repairs) but fairly spacious, clean and in a GREAT location. The back patio we thoroughly enjoyed (10 of us) as it is very pleasant and quite large. You can walk to the lake (public beach), in to town, or to the Tubbs Hill hike from the house - no driving necessary! The location - for us - pretty much made up for the minor disappointments with the house. Mary is very helpful.
