About Eileen Lay

Tom and I grew up in England, we came to the US in 1983 for what we thought was going to be a 2 year work opportunity but we fell in love with San Diego and decided to make this area our home. We have lived in the US longer than we lived in England and both our kids were born and raised here. We discovered Julian in the early 90s when we lived in Escondido and Tom decided he wanted to build custom homes in the area so we moved here in 1999.

Eileen Lay purchased this house in 2003

Why Eileen Lay chose Julian

We moved into this beautiful Julian ranch property in 2003 as we wanted more open space, and the farmhouse with its old world charm and mid 20th century roots held a special place in our hearts as the original family homestead where our children could grow up.

We have since built another house on the property which we now live in and we saw a unique opportunity to share this beautiful property and all that it offers with others wanting to get away from it all.

What makes this house unique

This property with its 55 acres of space is a place where you can definitely unwind and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind , its location in the foothills of Volcan Mountain Preserve ensures you will have all the peace and quiet you desire and not be overlooked.

The property has a history, there was a goldmine built into the mountain but we've not been able to discover if any gold was found here, although for safety purposes the mine workings are no longer open.

However there are many natural springs and we are using these springs today so the water is the purest you'll ever taste. If you like hiking and being outdoors this property offers hours of interesting walks through meadows, forests and creeks and of course never ending views.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house, the views, the great amenities, and especially the hot tub which was used morning and night.

Thank you.

A warm and inviting taste of nature and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Tom and Eileen have created such a lovely and warm home! We celebrated my mom's 70th birthday here, with 3 generations attending. We were greeted by lovely deer every morning, and amazing views all around. Highly recommended!

80th Birthday----Family Celebration

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful weekend celebration was had by all our family. Even though it was a cold, rainy weekend we stayed warm and cozy having a special time together for the 80th birthday. There were 12 of us with plenty of room for the gang and very comfortable beds for everyone. The 16 year old to the 80 year old enjoyed every moment in the Farmhouse.

Great place, great hosts and just an all around lovely trip. The house was clean and perfect. Great destination to get away from the madness life offers at times with a beautiful location. The deers and wild turkeys (quiet ones at that) was throughly enjoyed by all. The place had everything you need with comfortable beds. Thank you and we hope to be back soon!

Julian's history can be traced back the 1870s gold rush and now its a major getaway destination, only 60 miles from San Diego located in the beautiful Cuyamaca mountains. There are plenty of activities for visitors to our little mountain town, from strolling down Main Street with its historic buildings, taking an old fashioned carriage ride, exploring the many antique stores and enjoying the local wine and beer tasting facilities. For those wanting to experience the outdoor delights of being in the mountains you need go no further than our property, in addition there are many local parks with hiking trails and views galore as well as freshwater fishing at Lake Cuyamaca.

Julian also offers many special events throughout the year and its worthwhile checking with the Julian Chamber of Commerce to plan your trip if you want to take advantage of any of these special events.
