First things first: Maui is a tropical paradise; almost anywhere you stay on-island, you will know that truth. However, staying in a direct ocean front condo can elevate your vacation experience to the caliber of “once-in-a-lifetime” status. The Kuleana Resort offers this opportunity.
Located on Maui’s west side, the Kuleana Resort is a low rise resort with seven 2 & 3 story buildings that were designed so none were taller than a palm tree. It is also considered low density, with only 118 condos, most of which are 1 bedroom. Thus, Kuleana has a tranquil beauty that lends it a “Boutique Resort” ambience. It is perfect for those not looking for the Great & Grande Resort vibe, yet who want to be close to where all the action is. From here it is: 10 minutes to Lahaina where you can shop till you drop, wine & dine in casual or fine dining eateries, or go to the harbor where you’ve booked a fishing expedition or a sunset sail, or any of a number of ocean activities; 5 minutes to Ka'anapali Beach and 8 minutes to beautiful Kapalua. Golfers will be thrilled that Kuleana is within 5 miles of 4 world-class golf courses, including The Plantation Course in Kapalua, home of the PGA Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
The Kuleana is situated on the coast of the 9.5-mile wide Au’Au Channel, the most protected & shallow one in the Hawaiian Islands at only 252 ft. deep. It is ideal for the Humpback Whales that migrate from Alaska each winter to birth, raise their calves, and mate. This means from December thru March, you’ll have a front row seat to watch whales—tons of them, putting on a show for free! It is a magnificent, memory-making experience. And of course, all the rest of the year you will enjoy tropical sunsets, watching Hawaiian Green Turtles bob in the surf while feeding on the reef, and savor the silvery moonlight shining on the sea.
The Kuleana fronts 2 beaches that can fluctuate in size according to ocean currents and tides, but are always lovely. One of them is considered a “pocket beach” and has a secret, private feel to it. There is a sea ladder where you can also enter the water to snorkel—you’ll probably encounter the turtles, who make their home here.
Our acres of meticulously manicured landscaping, gardens full of beautiful plants & exotic flowers, and winding paths with benches positioned to take it all in, create a tropical setting second to none.
Additional amenities on property include a large heated pool with plenty of lounge chairs, a tennis court (8AM – sunset, 1st come/1st served, bring your own rackets & balls), a shuffleboard court, an on-site Activities Desk, and a ping pong table & lending library of books & games in the lobby.
And finally, at the ocean’s edge, we have 4 super shiny-clean gas BBQs that seem to bring out the chef in everyone. Each evening, tiki torches are lit along this shoreline, making it a special sunset-watching, social gathering spot. It is truly a treat to meet fellow grillers & “talk story,” as the locals call it (chat with folks, share your adventures), before heading back to your private lanai to partake of your personal culinary creation. We also offer on-site coin-op laundries, and complimentary WiFi & one space of permitted parking.
Add it up: Direct Ocean Front Resort in a beautiful, tranquil setting with ocean and outer island views, convenient location for west side Maui adventures, AND affordability. The Kuleana is truly a hidden gem. Book it now!
By the way, the word kuleana reflects a uniquely Hawaiian value that translates to mean responsibility. For example, Hawaiians have kuleana to the land, to respect & care for it; in return, the land has the kuleana to feed, shelter, & clothe us. This relationship creates balance within our society & our natural environment. We hope you experience kuleana during your stay at The Kuleana.
