Why Susan Knoepfel chose Robbinsville

We have been traveling to the NC mountains for many, many years. Knew the minute we walked onto the front porch this cabin was the one. It's all about the view! I wanted a majestic view! The view from our front porch and back deck is similar to those you would see on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Seeing the gorgeous interior cinched the deal even more. Having it all on 1 floor with no stairs to climb was an added plus, not to mention lake access nearby, higher elevation=cooler temps, newer construction and design layout, and surrounded by national forest with no visible neighbors in site. Absolutely love the very scenic gravel 1 mile drive via a USFS maintained road that follows the lake edge up to the property.

What makes this cabin unique

This 1-story home is also wheelchair accessible with large front double-door entrance, large shower areas with no step-overs to get in, hand-held shower nozzles in both showers, master shower has small bench for sitting, hand rails installed in toilet area in guest bath. All interior doors are 36" wide to accommodate wheelchair. There is a small 2" step to get onto the front walk way from the gravel driveway but should be navigable for a wheelchair with a little assistance.

Immaculate cabin with breathtaking views!

  • 5 of 5

You never know how a rental place is going to look "up close" when you walk through the door the first time, but here we breathed a sigh of relief and immediately began to enjoy this cabin. It is squeaky clean, very comfortable, well stocked and has the most beautiful front porch view. It was hard for me to ever drag myself in from the porch! We really enjoyed the local attractions with our school-age "tween" children, including: the Joyce Kilmer forest trails, the Lake Santeetlah bicycle trail, canoeing and kayaking at Bob Sellers' boat rental on Deyton Camp Rd (very nice people there but they don't show up on Google maps for some reason), a wonderful Mass with one of the best homilies we've ever heard at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Robbinsville, breakfast at the Huddle House, taking in the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse from the back patio of the cabin, and lots of board games and porch time. We are already enjoying the memories made there. What a special place! One suggestion that my husband had for your future guests was that it would be great if you could somehow arrange kayak and canoe rentals with the neighboring retreat house so that we could've saved ourselves an additional car ride to the boat rental place. It would be nice to have that boat access to the lake within walking distance. But really, such a great place overall. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the great review. That view from the front porch and back deck is what sold me on buying this home before I even saw the beautiful design layout and amenities inside the cabin. Our family prides itself on providing a beautiful and clean home for our guests. As for the canoes and kayaks, the nearby retreat will be under new ownership soon and we'll see if that may be a possibility down the road.

Picture-Perfect Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this cabin with my family this past Thanksgiving and it was everything we could've asked for! The view was incredible and the front porch was set up with rocking chairs perfect for sitting outside and soaking it all in. The interior of the cabin was beautiful and exactly what you would imagine your ideal mountain cabin looking like. The size of the kitchen and dining table were great since we prepared and ate our Thanksgiving meal in the cabin. We also really appreciated that the cabin had plenty of board games! Location is nice and tucked away but also an easy 30-45 minute ride to Tsali for good mountain biking or hiking. Directions to cabin from owner were helpful and we didn't get lost finding the cabin. All in all, a great experience!!

Fernandina Beach, Florida

Super nice place. Secluded, amazing views, well equipped. The best house we have rented in the area.

  • 5 of 5

This is my idea of a mountain cabin. High up, off the beaten path, incredible views, best porches ever. Joyce Kilmer is minutes away biggest Popular trees in the mountains. Cherahola Skyway is a gem, don’t tell anybody though all those crowds from the Smokies will show up. Huckleberry Knob is one of the most beautiful places in the mountains 360 views, and all to yourself, 1/2 mile easy hike. Love it love it We will be back.

I will not return to this cabin rental and do not recommend it to anyone.

  • 1 of 5

I will not return to this cabin rental and do not recommend it to anyone. We had a terrible time trying to find the cabin. This experience left a bad impression about this rental.

The owner led us to believe that there was good signage, lighting and provided a map but, there was no signage to get us to the proximity of the cabins, the map was not good, poor/no lighting, and upon arrival and traversing various gravel roads, we could not find the cabin. We were also told that the gravel roads were in good condition but, there were pot holes in some areas and our automobile hit bottom on a few occasions.

With no phone number to contact the owner, we were stranded. We had to stay in a motel at our own expense. The owner refused to give us a credit for the first night we were not able to stay at the cabin.

It is a shame this experience was marred by poor customer service and unfair business practice by the owner.

Owner's Response: My contact information is provided to guests prior to check in and I have no problem taking phone calls late at night if there is a problem. I had spoke on the phone with this guest several days prior to his check in so I know he had my phone #. Even though these guests drove 16+ hours straight from South Florida and arrived near midnight I would have welcomed a phone call to assist them in the middle of the night. Instead I was informed the next morning that they had gotten lost. I got someone local to assist them in finding the correct road, which apparently was not a problem to drive as they stayed and enjoyed the remainder of their full week.
