Millside Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Millside Cottage is situated in a quiet location, close to the centre of the village and a short distance from the village shop. There are two allocated parking places at the front of the property. The cottage has full gas central heating, double glazing and is lovingly maintained with wonderful views of the fells. It is charming and well equipped offering very comfortable accommodation for any time of year.

The entrance porch opens into a spacious, well decorated, lounge with a beamed ceiling, a living flame gas fire which has a remote control, and a leather suite, along with Smart TV, Bluetooth + CD Hi-Fi.

From the lounge you enter the fully fitted kitchen diner with built in appliances, including oven, 5 ringed ceramic touch control hob, microwave, washer dryer, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso Magimix coffee machine with some complimentary pods. There is a dining area with table and four chairs with views out to the secluded garden.

From the kitchen there is a small sun room with comfortable wicker chairs and table, ideal for afternoon tea and reading. This leads to the well kept enclosed garden which is ideal for families and those sunny days in the Lake District. It has a paved area with table and chairs, many different flowering shrubs and views out towards the fells.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one bedroom with bespoke king size bed and one twin with two singles, both with built in wardrobes.

The large bathroom has both a bath and a shower cubicle, and a wash hand basin (the view of Barrow Fell from the bath after a day on the fells is definitely recommended). There is a separate WC next to the bathroom. One bath towel and one hand towel are provided per person.

It would be easy to park up and enjoy a jam-packed car-free holiday. Braithwaite amenities include three lovely pubs serving food and local ales, village shop and a tearoom. There's nearby Whinlatter Forest along with a huge selection of walks and outdoor activities to choose from, a nearby bus stop with routes taking you all over the Lake District, and Keswick town centre only minutes away.

Great Cottage

We have stayed at Millside Cottage many times before and it's a favourite of ours. Cottage is very homely and well equipped. It was great to see that the shower has been upgraded. One suggestion is that the new Wood burner is not that practical to use as there is no companion set, or at the very minimum an available poker. Having a fire at home, we know that sometimes you really need a poker to "re-adjust" locations of logs within the fire to ensure that they are sat correctly.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your lovely review — and for choosing to return to Millside Cottage so many times. It really does mean a great deal to us when guests come back again and again, and we're delighted to hear it remains one of your favourites. It’s wonderful to know you continue to find the cottage homely, comfortable, and well equipped, and we're pleased the upgraded shower was a welcome improvement. Thank you as well for your helpful feedback regarding the wood burner. That's a very practical observation, and one that someone with experience of using a fire at home is particularly well placed to make. We can certainly see how having a companion set, or at the very least a poker, would make it easier to safely adjust logs and get the most from the stove. We'll be sure to pass this suggestion on to the owner for consideration. Thank you again for your continued support and for taking the time to share your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to Millside Cottage again soon. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Spring in the Lakes

Having stayed at Millside on numerous occasionsit still feels like home each time I arrive. The cottage is always warm and comfortable and well equipped, On site parking is good and the enclosed garden is of a great benefit (especially when bringing your dog).Braithwaite is ideally situated for exploring the northern lakes. If like me, you hold a bus pass, travelling around the Lakes from Keswick is a great journey way of enjoying Cumbria.

Perfect base

We have just returned from a wonderful two week stay at Millside Cottage. Braithwaite was an excellent base from which to explore the north western corner of the lakes especially with the bigger towns very busy with summer visitors and traffic. The double parking spaces proved very handy and, with careful manoeuvring, fitted a smaller car and estate car for the duration. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable. The shower is excellent and the bedrooms comfy. The small sun room was a real sun trap and the patio garden at the back a great spot for a cuppa after a day in the hills. It was also completely secure for our spaniel. Location wise with the village shop a few metres from the door (open every day) and the two pubs within a 5 minute walk serving delicious food and local beers, it could not be faulted. We enjoyed walks from the door in all directions and also a quick trip up the road to the excellent and highly recommended Whinlatter park run.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review. We’re delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable two-week stay at Millside Cottage. It’s great to know that Braithwaite proved to be such an excellent base for exploring the North Western Lakes, especially during the busy summer season. The village really does offer the perfect balance of peace and convenience, with easy access to so many fantastic walks and attractions. We’re pleased the parking worked well for your vehicles and that you found the cottage comfortable, well equipped, and welcoming throughout your stay. It’s lovely to hear the shower, bedrooms, and sun room all got a mention, and we can easily picture how enjoyable it must have been to relax in the patio garden with a well-earned cuppa after a day on the fells. We're especially pleased that the garden worked so well for your spaniel too. [Emoji Removed] The location is certainly one of Millside Cottage’s biggest strengths. Having the village shop just a few steps away and two excellent pubs within easy walking distance makes it hard to beat, and it sounds as though you really made the most of everything Braithwaite and the surrounding area have to offer. Thank you again for your kind words. We’re so pleased you had such a fantastic stay and would be delighted to welcome you back to Millside Cottage in the future. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Great stay in the perfect location

We had a lovely stay at Millside, the location was perfect. Great walks in the area and very easy to get into Keswick. We hired extra items, that were there when we arrived and the customer team was very quick to respond to an issue we had. Parking was good, but I wouldn't say there was space for two cars. Would be good to have some bits in the kitchen like a set of scales and a rolling pin. But apart from that, we had everything we need and we will be back.

A very enjoyable stay!

The Cottage was ideally located for lots of adventures and had a very homely feel. The Cottage has the benefit of off road parking and because there are really good amenities in Braithwaite together with the fabulous walks from the door ranging from a Wainwright to a gentle stroll around the village we didn't use the car. We particularly enjoyed the walk up Barrow and Outerside with our dog Toby. I'm sure we will be staying again.

We've stayed here before and will be booking it again. The location is perfect. The property is clean. The garden is small but my dog can't get out of it which is a big plus for me. There are a few minor issues which make it a 4* rather than a 5*

Great location, our favourite cottage

After many stays at Millside, we were not disappointed at our recent visit. Small sunny and enclosed outside paved area surrounded by shrubs. Nice to see that there has been a bit of a tidy up of the planted areas. Views of Skiddaw and Barrow. Comfortable leather sofas, and good to have a separate kitchen/dining area. Bedrooms, although small are perfectly adequate with more than ample storage. The main bed is very comfortable, providing a great sleep. Useful to have a separate shower cubicle in the bathroom that has views of Barrow. Off road parking is a real bonus, we had no issues driving in and out of the drive despite cars parked on the road outside cottages opposite. Our spaniel loved the doggy welcome pack. Basic supplies are provided for humans, although guests will need to provide cleaning sprays, kitchen roll, washing machine powder/tablets as well as additional dishwasher tablets/washing up liquid as the welcome pack is quite basic. A small supply of tea bags, coffee and milk sachets and biscuits is also provided. The Village Shop is just a minute away and well stocked for basics as well as bread and cakes. Booths in Keswick is a couple of miles away as is a Co-op. Most online stores deliver to the village. Fellside Cafe/Bistro is highly recommended for excellent all day food and drinks. Super friendly. Coledale Inn has great views from the beer garden. Friendly staff and good food - huge portions. Endless low or high level walks from the door. Keswick Cottages provide excellent customer service, and their housekeeper was superb. We look forward to returning.

Hi Heather, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review of Millside Cottage. We're absolutely delighted to hear that, after many stays, it remains your favourite cottage and that you enjoyed another wonderful visit. It's lovely to know that you appreciated the sunny enclosed garden, the comfortable furnishings, well-equipped layout, and excellent sleeping arrangements. Thank you as well for sharing such helpful information about the local area and amenities, including your recommendations for the Village Shop, Fellside Café and the Coledale Inn. We're especially grateful for your kind comments about our customer service and housekeeping team, who will be thrilled to hear your praise. Spring break in Braithwaite.

We have stayed in Millside cottage several times previously. The cottage has obviously had an upgrade which to be honest was needed, but it's in a lovely location, convenient for travel (minutes to Keswick by car), walking etc. It now has a new log burner, new shower, coffee machine in the kitchen and the paint has freshened up the whole place. Parking is dedicated for two cars and is generally okay but the lane can get busy and congested. There is a new electric charging point for those guests now having electric cars. The garden, although quite small compared to the cottage directly opposite, which we have also used before, is a sun trap and ideal to sit in with a morning coffee. The views are gorgeous and those climbing the "Barrow" can be seen from the kitchen too. All in all, ideally situated, but the TV and associated technology could do with being replaced.

Hi, Malcolm! Thank you for your continued loyalty to Millside — it’s always a pleasure to welcome returning guests who know the property so well. We’re really pleased to hear you’ve noticed and appreciated the recent upgrades, from the new log burner and shower to the fresh décor and added coffee machine. It’s great to know these improvements have enhanced your experience. We’re glad the location continues to work well for you, with easy access to Keswick and lovely walking routes, and that you were able to enjoy the garden — even if smaller than next door, it really does make a wonderful sun trap with those gorgeous views. It’s also great to hear the parking and new EV charging point were useful additions. Thank you as well for your honest feedback regarding the TV and technology. This has been noted and passed on for consideration, as we’re always looking to keep properties up to date for our guests. We very much appreciate your thoughtful review and look forward to welcoming you back to Millside again in the future. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

We enjoyed our stay

This cottage is clean and comfortable and in a great location. It's perfect for the dog as there is a fully enclosed garden which my dog couldn't get out of. I find this very rare even when the description says enclosed garden it often isn't dog proof. This is our 2nd stay and we've already booked a 3rd.

Cozy, Clean & Comfortable in an ideal location

Our first stay in Millside Cottage but certainly won’t be our last. We usually stay in Keswick but have fallen in love with Braithwaite. The cottage is located perfectly, just a couple doors away from the village shop which is ideal. Straight out the door & on to the fells without any need to drive. And just a short drive from Whinlatter which is ideal for walks & mountain bike rides. We found it to be very clean, comfortable, well equipped with parking big enough for a car and a van. The cottage was clean with a nice little secure garden which was perfect to sit in after a day on the fells. A proper home from home vibe & we are already looking forward to our next visit!

Very well positioned and comfortable but there were quite a few faults and guest information was limited. There was a general feeling that the cottage needed updating with more care being taken to make guests feel welcome.

A short Autumnal break

Having stayed at Millside cottage previously, we used the property after our daughter's wedding at the Lodore falls hotel on 2nd October before returning home. The main reason as before was because it was dog friendly. Welcome packs for 2 dogs but only a "cleaning pack" for us and a small beverages starter. As before, frying pans really need re-newing and steamer utensils for the microwave would be really useful. The property was warm on arrival and had a good real flame gas fire. The beds as before were very comfortable and there is a small shop only metres away. Ideal to get into Keswick, only minutes away by car.

Hi Malcolm, We provide a basics pack and a welcome pack to make your arrival easier should you not have had time to pop to the shops before you get here. I will certainly pass on your comments regarding the pans to the owner. I hope that these points did not impact your stay too much and you still enjoyed your time at Millside Cottage. Congratulations on your daughter's wedding. I hope you all had a fabulous day! Best wishes, Keswick Cottages.

Millside Cottage experience.

It was like staying in an ordinary looking Lakeland cottage, with a futuristic array of machines which we appreciated. They weren’t too difficult to use. The village was a delight to walk around, and the shop was handy next door. Only a slight drip on the kitchen tap worried me, but in Cumbria this year there isn’t a water shortage! We met 2 friendly villagers in the street, one of whom showed me his beautiful garden. It wasn’t far to the Keswick Convention either, and we loved the walk in the Whinlatter Pass Forest.

An absolute gem, hidden in plain sight.

We needed dog friendly accommodation and were not disappointed in either location, or facilities. With room for two cars on the compact drive in front of the cottage and a fully enclosed back garden this was a perfect location. Peaceful and quiet most of the time but only minutes away by car from Keswick and views of the Barrow, one of the Wainwrights from the back of the house, this setting provided the best of both worlds. Well equipped and a welcome pack for our dogs too; a lovely touch. Perfect for either a strenuous climb up to the Barrow, or a gentle ramble by the river running through the village, it's a perfect spot. The village shop is only metres away and it's only a short walk to Jaspers dog friendly coffee shop. The cottage itself was clean, spacious and all bed linen/towels provided. Options for early arrival and late check out too. We have booked again for October. Very pleased with everything.

Perfect location

We enjoyed 6 nights in Millside Cottage during the recent snow and ice, and found it to be very warm, comfortable and clean. The beds are very comfortable as are the sofas, the view from the picture window in the large bathroom is spectacular, theres tons of hot water and a lovely big bath, plenty of storage space in the kitchen and bedrooms and decent cleaning materials to hand, the garden is well kept and secure for dogs, it’s easy to park directly in front of the house, and it’s right next to Braithwaite shop, 2 decent dog friendly pubs, 2 smart restaurants and 2 cafes (the shop has recently added on a dining area, although it’s not dog friendly). Loads of great walking from the door to suit all abilities. Keswick Cottages as a rental agency are also good communicators and offer a personable service and are very good value compared to the other national rental companies (Sykes, Hoseasons etc). We’d happily return. As an aside, the recycling/bin information for the cottage needs updating (collections aren’t on a Tuesday as stated and there’s no information on what can be recycled in which external bins).

Excellent characterful cottage but parking too small for two cars

We really enjoyed our stay at Millside Cottage in Braithwaite, a property we had seen in passing through the village for many years. The downstairs living spaces in the lounge and kitchen are excellent and spacious, as is the bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms are much smaller by comparison but still comfortable. The enclosed rear garden is a bonus for dog owners. The cottage is ideally located for the village ameneties, public transport and local walks. Just two negatives to report. First, the cottage is described as having two car parking spaces but the second car would need to be extremely short to fit between the front porch and the road. Our second car was a Ford Fiesta and it was way too long. Second, the rear porch off the kitchen has a polycarbonate roof which in itself is not a problem. However, whenever it rained water cascaded in large amounts on to the roof with a terrific noise, presumably as the gutters on the main house were blocked and overflowing.
