About Betsy Rayner
Your hosts at Chez Palmiers are Betsy and Bill Rayner. Bill was born in London, England and Betsy was born in Pana, Illinois. The two remained an ocean apart until Betsy's junior year at the University of Notre Dame. A summer semester abroad took Betsy to London, where Bill was running an import/export business. A chance meeting in a pub, one pint led to another and Bob's Your Uncle, Betsy and Bill became engaged. A few years living in London, then back across the pond to New York City. Along the way, the Rayner two became the Rayner four, with children Kelly and Billy added to the mix. When it came time for Kelly to attend college, she chose Loyola University in New Orleans. And thus began the Rayners’ love affair with this, the Big Easy. What sealed the deal for a southern move was a visit to Kelly just as Hurricane Katrina was gaining momentum. Betsy got to see New Orleans weather at its worst...and the spirit and strength of New Orleans at it best. Kelly ended up staying in New Orleans, marrying New Orleans native, Mark Heck. The Rayners and Hecks purchased a Bywater B&B, the Lookout Inn, which is managed by Kelly. And then another B&B nearby became available. And the bright lights of NYC dimmed in comparison to the quirky and eclectic charm of New Orleans. So goodbye Big Apple, hello Big Easy. They are delighted to continue the hospitality provided by Schuyler and David over their many years. Now Betsy and Bill are proud owners of Chez Palmiers and are pleased to be your hosts. They are joined by their basset hounds Marge and Mabel. Marge has classic mournful eyes and if there is a drawer or door that is ajar, she will nose her way in. Mabel, the puppy, is still learning the ropes. She will charm you with her antics while trying to steal your socks.
