Stone Barn is a stylish, architect-designed barn conversion sleeping six, set in a quiet conservation area of Minehead’s old town. Thoughtfully restored and beautifully presented, it offers a calm, comfortable base for families, couples or friends looking to explore Exmoor and the Somerset coast while enjoying a high standard of accommodation.

The barn combines contemporary design with original character, creating light-filled, welcoming spaces that feel immediately relaxing. The main living area is open-plan and located on the first floor, making the most of the barn’s height and proportions. Here you’ll find a comfortable seating area, dining space and a well-equipped kitchen — ideal for cooking, chatting and unwinding together after a day out. An electric real-flame fire adds warmth and atmosphere during cooler months.

Stone Barn sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms. Two bedrooms are located on the ground floor, both with en-suite shower rooms. One is a king-size double, while the other can be configured as either a super-king or twin on request, offering flexibility for families or groups of friends. The third bedroom is upstairs, with its own adjacent bathroom. All beds feature high-quality mattresses, crisp linens and plenty of storage, ensuring a comfortable stay for everyone.

Outside, the enclosed private garden provides a peaceful space to relax, dine or enjoy a soak in the hot tub. Guests particularly enjoy using the hot tub in the evenings, with views towards the church and dark skies on clear nights.

Stone Barn is the result of many years’ experience restoring and caring for historic properties in Exmoor. With a background in history, a long-standing passion for property and interiors, and a deep love of this part of Somerset, creating places that feel both beautiful and genuinely comfortable has become something of a calling.

After restoring my first cottage in Dunster in 2008, what began as a weekend project gradually grew into Exmoor Character Cottages — a small collection of four thoughtfully restored holiday homes, each with its own personality and sense of place. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming guests from across the UK and beyond, many of whom return time and again.

Stone Barn was purchased in 2015 as a near-derelict building and has since been completely transformed. Working with a talented architect and skilled local craftspeople, it was carefully redesigned and rebuilt to create a space that works beautifully as holiday accommodation, while still respecting the character of the original structure. Every detail — from the layout and light to the choice of materials and furnishings — was considered with guest comfort in mind.

Unlike many holiday properties, Stone Barn was designed specifically for people to relax in, rather than adapted as an afterthought. Guests often comment that this is something they can feel as soon as they arrive. Sharing these properties with guests, and helping them enjoy everything Exmoor has to offer, continues to be a genuine pleasure.

At the time, the barn was largely unused and in need of careful thought, but its potential was immediately clear. Having already restored and run holiday properties in the area, the aim was to create something that genuinely worked as high-quality self-catering accommodation rather than a quick or cosmetic conversion. Stone Barn was therefore designed from the outset with guests in mind — focusing on light, layout, comfort and privacy.

Working with an architect and trusted local tradespeople, the barn was transformed into a calm, contemporary space that complements the character of the surrounding buildings while offering modern comfort and practicality. The result is a property that feels considered and easy to stay in, with a layout that suits couples, families and friends equally well.

Stone Barn has since become a firm favourite with guests, many of whom comment on how well the space works and how relaxed they feel from the moment they arrive — exactly the intention when it was first created.
