Location excellent; property management poor

  • 2 of 5

Nice apartment, clean, adequately supplied with necessities. Location is excellent - short walk to the beach or boardwalk and 1 block from Rehoboth Ave. Property management was poor. When I signed the rental agreement, the documents clearly stated that 1 off street and 2 on-street parking permits were provided as well as linens and bath towels for the unit. Four months later I received an email stating that only one parking space was available and linens would have to be paid for in addition to the charges already agreed to. I pointed out the discrepancy with the signed rental agreements, but was told nothing could be done. I also noticed that the size of the beds given in the original description was also incorrect - 2 of them were smaller than advertised. When we arrived, we were given one on-street parking permit after complaining via phone. Also, the day before we arrived, we were told the washer was not working, but would be fixed. At the end of the week when we checked out, the washer still had not been repaired. Property management was unsatisfactory.

Great overall

  • 4 of 5

Great location, very convenient to boardwalk and beach. Also nice to have pool, beach chairs and umbrella available. Great condition, clean, nice deck. Couple downers- said it came with 2 permits for on street parking but apparently there are none. Rental rep let me use his personal permit (that helped) but still needed to pay for another one at $70 for the week. Also no grill as described. Little confusion on sheets and towels being included but again rep covered it so all good.

Location, location....plus room to breathe

  • 5 of 5

Blue Horizon is the 4th rental property my family has stayed in over the past 5 or 6 years, and it will be our go-to spot for coming summers. The location cannot be beat: it is located right in the heart of Rehoboth Beach. We loved heading down to Jam (the restaurant on the first floor of the property) every night for happy hour and snacks. There was a bit of restaurant-related noise, but nothing that was actually disturbing to our sleep or good time.

The space itself worked well for my family of 4, with 2 tweens. The spiral staircase would make it inappropriate for young families, or anyone with mobility issues, because there's a LOT of going up and down those steep stairs. The third-floor space is airy and comfortable, and the top deck is a great place to catch a sea breeze. We generally ate in the kitchen, because it is a pain to schlep food and drinks up the spiral staircase. The entire unit felt very fresh and clean this summer, and it is furnished simply and comfortably, without cramming rooms full of furniture. As someone who is most relaxed in a minimalist setting, it worked for me.

Speaking of the kitchen: with a little digging, we found everything we needed for breakfasts and picnics (we ate all our dinners out, around town). It is very well stocked with gear (yay! Blender drinks!), but completely devoid of the staple foods I generally have found in rentals (salt, pepper, maybe some cooking oil, maybe a bag of coffee). Keep that in mind when you stock up on beach food. You'll also want to bring your own knives, if you care about such things. You know who you are.

We loved having the chair/umbrella service included in our rental, and did use the pool once or twice.

The criticisms we had of the space were mostly due to our own preferences: we'd have loved an outdoor shower to help with sand management, and we wished for a significantly firmer mattress in the master bedroom. Other than that, it is a nice balance of space, amenities, and value.

Blue Horizon was a charming home base for a wonderful week at the beach. We'll be back!

Blue HORIZON cottage was a home away from home for our family. We had a wonderful stay.

The location could not have been better. The town and boardwalk were great! Would never had guessed a restaurant was below us. The deck perfect, very private.

Suggestions, repair sidewalk to entrance stairs, make level, towels and linens to be in house upon arrival, silverware drawer should be more sturdy.

The house felt like a home not just a rental.
