This spacious 2 bedroom apartment is in a fantastic development in the heart of York. Once you reach the first floor courtyard where the apartment is situated, with its unbeatable views of York Minster, you wouldn't know that you were in the centre of a busy city.

The apartment has two good king sized bedrooms, one with an ensuite shower room and also a lovely family bathroom, providing a bath with shower over. The open plan living area is a great space to relax and unwind after a busy day, with a lovely view over the roof tops of the old town across to the Minster.
The kitchen is fully fitted with everything that you would need should you decide to have a comfortable night in. However, you are also within minutes walk of the famous Betty's Tea room, The Ivy and many many more fabulous places to eat and drink. You are also minutes walk from all the places that York offers such as The Minster, The famous old walls of York, museums, art gallery's etc.

Stonegate Retreat also provides a parking permit for your use, meaning that if you are wanting to arrive by car so that you can also explore the beautiful surrounding countryside - parking isn't a problem.

With its proximity to everything you need for a city break, Stonegate Retreat has everything that you need, an oasis of luxurious calm in the heart of a beautiful historic city - perfect!

Please note that York City Centre (where this apartment is located) is a pedestrianised area between the hours of 10.30am and 5.00pm, therefore you are unable to park directly outside the apartment complex between these hours. However, parking is available a short walk away (7/8 minutes) and there is a drop-off area (subject to available street parking) around 100-200 yards away near York Minster.

Fabulous stay at Stonegate

The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. Incredibly easy to book, I received confirmation straight way with all the details I needed, including instructions on parking. The apartment is right in the centre of York and has views over the Minster. It is exactly as described and as is immaculately clean. Despite being in the centre it is also very quiet which is a real bonus. Couldnā€™t recommend more highly and we will definitely be back and will absolutely book again with Stays York.

Delightful in every way!

Couldn't have asked for more - clean, comfortable, well-appointed flat in a wonderful location. All as advertised and did not disappoint. We visit York to spend time with family at least once per year and we'll certainly consider staying at Stonegate Retreat again!

Perfectly located comfortable, spacious and well equipped space in central York.

Lots of room, everything you might need is supplied. Beds were comfortable and bedrooms spacious. Lots of ambient lighting as well as bright lights for when they are neededā€¦ Bathrooms well appointed. We had a slight issue re basin plug, but it was a minor thing. Kitchen and living areas were bright and well furnished. We found the kitchen overhead cupboard doors difficult to open and heavy to hold- perhaps it was just usā€¦. Instructions for access and entry were clear, and we appreciated the details for refuse and recycling arrangements.

As a last minute change from original booking we were a bit dubious But when we got in we were very very impressed with it. Plenty of space,2 bathrooms and everything we needed.and right in town and close to minster etc. we will definitely be back and thank you to all the Stays booking team. A great job. 100%

Great location for a York Christmas Trip

Great place to stay, for three female school friends, in York. The location is near the Minster, Betty's Tearoom, Shambles...The clean apartment is equiped with everything you need for a short stay, especially the kitchen. It is set back from Stonegate and therefore quiet, except for the beautiful sound of the bells from the minster. We received a generous welcome pack with some lovely treats. The apartment is warm and the airing cupboard is great to dry wet coats.

Best location in York

Clean, quiet and very comfortable 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment, right in the middle of York, with views of York Minster. Roomy ensuite with shower and huge bathroom with bathtub. Definitely a home away from home, so we extendedour stay. Hosts provide a giftbox that included champers, choccies, biscuits, chips and small sample of tea and coffee which was very much appreciated. Only negative was only 1 coffee pod and one teabag provided which meant we ran out of coffee.

Lovely Apartment. Fantastic Location

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment . Couldnā€™t fault the cleanliness and decor, and had everything we needed. Only complaint was that the sofa bed in the lounge appeared to be broken the back legs didnā€™t pull out. We managed to improvise by just using the mattress on the floor, but obviously it isnā€™t checked regularly to make sure itā€™s still in working order. Only other little niggle was the liquid soap container in the en-suite was empty, obviously hadnā€™t been topped up. Would highly recommend this apartment though, location couldnā€™t be better, and would definitely stay again.

Very nice unit in a convenient location

Unit was quite nice and in a convenient location. Harder to find than it should have been, as Google routed us to the wrong location and we didnā€™t immediately spot the entrance. Sofas were not very comfortable and the dining chairs were a bit rickety and coming apart, however the beds were quite comfortable and the unit was well stocked with most things youā€™d need. We felt it was a good value at the rate we paid and would stay there again. Hopefully those furniture items I mentioned will be updated.

Ideal location for York City break

The apartment is in an ideal location for a city break in York. The apartment could do with some attention as it is getting a bit tired. For example wardrobe unusable in one bedroom as doors have come off runners, cooker hob switches position indicators have rubbed off and hob glass is in poor condition, sofas are uncomfortable. There was also a broken chair and fan in the airing cupboard. If these things could be sorted the apartment would be first rate!

Four nights in October

My wife and I have stayed many times in York, in a wide range of apartments. This is one of the best that we have stayed in. It's in a quite ugly modern development, one of about twenty apartments spread out in an area surrounded by the backs of ancient buildings. However, it's secure and (unlike many parts of the centre of York), it's quiet overnight at weekends. The apartment would work well for two couples sharing, each with their own facilities. A permit is provided for free parking in any of the Council's car parks, the nearest being seven or eight minutes walk away. We got a parking ticket due to an admin error, but Stays York sorted it out without fuss. We would definitely return here.

Revisiting Stonegate Retreat

I've returned from my seventh stay, yes seventh, in Stonegate Retreat. This apartment has been a staple on my Christmas shopping calendar since 2013. I've had experience of this apartment both as a private holiday rental and as a rental through Stays York. This apartment is incredibly well-appointed. It's a stone's throw from The Minster and St Helen's Square, from which you can shop until you drop along the high street and all of the little alleways and ginnels. The apartment offers great living space and a full kitchen, which allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds when it comes to eating: go out, or eat in! The bedrooms are comfortable, clean, and very well-presented. The common areas of the complex are quiet and well-maintained, and on the whole feels a very safe place to stay. My previous stays were booked privately through the previous owner, and exceptional customer service was what kept me returning. The little touches made it an incredibly special place to stay at Christmas. 2022 is the first stay that I have dealt with Stays York from start to finish. Whilst the pre-stay admin went largely without issue, I found myself missing the attention to detail during this stay. Upon arrival, after traveling for some hours, I had to turn around as soon as I had dropped off my bags to go and buy milk and coffee as there was nothing in the apartment. There was a coffee making machine on the kitchen worktop, but I couldn't find anything to use with it. My travel companion and I also had to share the non-slip bath mat as only one non-slip mat and one towelling mat had been provided for the main bathroom and the en suite. In addition, we didn't have any spare toilet roll, which seems a staple item to have available. The information booklet stated that hot water would be ample and constant for the stay, so the cold showers on the Sunday evening came as a bit of a shock. I tried to message the out of hours contact number, but I had no response from that ... not even the following day. I note in a previous review from Summer 2022 that the front door to the apartment needed a lot of force to be closed. We experienced this issue too, and we reported it to the agency. It seems that may be an ongoing niggle. All-in-all, I enjoyed my seventh stay at Stonegate Retreat, but I did think that the 45% increase on what I paid in 2021 was a bit of an inverse spend as some of the basic items I'd expect to be available for a quality holiday rental were not (milk, coffee, spare toilet roll, and enough bath mats for both bathrooms), and issues that appear to be recurring haven't been addressed (namely the sticking front door). I will likely return, as the apartment is perfectly located for my needs, but I do hope that Stays York reviews their attention to detail so that the apartment feels like the special place to stay that I believe it to be.
