There is a marvellous sense of history and romance at this striking Georgian garden apartment for two in the centre of historic Bath. Situated in a handsome square between Bath's famous Royal Crescent and The Circus, it has grand and atmospheric rooms packed with period detail and original decorative plasterwork picked out in Wedgwood Blue. It is equipped with every modern comfort, such as the smart fitted kitchen and private garden, and yet gazing into the flames of the wood burning stove you are immediately transported 200 years earlier when Jane Austen first penned her celebrated novels. Newly renovated in 2013 this property has received a 4 star gold from Quality and Tourism.

The spacious living room is filled with detail, from the ornate cornicing, to the plaster paneling and a decorative frieze above a large carved, working fireplace. Light streams from two tall sash windows with original working shutters. There are two large sumptuous sofas, one of which is a sofa-bed, along with a TV and DVD and a selection of films and books. A folding dining table seats 4 with a set of Spode china for special occasions.

The blue and gold bedroom also has tall shuttered windows overlooking a little walled courtyard garden and an ornate carved fireplace with a mirror over. There is a cream and brass bedstead with a 5' king size bed, a chest of drawers, fitted wardrobe and pretty French style armchair.

A neat white-tiled bathroom with a smoky blue glass trim has polished stone flooring over which is a bath with shower over, a hand basin with storage over and a WC.

The stone floor carries into a lovely cream fitted kitchen with granite worktops and a breakfast bar, along with two high seats. French doors lead into a private courtyard garden. Neatly designed and well equipped, the kitchen is fitted with a gas hob, an electric oven, a large fridge and separate freezer, a small dishwasher and a washing machine combined with dryer.

The Bath Spa railway and bus station are a 15-20 minute walk away. Alternatively a car parking permit for 1 car is available allowing you to park in a resident's bay on Catharine place itself or on neighbouring streets.

Excellent Location for Exploring Bath

When we travel we always stay in self catering apartments. We shop and cook as if we were at home. Therefore a fully equipped kitchen is of prime importance. The only item that my husband would have liked would be a four cup drip coffee maker.

To be fair we found this amenity in only one of the seven accommodations we rented during our 25 day vacation in the UK. The kitchen is very well equipped.

Parking in Bath is tight. Once you find a spot stay put. Walking is the best way to experience Bath. This apartment is in an excellent location. The Margaret's Shops are convenient for produce, bread and other items.

This apartment was quiet, comfortable and well furnished. It was not as clean as most accommodations in which we stayed during our 25 day trip to the UK. Ashes had been left in the fireplace and could be smelt during a during a brief rain storm.

The keys used to enter the building and apartment are not labeled. My husband was unable to unlock the doors. A certain amount of patience and fineness is required to unlock both doors.

On the whole we would recommend this apartment as a suitable accommodation for exploring Bath.

This is a beautiful and historic part of Georgian Bath with lots of excellent facilities on the doorstep. Right around the corner at the pedestrianised Margarets Buildings are a delightful selection of restaurants, gorgeous boutiques and art galleries. In the other direction to St. James Square, there is a newsagents, chemist, Italian deli and coffee shop, Cavendish Cooks home cooked take-away, hairdressers and organic green-grocers and florist. The nearest supermarket is the Co-Op, just a couple of minutes walk. It is a delightful short stroll to the Assembly rooms and the Museum of Costume and Bath city centre, where you can discover older historic Bath, and more wonderful shopping, dining, museums and galleries. The lovely peaceful Royal Crescent Gardens and Victoria Park are around the corner and have indoor/outdoor tennis courts, botanical gardens and mini golf. The Approach 18 hole golf course is 5 minutes walk away and has wonderful views.
