Remodeled 1935 Craftsman Cottage with Hot Tub and Private Yard
My home is located in the heart of San Diego, just North of Balboa Park in an area called North Park. I am within walking distance to bars, craft breweries, restaurants, and shopping. The beach and downtown are just a short 10-minute drive away.
The house itself was fully remodeled in 2012, yet kept some of the characteristics of the period when it was built. The walls are rounded in the living room of this 1935 Craftsman home.
Outside the home
There is a large private yard, Caldera Hot Tub, and great outdoor space, complete with a BBQ grill and patio table that seats 6 for dining outdoors or a comfortable outdoor sofa bed perfect for lounging around in the afternoon after a full day of exploring.
Inside the home
The kitchen is full of light, central to all activity throughout the house, offering an enjoyable cooking experience. The kitchen is well-equipped with all of the tools you’ll need to create a delicious meal and there are even four comfortable counter stools at the breakfast bar where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee.
The kitchen opens up to the living room, where you’ll see a a dining set, adjustable to either table or counter height, that seats four. Pull over a couple of counter stools for a rousing card game or plop down on the newly added sofa (sleeper) and set-up a movie night with the 42” mounted Roku TV with DVD player and surround sound system! Choose a great flick from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, or the selection of DVD's, and whatever you do, don’t forget the popcorn!
Bedroom 1 is located just around the corner from the living room. It features a queen-size bed, a ceiling fan, a spacious walk-in closet, dresser, night-stand, and a door leading out to the backyard.
Bedroom 2 also has a queen-size bed, a closet for you to store your belongings, and a bookshelf with some classics for you to enjoy during your stay. Both bedrooms have plenty of natural light streaming in so you won’t miss out on a second of that San Diego sunshine!
The bathroom is next to bedroom 1 and features luxurious stone flooring, granite counter tops, dual sinks, and a large walk-in shower.
To get to the spacious backyard, go through the door in bedroom 1 and you’ll find the perfect place to hang out on a sunny day! You can cook up some juicy burgers on the gas grill and enjoy them at a glass-top table for 6. When you’re ready for a bit of R&R, climb into the hot tub just around the corner.
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood in trendy North Park with a park and playground just a few blocks away. Head in the other direction, and you will find bustling streets filled with bars, craft breweries, esteemed restaurants, and eclectic shops.
A few places worth checking out nearby include Belching Beaver Brewing, Jayne's Gastropub, Nomad Donuts, Tiger! Tiger!, and Soda & Swine.
Jump on the I-8 and you are a short drive to gorgeous beaches, a vibrant downtown, and the city's best attractions!

About Tasha Ross
Told not to go chasing waterfalls, but here I am, chasing waterfalls. Always looking for the next adventure. Love to travel and spend time with my boyfriend, Alex, and the notorious Lux (my golden/boxer).
Tasha Ross purchased this House in 2015
Why Tasha Ross chose North Park
I moved to San Diego on a whim, and have made the city home. I spent about a month looking for a place to put down roots when I came across this gem. I walked in and instantly could see myself cooking in the kitchen, enjoying the hot tub, and playing with my pup in the yard. I lived here for two years when a job opportunity took me outside of San Diego. I ultimately returned, and the house naturally turned into a full time rental property. I miss living there at times, but am less than a mile away in a condo that I recently renovated and adore. Plus, it is always fun to explore a new area, and I enjoy interacting with guests from all over the world!
What makes this House unique
This is the perfect craftsman cottage for San Diego living. The sun shines wakes you up in the best possible way, and is the perfect base to come back to after a long day of exploring. The cottage is comfortable and has all of the modern amenities that we have come to enjoy.

Loved the Privacy and Location
We loved the privacy gate especially having the little ones with us. We also loved how central North Park was. We loved Rudfords for breakfast and City Tacos for dinner. We did notice a lot of people walking and some transients, but everyone keeps to themselves. We also could hear the police helicopter out each night. If your not used to the city sounds that could impact your stay. It didn’t bother us. Our girls loved having their own room and the space to play in the yard. We all loved the jacuzzi, it was so nice after our long days at Safari Park and Sea World. We used Tasha’s recommendations in the welcome book on beaches and weren’t disappointed. Tasha was also very quick to reply when we had questions. We hope to stay again for sure! Thank you Tasha for helping us to create some beautiful memories!
We loved our stay at this beautiful home. It is a great location and public transportation is close by. Property is very well maintained with modern amenities that include a lavish shower with plenty of room for two. The back yard is very beautiful and we enjoyed the hot tub. Will definitely stay here again on our next trip to San Diego!
Comfortable and quiet small home with character and plenty of amenities
My wife and I spent two weeks in early March 2018 at this property. We mostly enjoyed our stay here. The house was equipped with many of the small items you take for granted at home, like spices, paper towels, condiments, etc... We loved the side yard with the big couches and the back yard with a hot tub. A great location to unwind in after a long day roaming around San Diego! A short drive to some of the most popular tourist destinations, like the Zoo and Balboa Park. North Park has steadily been acquiring a new vibe that includes nice bars and restaurants. We enjoyed exploring around Adam or University streets which contain some eclectic eateries and shops.
One downside is you have only one bathroom so if uncomfortable sharing with others then maybe not a good choice for you. We found it comfortable just for the two of us and when our son came to visit...his bedroom was very small and more adequate for small children than adults!!
Be prepared for a lot of traffic noise in front of the hour especially during rush hours otherwise the typical suburban house and you need to expect some road noise!!
When travelling to tourist areas we learned to avoid the freeways by not taking interstate 8 especially during rush hours.
The master bed is very soft and lumpy so I would not recommend for anyone having a bad back. The BBQ was just adequate for us but disappointing that not cleaned before we arrived.
Tasha was very responsive to all our requests and we appreciated the property information binder she provided.
I am sorry that you mostly enjoyed your stay. It sounds like you are familiar with North Park and San Diego and know that the area that you stayed in is quite urban. The street that the house sits on is one street off the main street, so there are cars, but not much traffic. The 8 freeway, which is one of the main freeways used when heading to the beach can get backed, but there are also plenty of other ways around it, which I offered to share. Unfortunately, the evening that it was most frustrating for you, a water pipe burst and closed down a major freeway causing gridlock all over the city.
Similar to many other homes in the neighborhood, this is a craftsman home with much detail. The rooms are not huge like you would find in a more suburban area, but offer the privacy and comfort that you would need for vacation. Although, some do prefer a firmer mattress, both of the queen bed mattresses in the house are on the softer side. The particular mattress that you mention was actually purchased this past Spring.
I do appreciate the feedback on the grill and have already spoken to my cleaning crew about how important it is to ensure that the grill is clean. My sincerest apologies.
We enjoyed our stay at this house. The house was nice and clean. The outside is set up very nice and even though it sits in the middle of a very busy neighborhood the fence gives complete privacy.
Thank you Tasha for opening your home to me and my dogs.
Small charming house nestled into busy neighborhoods with lots of stuff to do.
House was exactly how you see in pictures, beds, bathrooms and amenities were top notch. House is also close to all attractions in the area, you can definitely have a busy trip trying to see everything there is to do. I went whale watching and to the zoo, also drove around Coronado island and watched the sun set, then down to ocean beach for people watching and drinks. Great trip!
Wonderful property! Everything was just as described and Tasha was very helpful with any questions.
Head to Balboa park to explore the botanical gardens, the various museums, try out lawn bowling, or find yourself wandering around one of the many festivals that happens year 'round.
