Why Colm Begley chose Gambassi Terme
In 2006 I heard that a group of local people planned to restore a tiny ancient ruined village. I went to visit the village and was immediately enchanted by its tranquillity and stunning views. We took a leap of faith and purchased a heap of stones and broken timbers at the end of the village. Now seven years later the village has been restored to its former beauty.
What makes this Apartment unique
The reconstruction of the village was subject to strict Italian heritage laws. All original materials were re-used and other materials were salvaged from local ruins. The building work had to be carried out using traditional building methods. The 'apartment' is actually a small house at the quietest end of the village, with its own roof and with windows on three sides! The best feature is a large private terrace with stunning views across the valley to the ancient hilltop town of Volterra, with its many towers.
