Escape to this private, charming, up north cabin overlooking 8th Crow Wing Lake

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Enjoy this thoughtfully detailed lake cabin for your summer getaway. All the amenities of home but with the slowness and charm of the north.

Perched on the crest of a hill overlooking 8th Crow Wing Lake, the views are stunning, peaceful, and ideal for bird lovers to observe nature in action. With expansive windows in every room, you can enjoy the outdoors from the light filled comfort of indoors. Or sit on the large deck and take in the hum of motor boats, loon calls, and humming birds zooming by. You will feel refreshed as soon as you walk in the door of this well loved cabin.

The property has much to offer. With one neighbor separated by woods, you will feel secluded and away from it all. A winding pebble path leads you down to the lake, where you'll find a large dock for swimming, fishing or just sitting with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. There is a public boat launch on the opposite side of the lake and guests are welcome to tie up to the dock. Back up on top of the hill, take advantage of the large fire pit and yard activities, like bag toss (games provided).

Bring your bikes and explore the Heartland trail. Our favorite tour is from Akley to Walker, it's a beautiful stretch of the trail and Walker has a downtown with lots of shops and parks that are fun to explore. Another great day trip is to start in Nevis, bike to Dorset for a treat at the Dorset House, famous for their ice cream sundays, then end back at the Iron Horse in Nevis for delicious BBQ dinner.

No matter what your pleasure, we think you'll have a great time getting to know the cabin and the area. We would love to share this special place with you.

About Katy Dale

I grew up spending my summer at this cabin while my dad built it from the ground up! This was truly a labor of love for my mom and dad and was their get-away for 25 years. My mom is no longer with us and my husband and I have taken over the cabin. I'm an architectural designer in Minneapolis and we spent 2016 fixing it up into a true retreat, now with modern conveniences like a dishwasher (so excited!) and large water heater (no more 1 minute showers!). We love the process of making homes beautiful and functional and feel rewarded when others get to enjoy that work. So we decided to start sharing the cabin so you can make this your special retreat too, and hope you will fall in love with it and keep coming back so we can continue to make improvements for all of us to enjoy. We look forward to sharing this unique place with you.

Katy Dale purchased this cabin in 1985

Comfortable home, great views

  • 5 of 5

The endless windows offer beautiful views, the eagles flying overhead were a delight, as were the herons and gulls on the lake. Comfortable beds and a cozy hangout spot in both the living room and downstairs family room. The kitchen was well equipped but hot in the summer, so we spent all our time on the deck, grilling, eating and hanging out. We loved the kayaks and the kids enjoyed wading, swimming, and playing with tubes in the lake. And we got a good workout walking up and down the steps to the lake. Thank you for sharing your thoughtfully and beautifully designed home!

Big Lake

WOW! What a beautiful lake home.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at many different cabins over the years but this one was voted our favorite.Impeccably furnished and decorated with comfortable living room furniture and super comfy beds.Katy and her family did a beautiful job renovating their lake home.

.Our Grandson loved playing in the loft .We enjoyed the lower level with foosball ,darts and assorted games.

We caught our limit of bass which thrilled my husband and son-in-law.

We loved seeing the eagles soar overhead and hear the loons at night.

We thought the 55 (our grandson counted) steps to the lake might be a problem but it was a gradual climb and turned out to be just fine.

Katy was very easy to work with and we appreciated all the information she had in her welcome book. We hope to be back again next year .

Thanks Katy !

The place was as presented on internet. Very comfortable and relaxing.

The walk down to the lake and back was the only drawback, but We are in our 70's. It was not a big issue for our children.

Would consider renting it again next summer.

Perfect Lake House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this lake house in early July. The weather was perfect, and the house was top of the line! Everything was clean and in order and very comfortable from the bedding, towels, the shower - everything! There was wifi, netflix, dvd player, etc. The beach area was nice and sandy (no weeds) and perfect depth for young children. You won't be disappointed if you rent this cabin - the owners have thought of everything! As the other reviews indicate, the steps down to the lake could be an issue if you have mobility issues, otherwise, not a problem at all.

Fantastic rental

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week at this cabin. We all had a fantastic time. The kitchen has everything you should need or want. Plenty of games and activities provided. One thing to note that I did notice was the cabin does not have air conditioning. Most days it was just fine, but our last day was near 100 degrees. Hot, hot, hot!

We would definitely stay here again if they would be willing to have us.

Great cabin!!

  • 4 of 5

This was a wonderful cabin supplied with everything you could possibly need on vacation!! I was even able to get my "nerdy" teenage boys to fish and kayak. Very comfortable beds and nice linens. However, there are a lot of steps down to the lake. Wasn't an issue for us but could see it being an issue for others. Thanks for a GREAT week!!

Nevis, population 301 and home to the worlds largest Tiger Muskie, is just over a 5 minute drive from the cabin. Lot's of small town character to enjoy - Pop'n Chop's Bakery is the newest addition but get there before they sell out! Muskie Waters is a cute coffee and candy shop, The Iron Horse is our favorite BBQ dinner spot. They have a great patio that is bursting with energy on a hot summer night. Nevis hosts the annual Muskie Days, usually at the end of July, with all kinds of activities great for families.

There are many other activities to enjoy in the area. Head up to Itasca State Park, about 45 minutes from the cabin, where you can walk across the Headwaters of the Mississippi! This is a must see! Itasca also offers bike and boat rentals to explore the park, picnic areas and playgrounds.

Golfers can enjoy any of the 5 courses within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. Many offer discounted Twilight rates which can be a beautiful time to be on the course.

Forestedge Winery is a mere 25 minutes from the cabin and is a great way to relax away the afternoon while learning how they take advantage of the fruits Minnesota has to offer.
