Lake Anna provides a great base for so many Virginia adventures.

The two of us, with help from our family, have just finished renovating and furnishing this special home. We have a weekend lake home nearby, so we continue to maintain and improve the house. This is our favorite part of the lake, where there is little boat traffic and the water is warm, but a cool underwater spring makes it our preferred swimming hole on the warmest days of summer.

Guests who come to our Brick Lake House discover a getaway where they finally get to decompress from the stresses of the real world, rekindle family relationships and create great memories. We invite you to be one of the first to enjoy all that it has to offer. You'll want to come back year after year.

If you have any questions about the property, please feel free to email us and ask.

About Gregg and Kim DenHerder

A fun-loving Iowa boy who grew up on Lake Okoboji and a Speech Therapist from Louisiana got together, made a Brady Bunch and decided that Lake Anna was the place to bring the family together. We work hard so we are able to have fun and enjoy life. We love lake living. It makes us happy to help others have fun. Gregg is the kind of guy who taught all the neighborhood kids how to waterski. For this house, Gregg moved dirt and re-graded the lot, removed stumps and rocks, cut and trimmed the trees to recreate the water view. Kim fretted about paint colors, repairing tiles, grout, wallpaper removal and making backsplashes. Good friends and our family helped us complete the work to make this our dream house. We're not done yet. Nothing makes us happier than hearing children squeal with laughter playing at the water and full bodied laughter of grownups having a good time. Those are the sounds that we hope to hear from our guests.

Gregg and Kim DenHerder purchased this house in 2017

Why Gregg and Kim DenHerder chose Bumpass

We fell in love with this house on our favorite part of the lake. The water is warm and the bottom is sandy and a cool stream from a nearby spring keeps your toes cool. This was the spot where we first saw a bald eagle swoop down to grab a fish and enjoy his meal from a tree at the shore. We recognized that this lot had the advantage of a rare combination of proximity to the water, a flat lawn, and shallow and safe water access for children. The house has ample living space and a floor plan designed for entertaining. It has enough room for 16 to eat at the same time and spaces for big groups to chat together or to go off alone for quiet time. The high ceilings and tall windows provide great water views. Quality and solid construction keep the home comfortable and quiet. You don't hear the pitter-patter of footsteps around you when you want to sleep in. We would love to see generations come together to make family memories here. We welcome friends getting together to catch up and relax, a girl's or guy's getaway or a business retreat to brainstorm and network. We hope that you will want to keep coming back to She's a Brick Lake House.

What makes this house unique

* With advance notice, we can book together with Heron's Cove next door. See their listing.#620039

It's hard to find a better lake house better suited for families with small children. The gradual slope with a sandy bottom creates a great play area for little ones to splash in. The private and quiet cove has little boat traffic, so there's no constant barrage of waves from their wakes. The soft sandy beach is made for building castles or digging your toes in. The kids will be playing in the water all day. There's also a fenced -in side yard.

The sand and gentle shore also make it easy to launch and park your kayak and paddleboard. Catch fish, watch herons, eagles and other wildlife. Watch spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The firepit extends your waterfront experience into the night.

Lake Anna's private side enjoys less water traffic, more privacy and a longer season with the warmer water. The house is just a few miles away from 2 country stores where you can pick up a few essentials, bait or fast food, country style. The house is not far from the main road, so there are no long drives down gravel roads or through a meandering subdivision to reach the house. Inside there's a pool room, air hockey, movie room, 3 large TV areas, movies, games, and puzzles. The kitchen is large and well stocked. There' are 3 large showers, a jetted tub, and a standard tub. We've tried to include everything to make your stay the best. We have a house nearby and we are frequently adding things, checking and maintaining things to make sure our guests have the best stay possible.

Beautiful home; wonderful long weekend

  • 5 of 5

We’ve been renting “cabins” for our annual family weekend for over 15 years. We all agreed that this was one of our best choices ever. There was plenty of room and plenty to do (which was great since the weather was fussy one day). The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes and appliances we could possibly need to create feasts for eight. The location is great, too. We were under an hour away from the museum in Richmond (and shopping) and there is a grocery store just ten minutes from the house. Many thanks to Kim and Gregg for opening their beautiful home to us.

Truly Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week over labor day with our two young children and our friends came with their 3 young kids for the weekend. We had an absolutely wonderful time at this property! The kids had a ball and the house had everything you could ever ask for. You can tell the owners have taken a lot of time and effort to make this place as great as it is! I would like to thank Gregg and Kim for allowing us to use their house to make some great memories! They were very accomodating and easy to work with. We are certainly planning to come back again next year. We've rented multiple houses at Lake Anna and this house has been our favorite so far. Don't hesitate, book the house and you are guaranteed a great time!

It was fantastic

  • 5 of 5

This was our first Lake Anna experience even though we live in RIC. The house is flat out amazing and in addition to that Greg and his family show that they truly care about the experience of those that stay. Every detail is taken care of from books and movies for the kids to firewood for the gorgeous fire pit overlooking the lake. This won't be our last trip to Anna and we have no reason to look for another place to stay. If you have the opportunity, book it now!

Great Property!

  • 5 of 5

Just a great house for a family vacation. Plenty of space, great eat-in kitchen upstairs (and an additional kitchen downstairs!), pool table, air hockey table, great kids' bunk bed room, plenty of bathrooms, very clean, well maintained, nice elevated deck in the rear of the house facing the lake. 3 kayaks, 2 paddleboards and a cool 5 person float got lots of use all week.

Linens and towels were plentiful and of EXCELLENT QUALITY (never realized how much of a difference this could make!).

Owners were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating.

We went in the middle of August 2017 and the weather had been very hot & humid, so the warm side of the lake was VERY warm (90 degrees), so the lake water wasn't as refreshing as I was hoping it would be, but being in and on the lake was still great.

We only ate out twice during our stay and can HIGHLY recommend both the local Chinese restaurant as well as Tavern on the Rail (excellent food and service!!! ....don't be fooled by the old (restored) general store building, this place is amazing).

Having rented multiple lake and beach houses in the past, I can honestly say that everyone in our party was very happy with our vacation. Greg and Kim, thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. While I can't do much about the water temperature, I'll try to do a better job of showing guests where the "cool spots" are. Y'all were WONDERFUL guests. We'd love to have you back again.

Best ever family vacation accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't be happier with this vacation property! Plenty of room for our extended family and a few visiting friends. With the beach front and two paddle boards, two kayaks and a row boat everyone was out on the water every day. We enjoyed the fire pit and hammocks in the evening. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and serve our meals. We kept all of the beverages and snacks in the family room/bar area that overlooks the lake. This kept everyone out of the kitchen while we were cooking. In addition to the outdoor activities, We were entertained with the air hockey table and billiard table and the big screen TVs in the bar area and media room. The owners greeted us and could not have been nicer. Thank you Gregg & Kim!

Lovely home, great location, and caring owners!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a spacious home with waterfront access and a beautiful view of the lake. I reached out to the owners Gregg and Kim and received a response within minutes. I must say, throughout the entire process, the owners were a pleasure to work with. Once we arrived at the home, it was apparent that they take great pride and care in providing everything one could expect in a vacation home. From the kayaks and wakeboards to the BBQ grill with extra gas, the extra towels, fully equipped kitchen, air hockey, ice maker, etc., the list goes on. We had 5 kids with us and we found the home to be exceptionally quite, even with the young ones running around in the early morning. If you are looking for a spacious home that is located on a quite section of the lake with great amenities, this is a great find. To top it off, it just felt good renting from such personable and caring owners....we loved it!
