Relaxing home base in Hilo
This property was a like an oasis for us while we had work done on our home. I recommend it for visitors as well.
The living room area is comfortable to lounge in. The kitchen is easy to use and is well equipped with tools, pots and pans and pretty much everything you need - though it is so much it may take a little time to find exactly what you need. In general the house is well equipped.
There’s a pleasant covered patio in the back where we spent time playing board games and enjoying the restful garden. We enjoyed oranges from the tree in the yard. Laundry machines are nearby in a covered area so you can relax outdoors while doing laundry.
There are 3 bedrooms. We only used the master bedroom which was quite comfortable. It had lots of closet space. One thing I especially liked was that there were 2 luggage racks in the room.
It was a very roomy home for 2, and I think it would be quite comfortable for a larger group.
The house is near a couple of beautiful tourist sites: rainbow falls and the boiling pot rapids. It’s also a good location for a quick drive to downtown restaurants. Also if you’re in Hilo, be sure to drive out to Hawaii Tropical botanical gardens. It’s one of the most beautiful spots on the island.
Quiet, peaceful neighborhood. Wonderful home!
Our family had an awesome time on the Island and this home was a big part of it. It was clean, comfortable and very well stocked with items you may need while staying here. The is no A/C, but the breezes kept us cool. The orange tree in back was great to have for breakfast. The owner checked in with us several times, to ensure we didn’t have any issues. I would definitely stay here again! Mahalo nui loa Ceri!
Mahalo for the kind words, Greg. I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed the Big Island and that my home was a part of that wonderful experience!
Be aware - take pictures of everything when you check in
This is a nice spacious house in a quiet neighborhood. After a three week stay I would have loved to give it a 5-star review but it didn't end well. After I checked out I was contacted by the owner with pictures showing scratches to the hardwood floor and I was told I caused the damage. One of the areas with the scratches was covered by furniture and a decorative large basket. We neither moved the furniture nor the basket. I basically only used the house to sleep (it was a business trip). I am 100% sure I didn't cause the damage. Because the most damaged area was covered by furniture and the house is fairly dark, the owner didn't believe me that I didn't see the scratches when I stayed there. Since the floors had a number of buffs and stains I didn't think to check for existing damage or take pictures of everything during my stay. Big mistake. The owner kept insisting I am at fault and filed a claim with the renters insurance we took out through VRBO. If I wouldn't know any better, I'd say the owner just jumped on the opportunity to have the insurance pay for her floors to be redone. Apparently there is no recourse when you get accused of causing damage and you can't prove you are not at fault. So my advice - take pictures of everything when you check in and report everything that doesn't look 'perfect'.
My cleaner does a walk-thru of the house before cleaning and saw the marks on the hard wood floors right away. I was at the house just before these guests checked in to replenish the supplies. I would have noticed the scratches. It looked like someone dragged something heavy across the livingroom from the patio door. These guests were there to work; it wasn't a vacation. The company paid for the rental so maybe they don't want to admit to any wrong doing. But it is a fact that those scratches were not there before their arrival.
Perfect `Ohana Vacation Hale!
Aloha e! My `ohana LOVED our week stay at this beautiful hale reminiscent of old Hawai`i. Roomy and spacious, this home exceeded its online description. My sons had their own room for privacy and a spacious living area with several seating options (couch, dining table, bar stool island). The patio seating offered us family meals outside in the cool air while smelling the fragrance of the citrus trees. The kitchen is well stocked and bath, cleaning amenities available were appreciated. We definitely will be back to Hilo and will look to book another week stay at Island Oasis!
Mahalo for the beautiful review! I'm so happy that your family enjoyed our home...please come back!
Our need was as a work base, not tourist activity; nonetheless, the house was great and all that it claimed to be.
I grew up in this quaint town of Hilo and am fortunate to call Hawaii my home! I have lived in California, New York and Washington DC, but I currently live in Kona. I enjoy time with my children, love the ocean, yoga and Kona coffee. Life is just too short not too live, love and laugh every day.....With Aloha, Ceri
Why Owner chose Hilo
Cool, Quiet and Comfortable. It has recently been renovated.
What makes this House unique
Our house is in a great neighborhood and it was built in the 1960's so the rooms are very spacious. Excellent location to visit all of the Big Island. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about an hour away. Kona, on the west side, is about a 1.5 hour drive via Saddle Rd. The lush Hamakua coast with Akaka Falls is within 45 minutes. And the Kohala Coast with beautiful white sandy beaches and resorts, Pololu Valley and Waimea town, is a scenic drive from Hilo.
