FAQs:
Q: Can you rent boats nearby?
A: Yes, Mitchell's Point marina is about 2 miles away, they rent pontoon and ski boats
Q: Why are guests required to bring their own linens, sheets and towels?
A: Nearly all guests prefer to bring their own for convenience and cost savings. Same for trash bags, paper products etc.
Q: Can you supply linens, sheets and towels for an extra fee?
A: No, but there are linen services there who are happy to arrange that for you.
Q: Is there anything nearby - stores, wineries, restaurants, marinas etc.?
A: Yes! There's a small corner market about 2.5 miles away and a larger store-snack bar-gas station about 6 miles away. Hickory Hill Vineyards and Ramulose Ridge Vineyards are about 11 miles away; Blind Bill's restaurant is about 6 miles away; and Mitchell's Point marina & restaurant about 2 miles away. Many others a little further.
Q: What's the nearest channel marker? Where is the house located on the lake?
A: The nearest channel markers are R1 and W1, which are close to the dam and the largest, deepest part of the lake. Shorewood Cove is in the Mountain View Shores neighborhood southeast of the State Park. The house is in a quiet cove and close to the best fishing, boating, and water sports area on the entire lake.
Q: I love to fish, drink beer, and lie about both. Do I need a fishing license?
A: It depends. If you fish from private property then you do not need a fishing license. If you fish from a boat, then you need a fishing licence. Licenses can be purchased at the local marinas, some stores, and the state park. Beer is sold at marinas, stores and groceries - please enjoy responsibly. Lying is expected, that's why they call it fishing instead of catching.

We have loved coming to Smith Mountain Lake for many years, being graduates of Virginia Tech, southwestern Virginia is a meaningful place for both of us. We hope you get as much pleasure from the house, lake and the surrounding area as we do.
John & Michelle purchased this house in 2017
Shorewood Cove is perfectly situated in the best area on Smith Mountain lake with something for everyone!!! Enjoy the best boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming/floating, water sports, peace-quiet-relaxation, deep water and excellent mountain views.
Directly on the water, private dock with upper level. Fully furnished, well-stocked updated kitchen, all the toys and amenities you'd expect.
The pictures very accurately represent the lovely setting and the care and attention to detail that the owner have taken in furnishing this vacation rental. It has everything one needs for a relaxing lakeside stay to include lake toys. The property was very clean and well-maintained and the owners were very responsive to questions or clarifications. The favorite spot is the upper deck of the dock with great lake views. The bedrooms have plenty of room and the beds are very comfortable and new. Each bedroom had a theme and all aspects are color-coordinated for a nice, finished look. The screened porch is an ideal way to relax over dinner.
This is NOT your Grandmother's old vacation cottage! It has charm and character but is modern, up to date and meets the needs of a larger group very well. The kitchen is well equipped and the second refrigerator on the lower level is ideal for storing your supplies and extra drinks. With three levels of living, there is space enough for everyone to stretch out and feel at home without being crowded. We loved our stay and will certainly return in the future hoping to introduce some new friends to Shorewood Cove as well.
Michelle and John are great owners who care very much about the details of your stay. The listing of amenities is spot-on. We found everything to be well-maintained and in working order. The lakefront property sits at the end of a very relaxing cove with easy ingress/egress should you chose to rent a boat and tie up at their dock. No boat but still want to be on the water? Grab a kayak or paddle-board, which are provided at the property, and have a ball. The upper level of the dock is a great place to while away a sunny afternoon with a book from John's surprisingly large collection of easy reading. If the weather drives you inside, the foosball table in the basement is a hoot!
The route to the property can be a bit confusing, but Google Maps got us there perfectly. Shopping is available but NOT close-by, so be sure to plan ahead and take everything you need in order to minimize the number of time-consuming 12-mile round-trip treks to the general store. If you want to get away from it all, this is a great place!
The owners have thought of everything to make this house special. The photos are a good representation but don't convey the size of the house! This place has lots of room to spread out, get away from the teenagers or just relax.
All kinds of great extras for your water sports are included and all dishes, glasses and silverware are new. House is located on a quiet cove with nice views and great dock. You won't be disappointed!
This gorgeous home was the perfect place for our vacation! So much space to spread out into and each room was beautifully appointed with lovely nautical touches. Super clean and comfortable and I loved being able to hang out inside, outside, and on the screened in porch! Beautiful views of the lake, especially from the upper deck on the dock. The house is stacked with plenty of things to take out onto the lake and enjoy. This will be our go-to place anytime we head out to the lake, can't wait to reserve our next stay!
John and Michelle have the perfect vacation rental.
The house is beautiful. The water toys are wonderful. The house is tastefully decorated inside and out. We had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. We will definately be back for a longer visit. Thank you for sharing you home with us.
We fell in love with this home the minute we entered. Every detail is curated with such perfection. We savored every moment we were there, enjoying the lake, chilling on the deck, the outdoor seating, all of it. We highly recommend this place. The owners took exceptional care of almost every thing we needed. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home!
