Baglio San Filippo is place with a story. A place that will fascinate you, drag you back in time and offer you the unique experience of living in an enchanted Sicilian aristocratic past.
In Baglio San Filippo precious and authentic features combine with the most modern comforts. Here, between a dip in the pool, an outdoor dining surrounded by the pleasant scent of the various Mediterranean plants and a walk in the streets of the most beautiful Baroque towns of Italy, Sicily shows its true colours.
The villa consists of three units. The main one, which is characterized by high ceilings and original 18th century floors, has two double bedrooms, one bedroom with two single beds and two bathrooms with bidet and toilet, one with a shower and another with a bathtub. The kitchen leads to a lovely shady terrace with a table and chairs.
The two subunits are two detached dependence. Each of them has a living room with a kitchenette, a bathroom with shower, and a mezzanine with a double bed and two single beds. Several other equipped terraces complete the building enriching its enchanted atmosphere with the views of rolling hills and the sea. Finally, a barbecue and a inviting swimming pool.
Thanks to its thick walls and high ceiling Baglio San Filippo keeps itself cool during summer. The two dependance and one of the bedrooms in the main building have air-conditioning.
The pool (6x12 m. 2.40 m.) deserves an extra mention for it is entirely surrounded by several Mediterranean plants, including many palm trees and colourful and enjoyably fragrant flowers, and for it can be lighted at night. Whereas during the day, this pool offers refreshing and relaxing moments, in the evening it will be the perfect setting for unforgettable moments.
It will be very difficult to depart from the villa, yet it will be well worth visiting also its beautiful surroundings. Artistic gems such as Modica, Ragusa and Scicli, recognized and protected by UNESCO, and natural paradises such as the beaches of Marina di Modica and Cava d'Aliga – which are only 15 km away – are just a foretaste of what Sicily has to offer to Baglio San Filippo’s guests.

Lovely rural location with very helpful owner. The pool area and the outdoor areas are lovely.
Overall a positive experience but we do want to highlight several things that do detract from the holiday.
The path areas from the house to the pool have been root damaged. This has left some sharp edges.
The weather was beautifully hot but the air conditioning did struggle to cope. We are from Northern Europe and take a time to adapt to the good weather!
We felt the house needed a few small DIY jobs doing ----e.g. bedroom door not opening well. Curtain rails loose
Location, Charm, History
Once we had got over the fact that cleaning hadn't been completed when we arrived and at least half of the light bulbs were out, it took us about 2 days to adapt to the fact that at least some degree of renovation, particularly of the bathrooms, is well overdue. By day 3 we had all fallen completely in love with Baglio San Filippo. It was like having a holiday in the country mansion of an ancient great uncle, or on the set of The Leopard. Certainly one is surrounded by the history of the owning family, various branches of which have owned it for close to 3 centuries. The present owner/descendant, though living in Catania, and her cousin (who lives in the village), could not have been more helpful or friendly and were always able to advise and guide us, including arranging for a delightful cook and cleaner. We were a large party with plenty of children, all of whom loved the grounds and pool and the beach at Sampieri (about 20 minutes away). The adults became completely intoxicated by the house and by the area. Southern Sicily does that. Modica has to be the most beautifully crumbling baroque town of all of them, though Ragusa, Scicli and Noto are all obligatory for first-time visitors. This year we also discovered Pozzalo, present in no guide books nor websites but another faded gem, flaunting every degree of its lower-than-Tunis latitude. I would have given Baglio San Filippo 5 stars but for the quibbles at the start of this review, but in truth, how can one rate a stay in a historical timewarp? It is glorious, and we will return, if the friendly ghosts which inhabit the old drawing room will have us.
'How can one rate a stay in a historical timewarp?' I really enjoyed reading your review. Thank you. I think you captured the true beauty of Baglio San Filippo. A place that is able to bring you back in time, in a southern aristocratic life which nowadays exists only in books and movies.
This villa has charm and is in a wonderful setting
We had a wonderful holiday in Villa San Fillipo. It is a fine old building set within an abundance of courtyards and beautiful gardens. There are plenty of places to eat al fresco and it is most romantic to be out by the floodlit pool. The house itself has a graceful 18century ambience with glorious views looking over the countryside. We barbecued often and the owner had brought in delicious supplies for our arrival which we had ordered in advance. The house was extremely clean, the garden well maintained and any queries were answered and seen to immediately. It was magic and a great place for a big party of friends or family. There was plenty to do locally but you need a car. You are not far from the sea and several very charming towns such as Modica, Ragusa Siccli are within a half hours drive and further afield Syracusa. I would highly recommend this villa.
un paradis pour les vacances
emplacement central pour rayonner au coeur de la Sicile baroque. beaucoup d'espace à disposition. extérieur splendide. grande disponibilité et gentillesse des propriétaires.
Baglio San Filippo in located in the so-called “Val di Noto” where UNESCO has acknowledged 8 sites as heritage of mankind. Masterpieces of Baroque art such as Ragusa, Modica and Scicli are all within a short drive. Ragusa is about 100 Km away from Catania and is surrounded by a lush vegetation. People say that Ragusa is a city with two faces: the modern one of Ragusa Superiore and the ancient one of Ragusa Ibla. Both sides of Ragusa are blessed by the sun, which is, in turn, emphasized by the white stones of their superbly decorated Baroque façades such as the one of the magnificent Duomo di San Giorgio (Saint George's Cathedral). Just outside the city (15 Km), the Castle of Donnafugata attracts visitors willing to be brought back in time into the enchanted aristocratic atmosphere of Luchino Visconti’s movie, Il Gattopardo. Modica and Scicli are about 15 minutes drive from Baglio San Filippo. Both towns are widely known for their Baroque churches and palaces. In particular, Modica cannot be left without visiting its Duomo di San Giorgio. While Scicli, inhabited from the prehistoric time, offers an impressive mixture of architectural styles.
