Lovely setting

Lovely setting , easy access and comfortable. Swimming pool and facilities need a really good clean or refurb

Thank you for your review. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the setting, easy access and comfort of the property. We’re sorry you felt the pool facilities needed more attention. While we don’t feel the pool requires refurbishment, we will speak with our housekeeping team about putting some additional checks in place. This can be challenging during the summer when bookings are back-to-back and the pool is in constant use, but we will see what more we can do during our available maintenance periods. Lovely Cottage

We both really enjoyed staying here, great location and secluded. Our only downside was the cream carpet right outside the main door, being a stay with a dog was quite fiddly.

As this area has been recently refurbished, the carpet is relatively new, but we understand it may have been a little less practical when staying with a dog. We stayed here as it was walking distance to The Lap race and also amazing location by the lake. Such a great location to properly get away from it all and chill. Loved it

Had a lovely stay, great walks and so close to the water which is perfect for water loving dogs. Will definitely come back.

Back to mill cottage

In such a beautiful location this cottage is just perfect for a get away, you can join the rest of the world in bowness, lakeside etc or take the less trodden tracks and escape !! The house itself is very well equipped , the new shower is amazing, would love black out curtains for the front bedroom as the dawn chorus is loud and bright but maybe we shouldn’t waste the time while here! We’ll be back (again) next year x

Such a great house in a beautiful spot

This was more than we would normally spend on a week in the lakes but so worth it the cottage was so comfortable with everything you could need but the beauty of it was in 3 mins you could walk to the lakeside of Windermere you’re own little piece of tranquility - just such a treat

Back to Mill Cottage

Firstly a big shout this year to the housekeeping team who are amazing. Thank you! Also a thanks to Sarah. This is our second trip to Mill Cottage and it's a firm family favourite. We as a family really enjoy the estate, and are always on or by the water,or up a hill. The Merlin Bird App has also provided some entertainment this year with a book and some binos. Can recommend the boat trip to see the Osprey's from Esthwaite. A trip past Rawlinson Nab in the evening is one of our favourite things to do. It's a magical place. Noticeably, we saw more wildlife on the estate this year compared to our previous trip. A Roe Deer, Osprey's, rabbits and something swimming in the water that was maybe otter like! Morning sunrises and moonlight lakes make for some great photo opportunities.

A charming cottage, tucked away in a quiet off-the-road area and 2 minutes walk from the lake shore. Clean and comfortable throughout.

Another wonderful stay

We returned to Mill Cottage for fifth or sixth time to find a lovely new bathroom. A slight pity that the cottage no longer has a bath but with two grown up children, the shower was probably a better option. The view from the front door is spectacular and the short walk down to Windermere is perfect for the dog. The cottage is not massive but is clean and comfortable. There’s plenty of hot water and although we didn’t need the heating this time we know that the radiators are efficient and heat the house in minutes. The location next to to an abandoned saw mill (well protected from curious children) is picturesque and attracts a range of wildlife: over the years we’ve seen owls , buzzards, red deer, weasels, dippers and even a kingfisher. The east side of the lake is quiet even in the summer months and the cottage is walkable from the centre of Bowness if you use the ferry. Tip: apply in advance for a book of 20 ferry vouchers from the council offices in Kendal; it works out much cheaper.

Enjoyable escape

Whilst perhaps lacking the wow factor when we arrived, the house served our purposes really well and we enjoyed our stay very much. Warm, decent kitchen, near the lake, great base for exploring. And we were allowed bring our 3 dogs who loved their stay! Great base for GraythWaite adventures.

Amazing Location

We have stayed in many holiday homes in the UK and this one is a favourite. The location is fantastic. Just a few minutes walk from the Lake itself where on sunny days you can watch the boats go by all day. The location is remote, which took a while to get used to. We had excellent customer service from Sarah & Paul.

Wonderful cosy cottage

Loved our stay at Mill cottage. The cottage is tucked away down a private road with the river running through the garden and the lake a few hundred yards away. There are lovely, if muddy, walks from the doorstep which is just what we needed. The cottage has everything you will need and the view from the main bedroom is beautiful.

A wonderful stay, made even more fabulous from the access to the Lake below the house, so hours spent on the kayak and the children exploring their own Island!….and a truly memorable walk up to Old Man Coniston !!

Beautiful setting

Beautiful setting just a short walk from the shores of Windermere. First visit this year to another of Graythwaite’s charming property’s. A well equipped comfortable cottage highly recommended for walking round the local area. If you’re lucky enough to be there when the pop-up camp site is open, which is just a short walk along the lake, you definitely need to pop along and join the friendly staff around the fire pits for toasted marshmallows and a drink from the converted horse box.

Autumn Stay

We had a lovely stay at Mill Cottage. A couple of things that could be improved, little things like the hand wash, fairy liquid etc all ran out during our stay, so we had to buy extra, these could be full at the start of the week so you don’t run out. There were also quite a lot of cars doing work/visiting the barns whilst we were there which wasn’t ideal with a dog and a toddler. Overall though it is a lovely cottage in a great location and perfect for visiting places in the surrounding areas ☺️

Spacious cottage right on the Lake

Well located (for the Lake) and very spacious cottage with powerful heating and shower. Excellent for wild swimming and SUP. Which we needed during a very wet August week and storm which did take down a power line leading to a six hour power cut. With seven blown lights, a dead TV remote, mould in the washing machine, the odd cobweb and a few other things the property could have been a bit better prepared but maintenance fixed most of these. We found the beds pretty hard.

Mill Cottage

There was no provision for the replacement/change of bedding and towels. Not sure who was responsible for this but a 12 night stay in the same bedding and use of the same towels is not acceptable. I would recommend the property but with a warning to establish arrangements for above.

Very peaceful stay in a beautiful setting

The Mill Cottage and surrounding property is absolutely beautiful. Truly like living in a fairly tale. The cottage was just as described, but the photos just can’t do it justice. On our first day the ferry was closed which which was a real inconvenience for our plans to visit Windermere and Bowness. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise since we were able to explore the Graythwaite property and the quaint town of Hawkshead. If you enjoy walking as much as we do you will love this area. We also rented e-bikes which I highly recommend to tour this side of the lake. Do NOT venture into Windermere, Bowness, or Ambleside on a bike. Those are not bike or pedestrian friendly places. Look both ways before sprinting across the roads.
