Please read content thoroughly to learn about Waterside Cottage, one of the most favored vacation homes in Hiawassee. For affordability, comfort and location it doesn't get much better.
Waterside Cottage is your next perfect vacation getaway. Not a cabin, not a castle...a lakeside cottage, light and clean with all the comforts of home.
Lovely views of the mountains and the lake. Close to town, quaint shops, restaurants and vineyards, Waterside Cottage is the perfect retreat for small families, seniors, and couples. Sorry, we do not accept requests from parties or groups. Surrounded by the lake and mountains, the home faces Lake Chatuge, known for it's clean waters. Lake Chatuge is perfect for swimming, boating, fishing and water sports. The town of Hiawassee, with its lake and mountain views is often referred to as "The Enchanted Valley."
Close to hiking trails, waterfalls, parks, marinas, boat rentals, antique malls, boutiques, golf, and fine and casual dining, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Within walking distance to the town of Hiawassee, in a lakeside neighborhood with no steep mountain roads, Waterside Cottage is located on a paved road with gentle terrain. It is not remote and there are neighbors close by. It is approximately one mile to HWY 76, a main road that takes you to the entire surrounding area. Nearby towns include Clayton, Helen, Blue Ridge, Hayesville, and Franklin and are all about a 30 minute drive. Take a trip over the great smoky mountains and visit Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville or Chattanooga, all about a 2 1/2 hour drive away.
THERE IS NOT A BOAT DOCK ASSOCIATED WITH WATERSIDE COTTAGE, however, there are boat launches nearby and space on the property to park a boat if desired. There are marinas to rent boats nearby as well.
Waterside Cottage offers the use of the "boat shed," which contains 4 kayaks, a paddleboat and bikes for an additional fee.
There is a preserve area out the front gate and across the quiet road for access to the lake. The water front is a gradual slope where you can wade out or stay close to shore. The front porch or lakefront is the perfect place to watch the the boats go by, enjoy a good book or relax in the sun.
There are marinas nearby to rent boats, or bring your own.
Watch the sunset over the lake and roast marshmallows around the firepit while the kids catch fireflies. Enjoy the picturesque views from the front porch and balcony or take a relaxing dip in hot tub.
Walk or bike to the town of Hiawassee (or take the 3 min drive), where you will find fine restaurants and fast food, upscale shops and old fashioned general stores. There is 'Music on the Square' every Saturday summer night, and a farmers market to buy local produce and crafts.
Just a 5 minute drive away are the Georgia Mountain fairgrounds and Music Hall where there are festivals and concerts all year long.
You can catch a movie, play golf or visit the spa at Brasstown Valley Resort.
Visit the nearby towns. Blue Ridge where you can ride the train though the mountains, or the Bavarian town of Helen where you can tube down the river or enjoy the longest Oktoberfest in the US. You can also take a zip-line in Sautee, or Blairsville. Visit Brasstown Bald, Georgia's highest mountain where the views will take your breath away. Hike the Appalachian trail - there is an entrance just a few miles away.
